It’s been pointed out to me recently that we give birth to our kids twice…the first time, which we think is so, so hard. And then the second time, when we “birth” them into the world, which is a whole other level of pain.

Since they don’t have legs, i don’t think they can be said to have butts, but I’m not an expert. Any marine biologists want to weigh in?

@@holdernessfamilylaughs We had to look this up once my kids heard it. So we made a school lesson out of it. This is what we found if anyone is generally curious like my 3 boys Shark Digestion The shark anatomy includes an intestine that is used for digestion. The shark’s intestine is shortened, but it also spirals so that it takes up the least amount of space possible. When a shark needs to get rid of waste, it utilizes its kidneys, genitals, and cloaca. The cloaca is an opening that the kidneys and genitals empty into.

That was my life after I got my license. My mum lost her license due to medical reasons 3 days after I turned 16, so I had to get my license first try otherwise getting groceries would’ve been difficult for the 2 week wait until I could retest. Dad was working crushingly long hours (harvest) and had no time to do anything. My license meant I became primary caregiver to my mum full time. It was a lot, but I didn’t have to pay for my own fuel and insurance since most of my driving was for my parents. And I had access to the farm trucks. I loved having to do the parts run into town since that meant I got to drive the V10 dodge.

One of the most difficult parts of parenting is “letting go”. It’s so hard to give up control of their safety and all of their decisions.

It does get better once you get past all the worry. Then you realize how much you love not having to always drive them everywhere and it's wonderful! It just takes time. 🙂

I was like 19 and in flight training at college. I called my mom to tell her I was going on my first night time solo cross country flight. That was 17 years ago now, and she STILL reminds me of how freaked out and worried she was all night. So... It can get a lot worse. 😁

My grown 25 year old son told me he was to go ‘parachuting’. His smile faded when I asked about the releases he had to sign in order to participate. I could tell he didn’t want to tell me he had to list me as who to call to notify about his ‘possible injuries and or death’ “So for you ‘to have fun’, you’re letting me know I should be aware the son I brought into this world is voluntarily going to jump from something meant to land?” He went back to his lasagna, ‘yep’ My best guilt shot was a blank🤷‍♀️

My son was 15 for his first solo flight interstate. Couldn’t get a driver’s license until 3 years later! He flew over our house a lot too.

The worry never ends, FYI. My father made me check in with him when he was in his 80s and I was in my 50s. And I still worry about my adult children. 😂

Any time I would travel with my job, my dad would always say the same two things to me. 1. Do you have enough money? 2. Let me know when you get there. He did this until he died at 82 and I was well into my 50's.

Nailed it! We have taught three kids through getting their licenses now and I NEVER want to do that again. The only thing I wished you guys would have highlighted was an UBER stage like morning swim practice, after school baseball practice, evening choirs practice. I feel like we were a taxi from the time they are born, but there is that pre-teen to license stage where it just consumed your whole day.

I got my license and my own car for my 16th birthday (yes, I am grateful and I was very fortunate for that.) Long before iPhone days, and yep, Kim and Penn, I beat feet (or…wheels) out of the house asap, and as often as I possibly could. Even if I was just driving around for no reason and jamming to tunes (gas was cheap.) The sense of freedom was so fantastic! To this day, just getting in the car and driving around jamming to tunes many years later, is still such a form of relaxation for me. Very excited for Lola! (Sorry it’s going to be stressful for you…but, she seems like a great kid, and I wish you all the best of luck through this transition!)

I used to think the worst parental duty was potty training . . . Until I sat in the passenger seat of my suburban with my newly permitted 15 year old behind the wheel (why had no one warned me how terrifying this would be)! It is nerve wracking when they drive off by themselves for the first bit, but it’s so nice when they can not only get themselves where they need to go, but they can also drop off or pick up sibling from practices, lesson, and especially friends houses at 10:30 at night. And the very best part - no more parent pick up lines, I solidly feel like a better person now that I don’t have to deal with the “hug & go” lane! My youngest has his permit right now, 3 down, last one to go!

Yes. My mom and I have had the “Moms never stop worrying” talk. Over 50 here with 3 kids. And your Mom’s worry extends to the grandkids eventually. My dear MIL always said “be careful” no matter if it was my husband, me, or my kids as we left to drive home. And now I do it for her. (passed 12/28/22)❤

After driving my twin daughters back and forth to the high school five times in one Saturday, I was never happier than when they got their licenses. That said, they’re now in college three hours away and I’ll never not worry.

