Hi Chris, not sure if you noticed the lose screw on the top of the gold rotor right under the Steinhart logo, I'd be careful with it. not to muck up the movement before you open it. you can actually see where it belongs, If you look right on the top of the left side of the roto, you can see the screw hole.

I bought this watch on its release and although I’ve gone off the idea of homage watches, I have to say that this is a very high quality piece for the price. Dimensions are really nice, very comfortable, COSC accuracy, beautifully finished, lumed bezel has great feel. I’m often disappointed by other higher priced watches when comparing them to this. Steinhart makes solid watches. Great review!

I think Chronometer grade is above top grade is above elabore grade on ETA.
@1SaG
@1SaG 2 жыл бұрын
Elaboré is actually the lowest grade of the SW330/ETA 2893, since there's no Standard grade on these. There are two grades above available (from ETA or Selitta, not from Steinhart), "Top" and "Chronometer" (or COSC?). Although I wouldn't see the point of a COSC movement for my SW330 equipped example. It (like all my Steinharts) is pretty well regulated and has been running within COSC parameters for 1.5 years now. The "Premium" moniker refers to the decoration on the movement I believe (perlage, blued screws, etc). Plus the fact that this version of the O1 has that chamfered edge on the lugs and a see-through caseback, both features that the more basic O1s don't have. This particular watch has an ETA movement... you can see the ETA maker's mark near the balance-wheel in the macro shots, plus the shape of the rotor and its bearing are dead giveaways. Just ignore that loose screw sitting on top of the rotor... ;)

I have owned this watch with the ETA 2893-2 for 2 years now. I have been roasted in the comments on other channels for having the temerity to wear this “homage” watch. If it looks like any Rolex it looks like the GMT Master ll. I do not think there was ever a Rolex GMT (1 or 2) without a cyclops. It is an awesome watch with great quality. Terrific review Chris. Nice watch, really would buy one if they made a bigger version. To me it looks small'ish on your 7,5 wrist. Unfortunately I have a 8+ inch wrist. I tried the 39mm ocean one green. Just too small for me. Hoped this one would wear bigger...wishfull thinking😂. Had a couple of gmt's 42mm which were nice but sold them. Don't know why. Maybe because I didn't like the modern font on the bezel. Had the Tudor Gmt, size perfect, looks perfect, but the date complication was giving me a hard time, sold it. Now looking for that vintage look. Awell...can't have all. Either way, thanks for sharing!

I’ve had mine for almost a year. I have a very modest collection but this is my favorite watch (right now 😑). I see a very few watches with Desk GMT at this price. Squale makes a nice watch with the ETA 2893-2 movement but I don’t think QC is as good as Steinhart and they cost about $100.00 USD more. I usually see this movement in watches in the $1500.00 to $2000.00 USD range. I REALLY wanted the ETA & not the Sellita SW 330 as the forums continue to favor the quality of the ETA over what some watch makers report as poor heat treating in the Sellita movements. The ETA Makers Mark is on the edge (get your lupe out) just North of the balance wheel and in the vicinity of “2893-2”. Finally, I have heard the criticism that the GMT hand does not line up at the top of the hour. I have not had that reported problem in mine. Line up is great!

Not the 1675. It actually homages the the first 1954 - 1959 non-crown guard GMT 6542 with the bakelite illuminated insert. I also consider the Tudor BB GMT to be a homage to the 6542 although Steinhart's rendering at 39mm is a bit more faithful rendition believe it or not. Tudor really needs to make one in the thinner 39mm case because their current fat 41mm case is a huge turn off. The person who buys this watch is really looking to get a vintage era GMT and Steinhart nailed it IMO.

@@WatchChris not to belabor this point but the Steinhart Ocean 39 vintage GMT premium BLUE-RED Ceramic which is the watch we speaking of comes with either ETA 2893-2 Top - with Glucydur balance or the Sellita SW330 Top. A bit of a correction: on the GMT master, at least the ones of this vintage, certainly the ones up until well beyond the year 2000, the GMT hand is not adjustable. i.e. it's just a 24 hour hand, linked to the hour hand. If the hour hand says 12, the GMT hand either says 12 or 24, nothing else. You get time zones by adjusting the bezel. This is in contrast to the GMT master II which came a lot later.

@@xpusostomos Ha, along with the comment above that one GMT Master II that was not even keeping time as accurately as a Steinhart (this one needed regulation, obviously), this tells me that Rolex is coasting on innovations in accuracy and features that have long since been duplicated and even exceeded by a host of other manufacturers. Only Rolex groupies are still buying the markey pitch that Rolexes are leaps and bounds better than other watches on the market. Look at "Oystersteel" for example, which is simple 904 vs 316 stainless. Steinhart makes an Ocean One in 904 steel and it doesn't cost tens of thousands. Bravo to Gunter Steinhart for shaking the tree!

@@seayak Rolex were never that great. Even well past the year 2000 the bracelets were stamped end links and clasps. The movements were solid, reliable and kept good time, but with age they go astray like any movement. But they weren't that special. Which was ok when they were like $US3000 and easy to get, but now not so much. I have a Steinhart ocean 1, it's definitely better than its Rolex cousin from the 70s. From the year 2000.. toss up. At least it has solid end links.

@@xpusostomos Spot on!. It is, nice that we can benefit from your experience with older Rolex watches. My local watchmaker loves Rolex movements, but the he also loves the gold ones he owns, and is very proud of being able to afford them. Personally my watches are useful tools and prized possessions, but will never be symbols of status or personal achievement. My father, who was an engineer, had a Rolex Oyster Perpetual that he wore through WWII as an artillery officer, purchased back in that time when they were affordable for normal persons. In the 60's he traded it for a Bulova Accutron that kept better time. He said something at the time which turned out to be prescient. "Eventually", he said " you will be able to buy a watch that tells better time than this Rolex, for less than it costs me to have the thing serviced every couple of years".

I keep the watches in these boxes, and they are of very good quality. By contrast a Tissot diver that cost more than some of my Steinharts came in a rather flimsy cardboard box with graphics that invoke the arcitechture of the Tissot factory. Whoop de doo. Cardboard is always only cardboard, however you try to dress is up as anything else.
