Thank you Jonni! No matter if chest supported or not, Dumbbell rows are my favourite lat excercise and I always wondered why my traps and shoulders felt a little too engaged.. retracting the shoulder blades was the missing part!

Do not start by retracting your scapula. This means you put your upper back musculature in their shortened range where they are weakest before you even pull. Let the scapula retract naturally while you are rowing up and pulling your elbows back and down. If you want to focus on lats, you shouldn't even retract your scapula. You should focus on pulling your elbow towards your hip and keeping your elbow close to the body. If you want upper back focus, let your elbows flare a bit more outwards and FINISH with squeezing your uppet back, don't start with it. Apart from that, good video.

Great video this is a exercise that I really enjoy and have tried it a few different ways this is what I'm going to be doing today bin doing lot of work on my back to give me a good platform to go from since it's the muscles I most enjoy since starting 5 weeks ago given myself 2 years to drop from 300 lbs and improve my whole body look being fat sucks going to keep it up 5 days a week til back in work even then I'll still go at least 3-4 times a week.

Another great presentation Jonni. Top 3 best fitness youtube channel in my opinion! Question - Is there need for a posterior pelvic tilt once laying on the bench? Would this be necessary to minimize strain on the lower back and reduce lordosis ? Cheers

My regular coach quit & he was awesome. I had a sub coach from another gym come in. He had me do dumbbell chest supported rows. He had me put my forehead on the bench tho instead of my chest. I didn't like how it felt. yea I guess it works the neck but I figure I would do like bridges or something else to do that. Doing rows & I didn't felt much from my back. I'm just wondering if that forehead rest completely bad because it felt like it was. I wonder if Jonni agree or anyone else. I'm being cautious with this trainer, he seem abit nervous to train with me.

Yeah, when i do such a strict range of motion i don't feel anything. I get that's how you should do it, but i think, for me at least, if i don't cheat just a bit my back workouts severely suffer.

Would this be a replacement for a flat bench dumbbell row? Or does the incline mean different muscles are hit? 🤔
@JonniShreve
@JonniShreve 2 жыл бұрын
The exact same fundamentals I coached in this video apply to the flat bench. The flat bench will give you that much more range of motion as you’re torso is completely parallel with the ground. When doing this make sure you prop up the bench so your arms don’t hit the ground at the extension of the lift.
