Truly this is one of the most stressful elements of my job. It's just so baffling to me how wrong so many surgeons get what is truly basic piercing info. And like....not a little wrong. VERY wrong. I wish there was better cross communication between medical professionals and piercers and better access to information for everyone. And I wish surgeons would stop giving my clients unrealistic expectations.
Also sorry the framing on this video is all over the place. Testing out some new filming techniques and this one didn't quite work out as well as I hoped.

this sounds like surgeons just massively underestimating the process of healing piercings and thinking they heal within a month, which is bizarre cause youd think they would understand the process most

Meanwhile if your piercing is infected and you go to the ER instead or your GP they will want you to take it out even if it could easily be saved and just needs antibiotics.

@@asmrtpop2676 that hasn’t happened to me but I remember I went to the hospital last year and when my temperature was being taken, the nurse went to put the thermometer in my ear which had a fresh daith piercing and I asked her to use the other ear instead and she goes “oh you got them silly ear piercings” like bruh keep that to yourself.

I wish in general more doctors would actually admit when they don't know the answer to a question, and then either refer them to someone who might, or have someone on their team look it up and get back to the patient with the answer (obv doesn't have to be during that appt). I have multiple rare disorders and the amount of misinformation I've received because doctor's egos were too high to admit they didn't know the answer is just insane (especially when they argue with me, the patient, who is actually experiencing and dealing with the disorder)

Agreed I switched practices to keep the same doctor multiple times because he was willing to do research if he didn't know something, it's so rare.

I work in the OR (but not in plastics) and personally I researched earlobe reconstruction in Nashville (so you probably will know actual names if you did any research yourself when you lived there), and EVERY site of plastic surgeon said you could pierce it in a shorter time frame. In addition, many of these surgeons offices don’t take the surgery seriously, and are charging like $2000, but they don’t see it as a big enough surgery to schedule it, they’ll just fit you in when they can… WHAT? Sorry, I know this isn’t a money maker but this is important to ME and not about lining your pocket. If I ever do anything to my lobes I’m going to a body mod artist. I’m not a fan of the plastic surgery industry as a whole even as someone who works in the OR. If I continue to pursue top surgery I’m honestly considering paying out of pocket and going to one of the surgeons I’ve worked with that do elective AND needed reconstructive surgery. Also the place that does top surgery in Nashville is Vanderbilt and I can go on a rant about that.

HOLY! What kind of surgeons are these who give out Information like that? It's almost like they want the patient to end up back on their table so they can get more money for another surgery performed... Here in Germany (Bavaria) any surgeons I‘ve ever dealt with (there were a lot and will be many more) will always very strongly advise you to not get piercings in any altered tissue, period! And if you insist on wanting a piercing in an area where you‘ve had surgery, they will at most tell you to be patient and let a professional (usually themselves or a colleage) asses wheather the scar tissue is actually healed and stable enough to go through with it. Even then they usually grind their teeth and reiterate that they advise you against it. None of them would ever tell you that it is ok to (essentially) get a wound inside a healing wound. I've only ever (and recently at that) met two surgeons who were not completely against body piercings at all, and that were the two surgeons that will perform my gender reassignment surgeries. The one who'll do the top surgery mentioned that if I wanted to get nipple percings after, I'd have to wait quite long. He didn't elaborate on a time frame, and he only mentioned it (I guess) not because I asked, but because I've got my nipples pierced now. Man, I also wish that there were more and better dialogue between medical professionals and body piercers. There is a lot of overlap in these fields and I think both sides could benefit from the exchange. But no... doctors often see piercers as "butchers" without any medical knowlage (anatomy, histology, wound treatment etc.) and I've heard a great many piercers call doctors arrogant a***h***s with a stick up their backside.

I'm having abdominal surgery soon, and this was so helpful! I've been quietly considering getting my navel pierced afterward, and was just going to go for it after the standard 6 week mark. I'm prepared to be a bit more patient now. Thank you!!

Wait, did they explicitly tell you that you could pierce it after 6 weeks!?
@Aceofkrisps
@Aceofkrisps 3 ай бұрын
@Phoenixhunter157 nah, I haven't talked to my surgeon about it six weeks is just the typical time frame that most people are considered "recovered" from this procedure and released to resume normal activity. I was just making some assumptions of my own.

It is so bizarre to me that surgeons of all people wouldn't know how piercings heal, considering humans have been piercing each other.... idk, probably most of the time we've been humans? So, one of the oldest ways we've been modifying our bodies...? Just goes to show the blind spots of a not insignificant portion of established modern medicine

With our studios proximity to Hershey Med, we get SO MANY of these in with less than 6 months recommended wait from the surgeon, and clients are so confused. It is hard to Bridge that gap with piercer and medical professionals suggesting different things. Gonna share this one!

Also, do you have a video on this or could you give advice on the proper way to keep your piercings safe during surgery? I’ve looked into plastic retainers but I’m not sure. I have many ear piercings as well as my nostrils and septum. I have had these for several years now, but if I leave them out for even a day they still close very easily and I’m afraid I won’t be able to put them back in myself after surgery. Any advice is appreciated!

Omg it takes well over a month for a tiny little 25g ear piercing to heal…. let alone A SURGICAL INCISION. Omg. Wild.

Perfect timing for this video for me! I’ve been following you for a while. I’m having a consultation for tummy tuck & breast lift + augmentation next week so I’ve been doing all the research! It’s wild how many different opinions there are. I’m glad to know that it is possible to get belly button & nipples pierced after (provided my anatomy is correct) but waiting at least a year and a half to two years after is definitely the safest thing. You are paying and going through all that pain and healing, so waiting longer for the piercings rather than have it damage your results is absolutely the way to go. ❤