I'm so glad we didn't have to worry about cell phones back when we taught our daughters to drive. It was stressful enough without worrying about texting and driving. Tracking them would have stressed me out also. LOL!

With our oldest, stage one was my husband and I losing our minds while our precious baby cried without stopping for hours. She refused to take a bottle or a pacifier (even outside of the car) so there was very little we could do except pray she fell asleep. Ya, I don't miss that stage 😂

I taught me 3 girls how to drive; they are now 32, 29, and 26. I can say it took about 2 years of no wrecks before I was able to not stress about them driving. That was about their junior year of college.

I am right there with you, Holderness fam! Our daughter is about Lola’s age and has her temps and will be getting her license soon! This video is so relatable! Seriously, how do they go from riding in a car seat to driving so fast? It happens in a blink! And, no, I’ve been told the worrying about them never stops. I AM looking forward to not having to be a taxi so much, though- not gonna lie.

Im not sure it ever goes away…I’m going to be 47 and I left my parents home last night and throughout the drive I would get a text from my mom saying “oh I see you passed this city” “are you speeding you’re almost home” THEN she called me twice because I didn’t call her when I got home. Honestly I’m blessed. To have someone care about me this much….priceless!

My teens both got their driver's licenses 8 months apart last year. Now they have their own cars...as a stay at home mom for 18 years I now feel obsolete 😆 -- And when my kids are away from home, I'm constantly tracking them on their phones 😁

This was absolutely awesome. One, I had two rotator cuff surgeries on my right shoulder. So I totally feel you. And two, I just said out loud last week that I wish I were driving instead of him driving everywhere by himself. I know it’s a letting go process, but man it is freaking hard! Why does it feel as though he was in the rear facing cow printed car seat, looking at that cute little mirror and smiling at me and that all feels like five minutes ago?! Wow. Now I’m crying. Hugs to you all.

My daughter is so mellow when her oldest started driving it was literally the day she got her license. My daughter said OK now you go to the store and run the errands now you go pick up your sibling from the party. My daughter is just so chill about it and it’s been great so. You know I went through three kids with it, they all drove differently, but they’re all amazing kids now adults and Parents for their own.

My oldest will be 30 this month. He voluntarily waited until 18 to get his license (we live in a city with good public transit), then spent his "gap year" driving around the country being an entrepreneur and doing "Free Hugs". That's when I got on Facebook so I could keep track of him. My now 27 year old got his license right at 16 because his school was far enough away that it was an advantage to have him driving. Both boys are excellent drivers. My 23 year old daughter has had a lot more anxiety around driving, and it's taken her awhile to get comfortable. I still track her on my phone when she's driving home from college (about 3 hours). The worry about them gets better, but never completely goes away! (But it really is satisfying and a lot of fun to see them grow into fully functioning independent adults!)

This is so dead on accurately funny (& painful!)😆 🤣 I raised 4 kids & am raising 3 grandsons & have had steroid injections in my rotator cuff for doing the backseat pass & even cranking my arm backward holding a video for them to watch while I drive! Its been 42 years of nonstop child raising & arm gymnastics for me & I have 12 more years to go till they are all 18 (I will be 73 then!) but the kids are so worth it! 😊 Thank you for the hilarious videos & making us realize we are NOT alone in crazy life situations!

Well as a parent of an adult boy-man when he started driving it took a long time and we didn't have cellphones when he was in high school. In our state teens couldn't drive for 6 months with friends and that gave me time to get used to him driving and then the freedom-no more car pools!!! He was the master car pooler for school because he drove like an old man at 16. He was the most cautious guy and still is to this day. The kids that car pooled with him have the best memories and THEN he drove across the USA to Iowa for college-talk about anxiety-I actually put my back out from that but we lived through it and now he is about the be married!!! Hang in there!

My youngest daughter got her license before the older, who just didn't want one. So when the youngest got her license and took off for school, my face said YAY, but my stomach and my heart said, OH NOOOOO. When she pulled out of the driveway and drove down the street, I turned and sobbed and sobbed and sobbed.....and boy did I pray. And THAT is how I got through those first few weeks....LOTS of prayer. To this day, 20+ years later, when either drive away, the last thing I say is BE SAFE, as that encompasses so many areas. Blessings to you as you enter this new phase of parenting.

