My abuela always made this and I could never figure out how she did it! No matter how I made it, it never came out like here. (I think its because i didnt drain the yucca!!!!) My grandparents were from Puerto Rico. My grandmother made the best pastels. Back then she couldn't find some of the ingredients so she had to substitute.

My mother would make these but instead she baked them in the oven. She would put them on aluminum foil with the Achiote oil and wrap them then bake them. They are delicious this way too.

Hi! I am so glad you made a video of pasteles de yucca. I have been looking for one for a long time! This brings me back to when my abuela used to make these and yes it's an all day event! Everyone had to be at abuela's house or else...lol! The only thing my abuela did differently was wrap them in the usual leaf and paper, but also in aluminum foil and bake them! They were so delicioso!!! Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. As far as ketchup, hay, my abuela would slap a hand off the Heinz bottle...lol. Pique o no pique was up to the individual. I am a ketchup girl and I would sneak a little and she'd catch me and give me the ojo, laugh and let me enjoy it!! I love and miss my abuela so much! Please try it baked, it's delish!!
