We've heard him talk about his trouble sleeping, we've seen his private freakouts, and now he's a pain sponge for mattson's gutting of waystar. it's only a matter of time.

I can admit I was the one really pushing them to watch the show, sent multiple superchats to tell them to watch it but when it was S4 I never asked about it again because I noticed the writing was getting weaker and weaker and a lot of plot lines were just getting forgotten. Still glad they saw it but shame it ended in the way it did

It's clear that EFAP had some passion for this show and it's a shame that we never got an episode dedicated to it. What they covered here was already very entertaining to listen to and would probably only get better with additional time.

Thanks for this guys. I tried to express my disappointment after binging this and the fans were having none of it. I can praise aspects of the show, but the ending really fell flat.

Considering the amount of awards it’s won this year I never would have thought season 4 was controversial amongst the fans. I assumed it was one of those rare shows that’s amazing from start to finish.

Schaffrillas however says otherwise.

I agree with everything but Shiv doesn't win. She is reduced to just a wife and a mum. Which she hated the idea of being. She stands behind Tom and won't be respected or feared. Her subservient husband won and out smarted her. Just my opinion but I think in the end she'll see this as a loss.

Tom was the only one who worked to get to where he was. He was at ATN when the others where at the funeral. Tom made his own pile. I never thought it would be one of the kids.

Happy to see some critiques of show as it has found nothing but immense praise however I’m not sure I agree with everything stated here. Let’s start with my biggest disagreement….”Shiv gets everything she wanted” From the beginning of the show to the end she has always felt subservient to her brothers. She felt like she was the smartest, the most competent and being undermined ate away at her. So to see Kendall after everything they’ve been through, the one who at the beginning was poised to take it all, kick his feet up as if victory was always a certainty; convinced her to vote against. I think it lines up with her selfishness, especially as she’s about to lose everything she wanted. In the end I don’t think it has to do with her siding with Gojo I think it’s safe to say that she knew that she had no way to win and at the end she didn’t care about the family legacy and we know how she felt about her father so this was an emotional decision to spite Kendall even when he asks for reasons as to why she wouldn’t vote for him she seems to struggle at getting any not wanting to suggest that at the end of the day all it came down to was bitter spite and not something more logical or sound. Which is how she always tries to present herself throughout the show. So to say that she gets everything she wanted just because she is still at the company is wild to me. She feels anchored to a loveless marriage where she lost any transactional value she may have had in earlier seasons being married to him, always subservient to him now, a kid that may succeed and undermine her desires and ideal legacy. She is stuck in purgatory; living a life filled with everything she wanted to surpass. The Kendall route I can see more of an argument from and I found this perhaps the most interesting critique that makes me want to rewatch the show. For Conner my memory is slightly more shaky, but I remember thinking his catharsis was in releasing himself from the guilt of being the lesser brother and finds an actual love and acceptance from Willa. We see this in their wedding episode at the end it does feel like a reconciliation as been made and the way he interacts with his siblings changes as a result. Granted past that it seems like they relied on Conner doing his old dumb shenanigans which may feel like a bit of a waste.

If you listed Kendall's moves throughout the show, he's more like a guy off the street getting into the ring with an experienced boxer.

Listening to this discussion got me really interested in this show, but knowing that it gets worse down the road I'm not sure if I want to dedicate my time to it. I've considered it many times but still haven't seen any of it.

I don’t think the three main siblings were supposed to grow because of how they were raised they actively reject growth. I felt like it was more of a display on how that type of upbringing can affect a person and stunt their growth so to speak.

I would've loved a deeper dive into the series, but I also understand that the ending is so infuriating and there is so much missed potential that they may not want to talk about it again. As a personal complaint of mine, it is so absurdly stupid that they create an entire political subplot about a quasi fascist figure (*wink wink*) becoming US president that leads ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE. I was baffled. The subplot isn't even that good, but why go through all the effort of building it up and not paying it off in any way whatsoever? It really was one of the most jarring oversights of the season for me personally.