My daughter starting driving a year ago next month. She is a great driver, as you said, she drives much better than me! I still watch on 360 and I have certain locations like her school, her job and home that ping when she leaves or arrives. I usually watch as she drives to and from different places. The hardest thing was the first time she drove off by herself! Scary! But I have to say I enjoy not having to take her to and from school and other places, and being able to send her to the store to pick stuff up. However, as parents, we always pray the Lord's protection over her when she is away from us!! Love you guys!! She will do great!!!

I’m happy for Lola and you guys must be so proud of her for this milestone. IMHO she is intelligent, sensible and grounded and as long as she has her defensive driving skills down she will do very well. As a parent of an almost 30 year old single child, and a parent with high level anxiety in general like Kim, the answer to your question is no; you don’t stop worrying. You still always worry no matter their age, but not as much or as intensely. It’s normal. But try to manage your anxiety and get extra counseling maybe if you’re having trouble as with anything. Go Lola!!! (with caution) 😊🚗

Right there with ya! 28 year old son and 21 and 20 year old daughters have done great. Our 3rd oldest girl has her permit now and will try for her license in 2 months. Terrifying! Then we still have 2 more girls to go! Over half way through but it’s HARD!!! You guys hang in there! Lola seems like a very responsible kid and I’m sure will do great! ❤

The biggest blessing when I started driving was that my Dad refused to let Mom start tracking my phone. They were incredibly nervous about me driving (and not without reason) but that forced "we will not intrude on our child's privacy" attitude made me feel so much freer! I just had to text them when I reached my destination. Now, living on my own, I just don't tell my parents when I'm driving, unless it's to or from seeing them. What they don't know, they can't stress over! 😄

When my kids were little, carrying them around (either on hip or in a car seat) gave me horrible back pain. I also was in physical therapy, along with the opioids, injections, and chiropractor visits. It took several years, but it went away on its own.

The first time your kid tells you just before 10 pm that they need you to drive them to the store to get something must have for school the next morning and you realize, don't have to because he has his driver's license so can drive himself, AWESOME! You know that was the last time he ever waited to last minute like that again.

With a 17 and 20 year old- every time they call me while out, my first thought is always, “what’s wrong?” Now that #1 is at school in NC, I track him more than in the last 3 years! His drive from CA to NC was the longest 4 days of. my. life! They are always your babies!!!

There is a six stage when the tell you what a bad driver you actually are an the very specific times you almost killed them. And a seventh stage when the drive off to either college or their life in their own car. That is bitter sweet. As always, much needed laugh. Thank you 🙏

Because Stages 1 & 2 are spot on accurate- the shoulder issue, the off-the-wall animal questions, the horrendous state of the backseats), I’ll take your word that the other stages are like that. Stage 4 makes me nervous. Stage 5 makes me soo sad. Now I’m going to look at photos and videos of my kids because I do that when I miss them. (They’re at school right now.) 💕💗💕

I taught my 2 older kids back to back so I had my courage still with me. My youngest is 16 in a couple of months and I am a nervous wreck! Having said that, you do tend to relax after awhile, and you don't even notice at what point that happens. But of course they are still on life 360 so we can see that they reached their destination, or to tell them that they were driving too fast. Good luck and God speed!

Currently in physio for the exact shoulder issue! Partial tear of the rotator cuff from flinging things backwards in the car and picking up my giant mom purse from the backseat. So real. So sorry you're dealing with it as well! Four months of physio but starting to heal lol ... The pain our amazing kidlets inflict on their moms never ends and I wouldn't trade it for the world!!

Our son turned 16 during the pandemic and all the NCDMV offices down here were either closed or only took like 4 people a day. He wasn't a happy camper. He had to wait about a year to get his license. When he finally did, it was hard to see him drive off alone for the first time. 2 years later, it's bittersweet because you miss hearing "Dad, can you run me to GameStop?" but then you're glad you don't have to actually spend 2 hours of your time running to GameStop and standing in the store for 2 hours browsing! Stage 2. Lol. When our twins were toddlers we had a minivan, so they were too far back to hand snacks to. My husband and I would throw food back and it would land in their lap. They would find it and eat it. The funniest was when we did this with chicken nuggets. Still makes me laugh.

