I used to work for a moderately-sized conservative website. Nowhere near the size of The Daily Wire or Crowder, but we were in the mix. I saw so much crap behind the scenes and saw how little these conservative media companies ultimately do not walk the walk. You think that they’re on your side and your voice is getting heard? No. You are just a click and a view to them. All of the tactics that we complain that the leftist mainstream media does? These conservative sites do the same thing. They know they have a loyal fanbase and they will exploit their audience and their talent for all its worth. I was never presented with a contract like what Crowder is talking about, but I heard of people who were. Instead, I was lucky enough to get laid off when Facebook and Twitter were blocking news sites after Trump was elected. The numbers fell and the ad revenue dried up. I was pissed at the time, but I now know it was a blessing in disguise. I’m in a much better job now and I am far from that field.

I think Barnes was right: Daily Wire _never wanted_ Crowder. They would only accept him if he severely neutered his content.

I was never a big consumer of DW b/c they never struck me as truly being conservative, rather a media company that catered to conservatives...like Fox News.

How is it that so many people disregard the fact that DW outed THEMSELVES! In the initial video, Crowder never said it was about him, never said it was insulting (it was), didn't tell anyone to offer him a better deal, and didn't ask for new subscribers to mugclub. He showed future creators what a predatory contract looks like, and advised them to protect themselves by having competent legal counsel. He didn't even go so far as to say "don't ever work with these companies", just don't get f*cked by them. His plea to ALL conservative companies was to figure out a business model that aligns with the ideals that you are selling. Most paying subscribers are taking conservative media companies at their word; when you give us money, your supporting an entity that has the power and resources to fight on your behalf. Crowder's ask was not radical or unreasonable: don't screw over the talent and customers that make conservative media and its success possible.

This channel is one of the best finds out of this whole fiasco. 🙌👍

You don't offer those kinds of terms to a friend, or even someone you respect.

Steven asked for $120 million over 4 years, for him, his expenses, and his team of 25+. If mug club is 350,000 people paying 69 or 99 annually, that makes Crowder worth between 24 and 34 million annually. let's round to 30 mil. The contract was for 4 years. 30milx4=120mil. His request was reasonable based on subscription revenue alone. DW offered him 50 (so I guess they keep the other 120-50=70) and wanted all those strings and to take all his social media and own all the revenue from everything else, including merch, and add so many adverts that if would fundamentally change the show, and make him do monthly crap that DW members get. That 50mil DW offered him, was for 768 shows, or 64k per episode, and DW would dock him 100k for each one he misses. Terrible contract.

The part that really got me on Timcast IRL was when he said about DW trying to poach Crowders PR accounts guy, after he told them, he's got a guy and wants to keep him, thats scumbaggory.

I literally had a company want us to sign a contract that any code we wrote was owned by them. Not during company time or on our own machines, ALL of IT. They literally sent a lawyer to talk to me to say that was not what it meant. I merely said, fine, change the language and I will sign that you own anything I write on company time and on company equipment. You're not going to own me off company time and company resources.

I've gone back and forth on this. I think I'm settled on Steven's side now. As an artist who's had to deal with shitty "form" contracts I find it insulting when I am asked to give my work away in perpetuity.

First rule of business is you are never paid what you are worth... but I'm not familiar of places that will tolerate a request for double the original offer. So why should anyone tolerate being offered half of what they could negotiate up to? I could go on, but this comment is already long.

The money in the term sheet was not Crowder's pay, it was his budget for his content. The penalties in that term sheet apparently added up to more than 100% of his budget. Those penalties seemed way to harsh and one sided in my opinion.

When Occupy Wallstreet was a thing, many of the things they were protesting I actually agreed with them, although I also disagreed on how to solve it. But we did have things in common. This issue isn’t confined to left or right, both of which get dinged on a regular basis by YT. I see it happening all over the platform no matter the topic. Creators of all ilk are getting strikes on videos they uploaded years ago, random topics suddenly posing a problem, certain words becoming illegal & God knows what else. I think it’s a great time to find new platforms that allow free thinking/speech, but it’s also past time to stand up to the platforms getting rich off of their ads while demonetizing the creators who make those ads possible.

You know, I've been anti-both TDW and Crowder, but the more that comes to light I'm definitely anti-TDW all the way. I still question Crowder's motives when so many things are in play but I also salute him for revealing TDW's true face. And the sad thing is they could have kept it hidden. Nobody has answered the question for me: how can parties to a contract be penalised for the actions of a third party not subject to the same contract? By all means penalise crowder for loss of revenue on DW if they lose advertising revenue on their site. But I can't see how the renumeration terms are based on the actions of third parties neither crowder or DW have influence or control over.
