But it's true, the rich are never in touch with reality if it doesn't benefit them. Why do you think slavery it is still a thing, when people are disconnected from their actions they don't even think about it at night. The show is quite balanced, they aren't just cartoonishly evil. Some are just extremely effective in their obsession with power, some are smart, by the book competent, others lick balls and play and the nepo babies are nepo babies. Let's not defend the same type of people that were popping champagne in Manhattan during the 2008 crisis.

So Shiv, giving up any chance of ever being the boss-woman, and who's greatest fear is to end up like her mother (a wife behind a man with actual power) is winning? The only person who won is mattson. Tom will spend the rest of his insomnia filled days endlessly worrying about losing his position until he most likely snaps under pressure. We've heard him talk about his trouble sleeping, we've seen his private freakouts, and now he's a pain sponge for mattson's gutting of waystar. it's only a matter of time.

The problem with your logic is that Shiv specifically wanted this ending. She specifically didn't want kendall to be CEO, so she talked to Matsen who apparently promised her that she'll be a candidate for CEO but he actually didn't so in the end she's a backstabber AND a dumbass, and finally she chose to be back with Tom for no fucking reason. You yourself said that Tom is a puppet CEO with no power of his own, so what the fuck is the point of her getting back with him? She chose this, no one forced her to. So guess what, she actually did win in the end, she got everything she wanted except being CEO because she never was gonna be CEO in the first place and she of all people was continuously explained why

Happy to see some critiques of show as it has found nothing but immense praise however I’m not sure I agree with everything stated here. Let’s start with my biggest disagreement….”Shiv gets everything she wanted” From the beginning of the show to the end she has always felt subservient to her brothers. She felt like she was the smartest, the most competent and being undermined ate away at her. So to see Kendall after everything they’ve been through, the one who at the beginning was poised to take it all, kick his feet up as if victory was always a certainty; convinced her to vote against. I think it lines up with her selfishness, especially as she’s about to lose everything she wanted. In the end I don’t think it has to do with her siding with Gojo I think it’s safe to say that she knew that she had no way to win and at the end she didn’t care about the family legacy and we know how she felt about her father so this was an emotional decision to spite Kendall even when he asks for reasons as to why she wouldn’t vote for him she seems to struggle at getting any not wanting to suggest that at the end of the day all it came down to was bitter spite and not something more logical or sound. Which is how she always tries to present herself throughout the show. So to say that she gets everything she wanted just because she is still at the company is wild to me. She feels anchored to a loveless marriage where she lost any transactional value she may have had in earlier seasons being married to him, always subservient to him now, a kid that may succeed and undermine her desires and ideal legacy. She is stuck in purgatory; living a life filled with everything she wanted to surpass. The Kendall route I can see more of an argument from and I found this perhaps the most interesting critique that makes me want to rewatch the show. For Conner my memory is slightly more shaky, but I remember thinking his catharsis was in releasing himself from the guilt of being the lesser brother and finds an actual love and acceptance from Willa. We see this in their wedding episode at the end it does feel like a reconciliation as been made and the way he interacts with his siblings changes as a result. Granted past that it seems like they relied on Conner doing his old dumb shenanigans which may feel like a bit of a waste.

I would've loved a deeper dive into the series, but I also understand that the ending is so infuriating and there is so much missed potential that they may not want to talk about it again. As a personal complaint of mine, it is so absurdly stupid that they create an entire political subplot about a quasi fascist figure (*wink wink*) becoming US president that leads ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE. I was baffled. The subplot isn't even that good, but why go through all the effort of building it up and not paying it off in any way whatsoever? It really was one of the most jarring oversights of the season for me personally.
@CSorgini
@CSorgini 5 ай бұрын
it doesn't go anywhere except for the fact that its not meant to. its only meant to show that the siblings will never care about the greater good rather at just battling with each other, on top of the fact that the show is not about a facist takeover, but from the childrens perspective.
@nathancollins1715

@@CSorginiI would agree except the writers very clearly want you to believe that Mencken is actually a super scary literal Nazi who wants to turn America into an authoritarian ethnostate, and not a bog standard free market globalist with vague, miquetoast ethno-tribalist sentiments that don't even come close to supremacist territory. Every single character, including his biggest supporters like Roman, can't help but "admit" to how evil and awful he is, without ever actually addressing his points. I truly believe the writers wrote "Jordan Peterson if he had Donald Trump's platform" on a sticky note and didn't go any deeper with his character than that. The idea that someone like Shiv would have legitimate moral convictions against the policies of a mildly right leaning figure like Mencken behind closed doors is absurd. She's eating her own rhetoric.

@@CSorgini I do understand that, however, the issue I have is it detracts from the greater point of the show by going into a side-tangent two episodes before the finale. Furthermore, none of them get their commupance or are shown the consequences for their choices in the election. I'm glad someone finally said this, Succession was the best show on television...when season 2 was airing, personally i don't think season 4 is bad, it was better than season 3 for most of the run but man that finale, what a joke, also Armstrong the lead writer personally doesn't believe that people can change like they do in fiction, even though the show makes it clear that Logan changed because of his brutal circumstances, Kendall going through similar circumstances but i guess it didn't matter, he was changing until he all of a sudden wasn't.. Also Shiv didn't exactly win, she became the woman she despised the most.

i dont think theres a bad BAD season in succession but s4 is the weak one for SURE like what they did in the last episodes is hilarious different of the writing in the other seasons not to mention how they tried to make shiv the poor one the whole season when they tried to make us hate her so bad bc of how she treated tom (i hate more him than her) the entire show and this just made me find her more annoying than ever (sarah snook is amazing tho) and i dont wanna even talk about roman in the last episode im sorry but i dont buy that sudden evolution ☠️ every finale of succession is brilliant but the series finale is a no no for me the actors carried not the writing

I think they've misconstrued a number of characters, Kendall is not shown to be competent at all, Shiv is shown to be a dumbass who doesn't understand people or how to get the to do what you want, and Roman is shown to be a self-destructive maniac who always gets shit wrong. Connor is meant to be an afterthought because that's the way his dad treated him, and Tom is shown to be a backstabbing sociopath (not really but in a business sense) who will suck the biggest dick in the room as Shiv so eloquently put it.

Everyone seems to dismiss Connor as a character. I think there is a lot more going on there. We know he is Logan's oldest son from his first wife, who committed suicide. I have no doubt Connor knows his father drove her to do it, but he could never voice this to him or anyone else. So he dealt with it by avoiding any part of the Waystar business, and the skullduggery that goes on. It's why he is so desperate to feel loved and 'normal' that he is even willing to pay for a fake version of it. It's his denial of what his father did.
