Smart move running the equipment up on the logs! Better safe than sorry! I always say to myself the folks down south that get flooded from hurricanes should build a pond and use the fill for a big hill and build on it or store all there outdoor belongings on it so they're high and dry, of course you have to have enough land to do it though.

@ohhpaul73642 жыл бұрын
Bobby, I had an idea and it would work but I don't know if Corbett wants to pay for it to be done. The main thing you have here is a problem with flooding and no high areas for the roads and equipment to sit on. If you went in there and with each tract, dug drainage and used that to build roads up above the normal flood levels and if there was extra put that to decks. Where the drainage would drain out to the river, they install some kind of flood control structures or just plain old dirt plugs that can be removed when logging but stay the rest of the time to help manage flood waters downstream from building so quickly. That way you can drain the swamps to work them but 99 percent of the time they would just be swamps. It would cost some money up front, having to topo out the area and maybe cutting some tracts off and putting them with other ones, culverts and water controls; but will probably pay off in the long run. If those areas do flood while you are working them, they can drain faster. Timber is a long term investment, no matter how you look at it, you can't harvest trees off a piece the next year; the nature of the land to flood means it will never be suitable for housing so the majority of the people using the place/recreational leasers will be hunters and sportsman who would love to be able to control the water levels (at least for waterfowlers it would be), that could increase the amount charged for leasing the land by enough to pay for the work in one or two timber cycles maybe offsetting a bit with the timber harvested depending on the costs. Just a thought you may want to share with them.

Jordan Lake isn't anywhere near Charlotte. It is just west of Raleigh. It drains into the Cape Fear river. Charlotte has Lake Norman and the Catawba River. The Catawba goes down into South Carolina where it becomes the Wateree River and eventually enters the Atlantic near Charleston. I don't have a lot of good things to say about Charlotte but it's waters ain't what floods out the Swamp Loggers.

@Invictus136662 жыл бұрын
Dave moved on to a different job where he’s home more than working/traveling (something to do with electricity I think it was) and is still recreationally cooking. Joy was fired long ago-her bad attitude side overwhelmed her good side and she became increasingly toxic. Apparently getting fired was a bit of a wake up because she posted on Facebook about how it was all her fault etc. I think Bo retired or left trucking. There was something about an accident where someone died-not his fault-but he got sick over it. I might be off on that one.
