The first episode of Steam Input Essentials goes over the basics of Steam Input. How to get Steam to see your input device, how to navigate the core menus, and how to add simple bindings to your config. Additionally, it demonstrates how to access community configs for those who would rather not make their own. (Steam Controller, Dualshock, Xbox, Switch)

I'm glad to hear that it works with Last Remnant. I bought it during the "last chance" sale but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Good videos. There's a scarcity of good information on steam input on the web. I'm using a direct input controller, a logitech rumblepad 2, and steam input works great to make the controller work well with most games where the controller doesn't work (in windows, and even in linux). However, for some reason rumble never works when steam input is enable. I can't even find the proper forum to post about the issue. There's generic steam forums, and a steam controller forum, but no forum that I can find specifically for steam input.

Unfortunately that's the case with Steam Input. It was originally just for Steam Controller so Valve just used the SC Discussions. When they officially branded the software as Steam Input and opened it up to other controllers they just directed people to the Steam Controller discussion instead of making a true Discussions page for it. I made a subreddit for Steam Input (r/SteamInput) but it never really took off and /r/SteamController is still the best place for all Steam Input issues. As for your rumble issue, make sure that the game's rumble setting is enabled and that rumble is enabled in Steam Input. You have a global setting in your controller's preferences (in Controller Settings) and then you have a per game setting which is only accessible in BPM. I've never used DirectInput controllers though so I'll do some testing tonight and see if I can get my Logitech F710 to rumble in DirectInput mode through Steam Input. I'll reply back with my findings.

Apologies for the late reply. I finally tested this out and ran into the same issue as you. On my Logitech G710 I had rumble when using it in the XInput setting but not in the DirectInput setting. I wonder if this is jut an issue with the way that Logitech handles DirectInput with their controllers or if this is an issue with all DirectInput devices -- which doesn't really make sense since one of the controller preferences for DirectInput devices is a global Rumble setting. I'll ask around the Discord, Steam Discussions, and Reddit and see if other users are experiencing the same thing.

HI... best regards from Spain. Thx for your tutorials mate!!!. One question it´s posible bind a combo of game pad buttons, to be activated with another one or paddles in Elite series 2 gamepad? Yes, but it was difficult to work with and there's a hard limit to how long of a combo you can do. You have to use a series of Activators where each has a little higher "Fire Start Delay". Unfortunately I don't do this kinda stuff anymore and haven't kept up with the UI changes in the new Big Picture update. Best of luck.

ps4 controller could also be used with bluetooth and it handles the same on steam as with a wire, the only real need for the ps4 dongle is to use playstation now wireless, otherwise it is pretty useless and can't even be found in the united states, only Europe i believe.

Interesting. If I get around to update this video I'll have to include this new information. Though a quick search shows that you do need the official receiver if you want to do audio passthrough over wireless.

Yes. You do need the official receiver for audio passthrough. That's really the one main advantage of that receiver and the big downside is that it only supports one controller at a time. I use a bluetooth 4.0 receiver for mine and it supports up to 4 controllers perfectly.

@@Moskeeto That controller limitation is huge! I need to update this video to include the Switch Pro, Dualshock 3, and Touch Controllers so I'll definitely add this info when I get around to revamping this.

Yeah the only other way to use the audio jack is with the wire, but also i think it needs to be a version 2 controller, the ones with the light bar on the touchpad and grey buttons, I haven't tried the official dongle with the version 1 controller but if you just use a wire the version 1 controller doesn't support the headphone jack. And when i say support i mean like let you use it as a mic and audio throughput.

What about xbox controllers like the razer one with 6 extra buttons should i register them as xbox controller or direct imput?

I could be totally wrong here but I don't think the 6 extra buttons will be usable in either, at least not as independent buttons. If you find out that they aren't usable then I'd suggest looking into reWASD as they usually support the full features of controllers like that. I use a controller with 11 extra buttons and 1 extra joystick and all of it is supported.

hi do you know if i can connect both ps4 and ps5 controllers to steam and play a game together? my ps4 controller keeps getting disconnected

As far as I know you should be able to connect those two controllers and play multiplayer games without issue.

And they have also added Nintendo Switch Pro controller support in steam controller configuration..

Yup. Made this before the Switch Pro was supported but I've included the Switch Pro in all videos after it was added.

Why does my controler work on my desktop and not In game. Set it up worked great u till it changed while in vr. Can’t even go through the welcome tourural without a right click bc the controler is doing that out of game on the desktop now.