Scariest thing in the world! My 24 year old has totaled 2 cars!! Thank God for airbags and sestbelts! It does get easier, but it's a very weird feeling to have your kid just leave and have no control over where he's going or what he's doing! I hate it when it rains, and he has to drive on the LA freeways! Love your videos!

100% accurate! It does get easier. Sort of. My kids are 21 and 25. I still worry if they're tired and they're driving back to their apartment or friends. And we live in Colorado, so my kids drive to the mountains a lot! Eeeesh! That took a while to get comfortable with. But I want to know the SECOND that they safely arrived that they are OK!

I am was super relaxed with letting my daughter drive one her own but I freak out every time I get into the car with her driving. 😂

This is so accurate. Our oldest is driving for a few years now. It gets better, I am better less worried when she drives than when another friend is driving.

Lol I also had a problem with my shoulder and my chiropractor said "are you reaching backwards a lot, like this?" and demonstrated the exact motion. He didn't have kids, so he didn't understand why I would be doing that repeatedly. 😂

My mom always told me that once you have kids, you will worry about them forever, and it's true! I remember signing up my daughter for driving lessons, and was horrified that the instructor pulled up to our house, and immediately tells her to get in the driver's seat and go! Whaaat?! I thought he would take her to a prime (safe) location, and then have her drive! She did not like her lesson, and asked me to teach her. Those early days were so scary to me. Instructors have dual brakes in their cars - I certainly did not! I am pleased to say that she has become a very safe driver, and the only time I have some concerns (because it is inevitable) is when she drives somewhere she has not been to. Like you said, I trust her, I just don't trust everyone else on the road, LOL!

I am 60 and my mom is 90. She likes me to send her email when I get home from my night shift at the library, at 11pm. She’s not waiting up… but just in case she wakes up in the night, she can check that I’m home safe instead of feeling anxious. if I were 25, I’m sure this would bug the heck out of me. But now I just accept that it all comes from love.❤️

Two stages to add to this. The one where you're the chauffeur for the whole day/night. And the one at the end where you give them all the driving to do for everything, "now that you've got your Liscence," or "if you want to use the car, then you'll need to go by the store, take your brother to his soccer practice, etc etc "

You nailed it! Every stage! We have 4 kids, now aged 19-25. Driving with new and learning drivers was one of my least favorite adventures in parenting. We all survived!

Mom of a 25 year old and 18 year old twins so I completely get it with the driving thing! Send them out on little errand trips first like the grocery store, then work up to longer trips out. It does get easier over time to let go. The shock of your car insurance bill, however, that stings more 😳 Oh, and snack slinging in my minivan, I can definitely relate 🤣.

I remember the paci stage lol. I was a mess if I even forgot it. My son is 4 now. And I love driving him around. I'm gonna be a wreck when he can drive 😂

My mother sent me an angel figurine to put in my car to watch over me while I drive. I’m 44 years old. I don’t think the worrying stops! 😂

My daughters are adults now, but the driver’s ed portion of your video brought back memories…older daughter had a fender bender the first time I took her out for a lesson. Yes, it does get better … eventually.

Awww...parent to three girls, youngest is 19. We always said our job was to provide a safe place for our kids to learn to fly. Well, they're flying, but no one told me my momma senses would continue to fire as if they were just learning to walk. When do we know when to cut the cord?! They keep me young with all the tea, but they also make me feel old at the same time. Ok, not too old, maybe just more tired. BTW, we got the 360 app when they started driving. Had to keep it until 18. Came in handy with minor break-downs and major convos when their phones were doing 80 on the highway.

A driving teen is awesome if they are responsible. I was so scared the first time she drove by herself but then I really enjoyed how much easier life became. Now my 18 year old has had her license for 18 months and it’s the best thing ever!!

Favorite quote from my daughter when she got her drivers license : "Great! Now I can drive to the mall! Um--- how do I get to the mall?" This is where the rubber meets the road; are angels real or not? My daughter is now 46 and I say they are real and active!!!

My son is in the military. He is 19 and I learned really quick on how to let go. I can't call him whenever I want to, information about his comings and goings are very vague and it is quick texts and emails usually. He was always a very independent kid and I was not a hovering parent. That helps. I will always worry about him and hope he is ok, but I am so proud of him and love the little snippets of his life that I can get.
