Great choice with the KYB's. Installed KYB's on my SUS, the ride is much better than even brand new OEM struts. They are slightly firmer, maybe 20-25%, but gives it a sportier feel. I would not cheap out anywhere on struts, springs, or mounts. I have seen struts punch through the mount and into the steel plate on top on brand new aftermarket mounts.

Awesome video thank you! Really helped when you showed putting the strut together too. I have a 2003 outback and am looking to replace rear (and possibly front as well) struts with excel--G shocks and Rallitek coils. Rallitek has option of 0.4" lift rear and 0.0" lift front or 1" lift rear and front. I'm considering the 1" lift struts for the added clearance. And I'm wondering if you have any recommendation about stock-ish height vs. 1" lift on the outback? Thanks for any insight!

I bought all new Subaru OEM parts for my 2004 Outback rear struts and paid a shop to compress the new springs and assemble the components. I brought it home only to find that they have installed the bump stop upside down on one of the struts. Not happy. Should I have them take the assembly apart and install the bump stop correctly? I noticed lots of scratches on the new spring, suggesting they do not have a mounted compressor.

One thing I have noticed in my Haynes manual is that for the 2005 and 2006 models, it lists the torque spec for that bottom bolt at 160Nm, and the 2007-2009 models it lists it at 62 Nm. Do you know why there would be such a huge difference? It says the same thing in the FSM.

If anyone wants to stiffen their rear (my is sagging a lot with all instruments in the trunk) I read people recommend King (20-30% stiffer) or Rallitek (10-20% stiffer) springs. I will do mine once it gets warmer (May). Will put 0.5" spacer as well

If anyone has to use an angle grinder to cut through the lower nut because it's frozen solid, be very careful not to slip as the park brake cable is right above it. Thankfully it wasn't the cutting wheel that hit it. Cleaning the surface of rust where the bolt goes in with the wire wheel and slipped and hit the cable but only nicked the outer layers.

Outback and Legacy parts are interchangeable. The rear Outback springs may give you a little more height. Outback uses subframe spacers to add more height over the Legacy. Not sure how much of the height is in the spring and how much is in the subframe spacers.

Mr Subaru, what are the specific tools that you're grabbing at 6:22 to tighten the shock nut over the strut mount? I see one of them is a box wrench. What are the other ones that you inserted into the center of the shock nut? Also, I don't quite see how you did it and I don't understand how you torqued down the strut nut.

So I think it is a crescent adapter he's using on the torque wrench, helps to reach hard to get places

Thank you for the video. Question: Did the rubber spring seat came with your KYB mount? My did not. Should I order it from Subaru directly? I don't want to reuse what is there. When I looked on the KYB catalog, they did not show the rubber seat for my car. 2012 outback 3.6R Limited. Thanks.

THANKS for the secret formula of affordable parts. I'm at less than $300.00 for a pair plus tax and shipping. I have a question. I saw Moog brand rear springs for $45 a pair. Big savings - worth the gamble? I've always has good luck with Moog but never bought springs. Would you roll the dice? It would shave $75 off my total.
