For those who missed the punchline: It was very sophisticated, but subtle. What do comedians call it when performances go very badly? Dying on stage. When he posed the question to the doctor, everyone in the audience was expecting him to go to the dying punchline. But he didn't. Instead he drew out his own joke, and then commented about failing in comedy by drawing out the joke too long instead of cashing in (via the character of the doctor.) And then he skipped his own punchline altogether. He orchestrated a small, metaphorical death on stage, comparing that to the actual death he would have had if he hadn't had the surgery. As Daniel Chavez said, and a lot of people after him, iit was meta as fuck.

This type of story/joke is written with the idea of being clever in the eyes of your peers. The truly funny stuff of that nature takes a moment to process, and therefore doesn't usually get the BIG laugh. But it does make you appreciate the writing and gains the admiration of your fellow comics. This was absolute textbook. BRAVO!

My aunt was born with an AVM. She had some weird symptoms that she ended up going in and getting an MRI for in her 40's and the doctors found it. They gave her the same option- either leave it and know that one day it can hemorrhage and it will most likely be fatal or attempt the surgery and possibly have complications/lose her life during the process... She chose to leave it and live her life like everyday could be her last. It finally was in February of last year when she passed away at the age of 70. She never complained. She never pitied herself or took it easy just because she had a ticking time bomb in her head... She just lived. RIP Aunt Bev 💜

When I had my most recent seizure (epilepsy, now treated via the best medicine ever made), I woke up to my girlfriend crying and screaming next to me, she hadn't seen me like that before. I had fallen down and suffered a pretty bad concussion, blood, knocked one tooth out etc. Couldn't remember any of it, didn't feel any pain because my brain was rebooting. I remember looking at her, mumbling that I wanted to get up and take a walk. She said yes, and when we got out, there was this ambulance standing there and I said to her: "What the hell happened, did the old lady from next door die?" Then my girlfriend said: "No, I'm still alive, but you need to get into that ambulance right now!" And I saw my girlfriend standing next to the ambulance talking to a paramedic.

Wow. I feel like I'm at the end of a journey with T.J. Miller. The first time I saw him perform he annoyed me, and I didn't want to see him on screen anymore. Then I saw him in Deadpool and my disdain started to waver. After seeing this, I realized that I actually like the guy. I feel like I have grown as a person. T.J. You the man!

Malnutrition and dehydration leads to my seizures. (severe abuse as a child; inability to maintain appetite) I would NEVER wish them upon anyone. Literally the worst experiences of my entire life. Waking up 3 days later not knowing anything at all is actually scary folks. First one was not so bad. Recovered in two days. The second one, my heart stopped and I had to be resuscitated. They called it a grand-mal seizure. I had 3 more, one where my heart went afib and again I had to be saved. I'd say what I found to fully treat my loss of appetite, but I love my job. All I will say is that nature long ago came up with a natural solution which has no adverse medical effects. It has been 9 years free of that horrible feeling I associate with deja-vu on steroids. And I am glad someone was able to lighten the mood on one hell of a scary topic.

god.... i have so much respect and love for TJ miller as an artist, comedian, director, and actor and not knowing any of this about him truly broke my heart this crowd did not deserve him and his presence because you can see the pain in his eyes at certain parts it also reminded me of his episode on "first we feast" which, coincidentally?, is recommended video #2 and it says "5 years ago" so i wonder if this was during that period or before/after/near it either way, i've gained a LOT more respect for him to continue doing this work his talent and determination exceeds most of the industry

I love this program. However if I could give one what I think is useful critique for the editing. I really don't like that they use a main punchline from each story in the beginning intro. It really takes away from it when it is told in the story.

I feel like before Ryan Reynolds became famous the secret club of Hollywood said you’ll need to extract the real side of yourself, the part with any relatable human flaws and personality, or actual dark humour. So he went through the surgery and instead of disposing of it properly afterwards it escaped and now we have TJ miller. And I am here for it!!
