Should be mandatory to lose all credentials, never be in law enforcement anywhere once found guilty of a crime. Anything over a speeding ticket, no pension no retirement, no benefits no protection. 3x the normal sentence for any law enforcement.

I think a National Registry got terminated cops should be in place. But a lot of times the Dept will give the officer the opportunity to quit instead so that it won’t hurt them enough not to get another job with another department. What we don’t need are recycled cops that should not be cops to begin with.

Why isn't he put in jail for impeading an investigation ?

This is New Mexico, he will possibly lose his job with the NMSP but will be able to join another law enforcement agency in the state. New Mexico is notorious for firing an officer for conduct unbecoming yet individuals get hired again as law enforcement somewhere else. Once fired from the state, for any reason, an individual should not be able to obtain a position as a state employee ever again, period.

The police backgrounds must be great in New Mexico. I know so many dudes like this that are cops, and nice dudes with a good heart don't even get hired.
