The gentleman on the right is David Marks (AKA The Forgotten Beach Boy) who was on the first few Beach Boys albums, but apparently couldn't stand Murray Wilson so badly he quit the band, before Al rejoined. David has survived a lot and seeing him back in the band is wonderful, almost as wonderful as seeing Brian. It's tragic that Carl couldn't be here and Dennis, well Dennis was probably never going to grow old, but I know Brian misses him every day. Perhaps one of the reasons for Brian's seeming melancholy is that, with the exception of the bridge which was always his part, he is now singing Carl's part on "Surfer Girl." He knows he can no longer hit the high notes, and he knows Carl's part is where he is now needed.

July 2 2003. I was 11 years old. My family had friends over, people were swimming in the pool. My mom brought out a little boom box and started playing music. It was a Beach Boys greatest hits CD. I heard it from inside the house and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I grabbed a different CD, went outside, switched the CDs and took The Beach Boys one inside for myself. I sat in front of a stereo listening to it for hours. Life was never the same. Man, this music is something else. Never gets old.

***** Yeah, thanks for the clarification. I saw that after I had posted in some of the previous comments. Still might have been the origin of the strange look on Brian's face though. Got it. Thanks. In any event, Brian sure doesn't look too happy to be there. Not sure why, but there is lots to speculate over. It looks and sounds like the vocals were prerecorded and they are lip synching. The voices of the actual BBs seem to be buried in the mix. They are getting on in years, and their voices are not what they once were. Perhaps that disturbs the perfectionist in Brian. Al is not holding a guitar and seems to be uncomfortable about that. Brian and Mike are right next to each other and do not even seem to acknowledge each others' existence. Not the way I prefer to remember the BBs.

I absolutely love this song. Its also very sad to hear a song that conjures up visions of young girls i fell in and out of love with and our times at the beach or camping with family. Most of them are gone now and those memories now are faded. I will never be able to repeat those good times ever again. So i ache for them, my heart missing every aspect of them. But I cherish them and will until the end. So good to see Brian still active.

So much rightful emotion flowing from the Beach Boys here. Look at the glance Mike Love gives Brian Wilson at 2:12 after he tears up. "Surfer Girl" still empowers listeners to pursue idyllic and unconditional love.

My God, it's almost 2020 and this took place in 2012 and yet sounds like 1963 or so! Just simply awesome. Thx to the surviving members. Rest in harmonious peace Dennis and Carl Wilson. 🎶🎶 😟😟🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤

Saw the original lineup (but w/Jardine) on 9/30/1963 in Syracuse NY. A lifetime memory. Got Mike's autograph...they were set up on a Baseball field and the 2nd set was rained out (upstate NY weather for sure)....all but Brian came to the stands to sign stuff. These guys and their music have touched millions and more...changed lives for sure. So glad I lived on this planet while they were here.

i rate brian among the musical pantheon but "changed lives"? aren't you getting carried away?
@redsrulenc110 жыл бұрын
Frere anak tom No, he speaks the truth. The Beach Boys truly set the bar for musical standards for the rest of time. They also introduced a way of life for surf rockers that was never seen before. So, in one way, they really did change lives. Maybe not of every person in the world, but for a select crowd.
