In this video I have a go at a customers Suzuki SX4 that came in with an ABS light on. A visual inspection after reading the codes revealed a corroded and broken wire at the right rear ABS sensor. It's wheel bearing time!

Such as the torque Nazis. If they had any idea about reality, they would understand that torque figures on stuff like this don't matter much. Tight enough to not come loose, and loose enough that you don't over stretch the bolt. This can all be done by feel.
@imtheeastgermanguy5431
@imtheeastgermanguy5431 2 ай бұрын
@@paulstandaert5709 no I don't think so. Torque is important specifically on a part which literally holds the wheel. But I know what you mean. I had a co worker who used a torque wrench on m6 bolts from the window lifting part. When saw this I had to leave otherwise I would laugh. In some cases it's really torqued to feel but it should be a really good experience for the stuff you work on it or at least use a bit lock tide.
@paulstandaert5709
@paulstandaert5709 2 ай бұрын
@@imtheeastgermanguy5431 some people have no aptitude for the feel of a bolt tightening to a sufficient amount, in which case a torque wrench is going to be necessary. I have tightened probably tens of thousands of fasteners over the decades and just know the feel. When bolts are rusty, the torque figures are bogus because of the friction coefficient. A rusty fastener will take a lot more torque to achieve the same clamping force as that of a freshly plated bolt going into clean metal. When it takes 35 ft lbs just to get that axle nut to move before it actually clamps anything, that alone makes the torque figure bogus. And the way I learned it is that as long as a fastener has sufficient thread engagement and is appropriately stretched, no amount of vibrations will loosen it. If they do get violent enough to loosen the fastener, the forces involved have exceeded the yield strength of the bolts and now the whole fastening system has been weakened significantly. But a bolt will still keep it in place. This is where thread locking can be beneficial. Also in situations where the fastener cannot be sufficiently stretched. Like a steel nut and bolt holding a toilet seat on. Stretching the bolt would crack the ceramic. That toilet seat WILL come loose over time. Thread locker can prevent that.

I worked for an import dealer as a Kia and Mitsu tech, and they needed a Suzuki tech when they picked up the Suzuki line (before Suzuki quit making cars for the American market). Guess who got thrown into that role? Anyway, I had this EXACT same issue on a Suzuki. Drove me nuts. I called tech assist (their were only 2 guys on tech assist for all of America at that time). They told me the way to clear ABS codes was to run a dtc test, while driving above 40 mph, and clear it while driving. Then disconnect the OBD2 connecter, reconnect it, and re test for codes. All while driving! Insane. I had tried everything before that, including just driving the car. Tech Assist's hokey pokey solution worked.

Astro makes some dang good tools for the money. Useful tools too. Calling yourself an a-hole is pretty mild, Eric. I've cussed at myself for a good hour sometimes depending on the mistake or problem. I have one of these SX4s. I don't know why they didn't sell better here in the US. They're very reliable, don't rot away, were a cheap AWD, and are easy to work on. They do have a tendency to have intermittent ABS problems which affect the traction control and throw a light. I just drive mine and it goes away eventually. Parts availability is a problem, I have to get everything from RockAuto.

Eric explained torqueing with an extension very accurately, if you torque with a crowsfoot or any side angle adapter it will change your torque value on the bolt or nut, the reason you are limited on length of extension is because a super long extension will have some twist in it when applying a torque.
@mkusiak7551
@mkusiak7551 Ай бұрын
Even with a long extension, the torque value indicated by the torque wrench will be the same. There will be some twist of the long extension, but it does not affect the applied torque if it is applied slowly. In the case of an impact wrench, the length of the extension affects the torque applied because the torque impulses are absorbed by the torsion of a long extension. The longer the extension, the lower the resulting torque. That's how torque limiter extensions work.
