I always thought that was a big reason why they spend the way they are. Because so many people were against them and where their newfound money had come from. The only way to make people like Simon and other parts of the British media lay off them is to do it shrudely. Apparently, the neutral public rater prefers that instead of coming in a buying everything at the beginning that way Chelsea's last 2 owners and Man City's owners have done it. Its one of the reasons so many people love Liverpool because it does not seem like they are buying everyone under the sun but compared to teams outside the top 6 they are spending.

It's good that Amanda staverly is getting the recognition that she deserves because if it wasn't for her there would be no Saudi takeover and Newcastle would be in the championship, she is the catalyst that has got Newcastle going in the right direction and build the foundation for a club that can challenge any other club in Europe it will still take many years but at least we're now on that journey

We are still dealing with some of Ashley era deals. On players kit deals and even sponsors. Fun 88 is over so now we can have a better shirt sponsor. We are still tied to a pretty bad Castore deal. We also have some championship level players that we can’t shift as they are on good wages and long contracts. It’s going to still be a slow process behind the scenes.

Utterly disgusting comment from a troll, most likely a Mackem. You think Salman is going to accept next season being “tough”? You think MBS is going to be happy to sit back and watch us struggle with extra games? No. He wants and demands the very best and he will get it. Sorry Sunderland fans, I know it hurts, but we are here to stay and Mohammed will not rest until we are dominating Europe.

This season was all about not being in a relegation fight (I think about 8th was the target). Now look at us a cup final and top four, we are ahead of the plan. Next season, would love more of the same. I will be happy with top 6 and a cup run. We will have a trophy of some sort within 5 seasons.
@skacel7
@skacel7 Жыл бұрын
Mohammed is not going to accept a wait of 5 seasons for silverware. He will demand a trophy in the next 2 seasons maximum. This is not a man who accepts mediocrity, This is a man who wants the very best for the Toon and he will get it. Thankfully MBS has more ambition than this commenter here, who let’s face it is probably a Mackem troll.

@ir0nMonKie Жыл бұрын
@@Garzza3165 I agree with that, but I don’t mean in the sense of attracting players, I mean in actually being able to sign enough quality staying within FFP. The wage bill is already maxed in terms of what is allowed, and naturally retaining players will also mean a pay rise. Champions league quality players are a minimum of 100k a week and NUFC don’t have many players on or above that as it is, with the wage bill maxed. Obviously with new sponsors and CL money, they can add more but the question is can they add enough to maintain a top four spot.
@AlanBrownPhotography
@AlanBrownPhotography Жыл бұрын
Everyone thinks that Newcastle can spend what they want, but like all clubs they can only spend what they bring in as per FFP regulations. They are still trying to build a weak squad inherited from Ashley and with less money than the likes of the traditional top 6. This will increase as commercial business becomes more competitive, but like most other clubs at this moment their spending power is a lot less than the likes of the top Manchester and London clubs.

@wolfen210959
@wolfen210959 Жыл бұрын
I beg to differ, there are a great many football clubs that have been badly run over the last several years, so having an owner who is concious of not spending money that the club does not generate, would be welcomed by quite a few of them. Ashley bought the wrong club, in my opinion, and should have bought a "lesser" club, whose fans would have been grateful of financial stability. Newcastle have never been shy at spending money on the right players, but Ashley only wanted to buy players that could be sold on for a profit, and had no interest in building a successful team. Clubs like Derby and Wigan have struggled under poor ownership in recent years, Wigan have been punished 5 times this season alone for non-payment of staff and players, so Ashley would be a godsend for them, but it was never going to work at Newcastle, the club and fans deserved better than him, at least that's my opinion, from just down the road at Sunderland.
@andrewcharlton6080
@andrewcharlton6080 Жыл бұрын
@@wolfen210959. The club did generate more money than Ashley was willing to spend though. Our transfer spend was very low for 10 years and he was bleeding the club dry. He also refused to pay for advertising so took money away that the club have earned. More damning for me was his poor handling of the commercial side of the business. Newcastles commercial revenue has stagnated over his ownership while all other Premier League clubs commercial revenue increased. Given how often he is lauded as a great businessman I find his inability to grow the revenue when every other club was revelling in the increased opportunities to be embarrassing.

You only have to look at the season before, already technically relegated at Christmas with only 5 points, we finished 12th with 49 points, no league club anywhere in the world has ever managed to escape relegation with such a turn around from such a dire position. I think that alone says it wasn't a flash in the pan, having said that, it is crucial we get a few more quality players in, we lack a bit of depth, and the extra euro games will no doubt be tough, if we get a few injuries our squad is fairly bare, as evident with 13 draws in the league this season equalling Brentfords 13. onwards and upwards

Arsenal, Man Utd and surprisingly Brighton and Aston Villa also improved this season. Simon, arsenal had alex on ther radar, (was 3/4th choice after Susan a year ago), as well as Bruno, man u also linked with him & wanted bot man for ages. Without the "bottomless pit", there's no way they're attracting them, or even kt. It hasn't just been the money that's done it for them, as usual, the manager is the most important part, but they're no way they get their without those stars

Newcastle can spend as much as they want buying the correct players and managing them correctly is the name of the game not just spending your way to the top. Just look at Manchester United over a billion pounds spent and they are not even close to City despite spending all that money. Despite their poor performance this season Liverpool are the closest rivals to City they only need to bring in a couple of quality players in during the transfer window and they are good to go.

having money is not enough...... how many times have Man Utd paid 80 mil. or more for players in recent years and it completely backfired (Pogba, MaGuire etc.)....... they need to find people who know what they're doing, that's the key....... look how amazing Liverpool were in recent years and yet, they are probably the poorest club in Top 6

Well Simon is entitled to his opinion, but in the back of my mind is the fact that if city win there final game on Sunday that would be 14 games they've won on the stretch. 25/26?unbeaten. Liverpool went a whole season losing only one game and still came second. PSG has tons of money. I still don't rate them in Europe and that's not only me. So no Simon I don't see them challenging city in the near future certainly not next season

I wonder if having to use Dan Burn as a makeshift left back was a blessing in disguise tactically, Keeping 3 defenders back rather than having both full backs bomb forward. I am interested to see if Howe sticks with that system or if he buys an attack minded left back

Hes been ok for us, I think he'll benefit from a pre-season with the team and come good. That said, £45 million was alot of money especially when we didnt even need a winger, we would have been far better spending £45 on somone like Ruben Neves. We only have 4 senior central midfielders on the books in Willock, Longstaff, Bruno and Joelinton and we play all of them on the pitch at the same time.

It's definitely the start of something (it may still take a few years) but this is the beginning. There are no real limiting factors to what they can achieve. They have enthusiastic and motivated owners backed by a ridiculous amount of money. All they need is time and patience and Newcastle will eventually find themselves an established title challenging team. The only way this won't happen is if the club is sold. As long as things remain as they are... Newcastle are coming. It's a matter of when not if.

@@ajfraser7648 yes but that’s because many of Liverpool’s midfielders were ageing and they lost a key player in attack. Arsenal need squad depth no doubt but their starting 11 even with Jesus is the second best in the league. See their results between august and the World Cup. The only issue is squad depth. Won’t happen but if they keep that starting 11 fit for the whole season, they’ll challenge for the league.