Seasson 4 was such a dissapointment and its so frustrating seeing it get soo much undeserved praise. Soo many interesting directions they could have gone with the story but they picked the most miserably non sensical path forward.

other stuff aside I don't know why they keep saying shiv got to win it all. Her last scenes imply she is now subserveant to Tom. Her having her only association with her fathers company be through her husband is poetic justice.

There is not a single point in the show where I doubted that Kendall was the best person to take over.

Another good highlight to upload in the same stride as this one would be the hot takes from Theo about Clone Wars and Fringy's about Bojack. I think they were from the same episode but I forgot which. Something sub episode 100, I think.

Another enormous element that clearly affected the fourth season that nobody mentions is Sarah Snook's pregnancy. Every decision Shiv makes this season is based on her having a by with Tom. And in the end she betrays Ken so her child will grow up near that seat of power. I doubt the writers would have come to that conclusion without being forced to address Snook's pregnancy.

I'm glad someone finally said this, Succession was the best show on television...when season 2 was airing, personally i don't think season 4 is bad, it was better than season 3 for most of the run but man that finale, what a joke, also Armstrong the lead writer personally doesn't believe that people can change like they do in fiction, even though the show makes it clear that Logan changed because of his brutal circumstances, Kendall going through similar circumstances but i guess it didn't matter, he was changing until he all of a sudden wasn't.. Also Shiv didn't exactly win, she became the woman she despised the most.

Everyone seems to dismiss Connor as a character. I think there is a lot more going on there. We know he is Logan's oldest son from his first wife, who committed suicide. I have no doubt Connor knows his father drove her to do it, but he could never voice this to him or anyone else. So he dealt with it by avoiding any part of the Waystar business, and the skullduggery that goes on. It's why he is so desperate to feel loved and 'normal' that he is even willing to pay for a fake version of it. It's his denial of what his father did.

A lot of this criticism is dumb, shiv made her decision as soon as she saw Kendall put his legs up on the desk and definitely made her mind up once she left the boardroom, she just couldn’t allow kendal to beat her which I think very much aligns with her character and it makes sense how that scene played out, also to think Shiv won in the end is braindead her end just as depressing as the others

I personally loved how a lot of the setups in the story didn’t have the payoffs you would assume or expect for a standard show. It made the show feel all the more real because real life doesn’t work as a series of setups and payoffs all towards one single minded goal.

I think you guys are analyzing the show through what would make sense narratively and what would make sense in real life corporate culture. I think the showrunners always wanted this ending, its just that ending contradicts a lot of the previous narrative points laid out by them.

Season 4 was trash, absolutely hated the ending and how every episode ended with some soap opera level dramatic threat, usually by Shiv, that ultimately ends up going nowhere and meaning nothing, in fact, thats pretty much everything in Season 4, character arcs and plotlines that go nowhere. And it all ends the same, just some random dramatic event that I'm sure the writers thought was exceedingly clever but was actually just a stupid fucking waste.

The entire plot of Logan in the plane was kind of bad and it was a turn off, yeah he wasn't the most likeable character but the reaction of the crew was like "what the heck"

you know what's kind of funny that has been in the back of my mind? mauler loves thinking about these fictional angles. it is his playground. it is his expression of creativity. it is his emotional outlet. i find the stories slow and boring. i can already analyze... uh, reality. i can already analyze real people and their motivations. it's like watching a kid love his motorized car when i'm driving a sports car. it's cute. but it's hard to care. ... but i'm not the one with the social influence and authority with an audience full of people who probably think at his level or less. you know? it just makes me realize how the world is full of snake oil salesman. full of preachers. and it's full of desperate hands reaching out. tribalism. most of mauler's audience does not think. they would like to think that they think. they struggle to express and come to terms with how they feel. and mauler is their outlet. i always thought it was weird that humans would congregate for church when it's all made up. but i've learned that it happens everywhere. it's human nature. tribalism. we want a sense of identity. a role. am i the only one that is bored out of my mind?
