Wow, thanks for telling me that, I’ve been trying to work on it, I’ve got an app to adjust the levels now, (the bass, treble, compression..etc) it’ll start sounding stronger now in a lot of the videos

Is there a way to get the front brim of the Whippet to do a deep swoop but still have the ability to wear it brim up? 🤔

Yes. Sure simple steam up.. u can try pulling slightly in the direction u want, while it's snapped down. Don't make lots of moves, do one or two carefully placed bends, and it'll still flip up. Keep it stored off it's brim always,

Bryan L yes, they are rainproof, totally, but they can lose their shape if u don’t dry them properly, keep away from heat, flip the brim up and set the hat upside down, it’ll be fine. I’d say they aren’t meant for huge downpours, but if u get caught in a rain, it’ll be fine.

Would you recommend a tear drop or Center Pinch crease on a Stetson Chapman Handmade? I wanted to ask your opinion. It’s 4” crown and 2 3/8” brim. Royal quality fur felt.

Hats in the Belfry? If you want me opinion,leave it alone, definitely do not try to steam a teardrop into it. I think you’ll regret it. Keep it fresh and new,and stock.. give the pinches a little squeeze if you like the tighter pinch, but I’d recommend highly against trying to modify it with a teardrop. The crown is not really deep enough or wide enough to take a good looking teardrop, it’ll look modified, and just not right. The hat is nice and new,anything you try to do like that is going to make it look unlike a new hat. Keep it fresh and give it a little finesse with your hands ..if you want to tighten the pinch up a little , that’ll give it a more classical,nostalgic sort of feel But nah..yeah nah..nahh.. leave her alone. Some Stetson felts don’t respond well to lots of steam, big modifications like that.. It’ll just detract from its new-ness, and make it less stylish,for sure.

Yeah I went with the Belfry exclusive Caribou fur felt with the contrasting grosgrain. I'm normally a tear drop fan, but I have to agree about the center crease looking good. I'm not much for feathers, so I'll probably remove it. Thanks for the advice Kevin!

Ive been looking at the Asher and Inwood online, are they much different? I like the crown and brim size of the Mercury best but not the color/band. I reshaped a Dobbs Jet into teardrop and it made the band look too big.

Hi Kevin, I’ve heard you speaking of Borsalino’s and how you’re waiting for the quality to improve and how they are currently charging too much for a decent beaver etc. So, I’ve been looking at their Bogart (cut 1) and would like to know if you have seen one and if so, what your impression was. Thank you. Love to stop by sometime and see the shop. Pandemic be gone!

I don’t like the quality.. but that’s one mans opinion.. I’ve seen it, steamed a few.. I say nope. I don’t like the thin felt, it used to work well for the,,now it doesn’t.

WARNING!! These hats are addicting. My 2nd hat is on the way from JJ’s and I’ll probably order a 3rd before the sale ends. Happy I found Kevin’s channel (I think lol). Seriously you should get a raise or a bonus. I’m sure your vids have helped sell a lot more hats especially for us inter web shoppers that’s 1200 miles away from NYC.

How would you rate the felt quality and thickness of the contemporary Whippet??

these are fairly lightweight felts and not in any way rugged or meant for rain or snow… that said, they’re also probably the coolest brand around and they are 100% rabbit fur felt like all the other competitors,but the felt is fairly lightweight and thinner, not thick and dense.

These videos can get addicting. You should be paid extra, I’m sure you’re pulling in a lot of business for JJ. Question, Certain hats look irresistibly attractive on the shelf but very different on my head as viewed in the mirror, any thoughts on why that is? Shelf look vs head-mirror look? The Whippet, for example, looks low and square on the shelf, but high and rounded on my head, as viewed in the mirror. If it helps to know, my height is 5’ 4.” But that may have nothing to do with it.

Edward Aljian the whippet is a very low crowned hat, it could be a couple of things, one..you’re not used to it, every hat looks too high in the crown when u just aren’t used to them, new hat wearers get this like crazy, then it goes away, usually after ten or fifteen minutes in the mirror and talking to me, they acclimate and start to feel better about th crown, it could be that.. or, it could be a fit issue, u say you’re not that tall, so more than likely your head isn’t high or tall on top, but it could still be a fit issue too, either the hat is too shallow for u,and it’s sitting too high, or it’s tight and sitting high.. I’d guess you’re not used to it,are u a new hat wearer? Give it time to sink in, I can lower that crown significantly if u want..for free too

KEVIN from JJ HAT CENTER 🎸HATS & GUITARS ! Kevin, thanks for replying. Well, I’m not a new hat wearer, just obsessive about hat details, as I suppose a lot of hat guys are. But I WOULD like to take you up on the offer to have a couple of floppy hats reshaped-how can I do that? Send them to JJ, c/o Kevin, with a note? Or is there another way? I wish I could just come in, I did once and you did a great job on my hat, but I can’t get to Manhattan often, it would have to be by mail, I’d pay shipping of course and I’m amazed you would do the work for free. That hat already exists, the Stratoliner Premier has the high, boxy, Bogart crown, just have us shoe it in a nostalgic teardrop for u, that’s the hat.
