One of the most famous executions throughout history saw a young French peasant girl being led to the stake where she was burned in front of a huge crowd. During the 100 Years War, Joan of Arc was seen as a symbol of French heroism and belief that they could defeat the English and turn the tide of the long drawn out conflict. Joan had a religious vision, and during this saints appeared to her and told her to lead French against the English and to lift the Siege of Orleans. It was during this siege where Joan gained a notorious reputation for being a feared and skilled fighter, and she was greatly feared by the English. She managed to get the French King back on the throne, but after a number of victories she was captured and handed over to her enemies.
The English placed her on trial and accused her of a huge number of charges including heresy and witchcraft. At her trial she was found guilty, and then in front of a huge crowd she was burned at the stake. Many of those who witnessed the execution of Joan of Arc claimed that they had burned a saint that day, and that God would punish them for this. She is remembered today as 'The Maid of Orleans,' and also as a saint in France, but she died a horrifically brutal death and was only roughly 19 when this happened.
So join us today as we look at, 'The BRUTAL Execution Of Joan Of Arc - France's Warrior Saint.' Remember to support our channel, please make sure to subscribe.

My grandfather was a young American soldier stationed in Rouen France, 1917 , Base Hospital # 4. In a dream he was told by Joan to come to the square where she was executed and kiss a crying beautiful girl. Late the next night in the exact same square that Joan was killed, he found a beautiful girl crying for France over the German invasion and she was praying to Joan for peace. My grandfather fell in love and came back to marry my grandmother in 1921.

Recently I saw several pictures of the exact spot where Joan of Arc was burned. It was striking because I know what it was like at that spot back in 1431and I know what happened there. However, its now part of a modern city. There are modern buildings and cars parked all around. There was a little girl playing and on a bench nearby one person was working on a laptop and another was on a cell phone. I guess the stark differences between then and now just struck me as somewhat uncomforting and odd.

Jehanne la Pucelle had no followers ! Who are the ''followers'' ? The general population was not allowed on the old market place in Rouen, only English soldiers. Nothing special , it was the official procedure, to avoid turmoil, agitation or disorder . In 1431, the old market place was outside the city walls, with large pastures for the grazing animals... not what we see today in Rouen.

This video is better than so many other videos on the subject here, but there are some things that have been contradicted by historians. The description claims "Joan gained a notorious reputation for being a feared and skilled fighter", which is contradicted by her own statements (during the fourth session of her trial) that she never fought in combat since she carried her banner instead, which is confirmed by many eyewitness accounts. She didn't lead directly either, as confirmed by Charles VII's military records and eyewitness accounts. The English feared her because they believed she was using black magic to defeat them, not because she was fighting or leading directly.
@TheWazzoGames
@TheWazzoGames 2 жыл бұрын
Joan was more a symbol than a fighter. Her ability to boost the morale and confidence of France by making them feel God was on their side should not be understated. I've even heard a theory that she was protected from the toxic French court and given her royal/noble connections via The Duke of Alençon, who likely realized France needed a symbol with how bad things had gotten.
@TheWazzoGames
@TheWazzoGames 2 жыл бұрын
Also, I'm highly suspicious of that "black magic" claim because during her trial, Joan made the people sentencing her look like idiots when she showed them how pious and knowledgeable on theology she was. She even claimed that the men guarding her cell would occasionally go into her cell to r*pe her. The truth is most likely that the English wanted to eliminate a national symbol of France. It'd be similar to, if in the modern day, a neighboring power invaded France and destroyed the Eiffel Tower over "It being built by the tyrannical non democratic, Napoleon III"

She suffered a martyr’s death-as cruel and gruesome as the fate of many Christians who were persecuted in the early history of the church (beheaded, crucified, fed to wild beasts in Roman coliseums as a public spectacle, stoned to death, flayed, and like St Joan of Arc-burnt at the stake). For most early Christians (like the fate of all 11 apostles and St Paul), dying as a martyr in witness to their faith was the ultimate “imitation of Christ” and following in His own martyrdom by suffering and dying on the cross. She could have saved her life during her trial before an ecclesiastical court had she recanted her claim of divinely inspired militancy-but she remained steadfast in her belief. In 1450, French King Charles VII ordered a review of her trial and by 1456 her verdict was overturned and she was posthumously declared innocent of all charges including of heresy-exactly 25 years after her death. She was beatified in 1909 at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris by Pope Pius X; and was canonized a Saint in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV.

When I was a kid in the late '80s, my parents took us to the chateau at Chinon whilst on our family holiday. It was here where Joan was imprisoned. We climbed up the tower, stopping off at each floor to take in the exhibits and amazing views. Then, a French family turned up who when combined had the worst BO I've ever encountered. We were forced to climb up to the next floor to escape the stink, only to be rejoined by Les Pongs. Eventually, we reached the open air top of the tower. The BO was so pungent, we basically had to hang around up there for over half an hour until the atmosphere was bearable to breathe once more.

My first learning about Joan was a powerful lesson. You can not imagine how much I despise the English and their history. When I was a kid I survived my youth by living in the comic book world. My father would buy me comic books - but they were non-fiction comic book stories about classic novels and great historical figures - but this 11 year old just loved them all. One of these classic comics was about Joan - Jeanne d' Arc. I may remember this one more so than any other of them. 'A Tale of Two Cities' and 'Green Mansions' were a couple more, - more of many that I enjoyed very much. 'Joan of Arc' was inspirational and it provoked a great deal of thought. Leaping to the ground from 70 feet ? UMM, - if that's not divine intervention 😐. Her clothes were deliberately taken while she was in custody; this was done in hopes of prosecuting her for dressing in men's attire, - in addition to witchery. Actually, - the virtual list of crimes for which she was charged were capital. The girl's entire trial was so orchestrated as to guarantee that the child's chances of dismissal. - OR in the manner in which they murdered her, - were virtually none-nill-zero - absolutely none. This young teenage girl was 'not' tried in court 'without' any representation or a defense of any kind, - found guilty - condemned and sentenced to being burned alive for the 'reasons' or the formal charges which were brought against her. THAT, - along with the way they killed the girl was well known - known by everybody. This indeed was one of the reasons for all the afterthought and regret. They 'knew' that she was completely innocent of the changes; and they 'knew' that their reasons were completely groundless - but they tied her to an elevated pole and cooked her alive anyway. Why ? That must be another comment all by itself. This wasn't even intimated by the 'British' narrator (and this was how and why the hundred years war ended - why or how in hell would this be 'casually' ommitted) - but the critical role which Joan played is THE reason the war ended - like and when it did. Immediately following the girl's murder by those barbarians a series of

The English were damned for burning her. England the bower of Our Lady . The land which had given the world great medieval saints, lost the Faith, the greatest treasure of all through the lust and greed of an evil king and his descendants. Ste Jehanne, fleur de France, priez pour nous. This is the famous chant written about her by Ste Thérèse de Lisieux kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qa9iqZd3yNGlpas.html

I do enjoy your history videos, but I wish you would learn to read correctly. Your voice inflection is almost that of up-talking. Very strange.

The guards tried raping her while in her dress, thus taking away her chastity for God, so she put the other clothes back on and tied them in a way as to make it not easy to get to her sexually. She didn't deserve how they treated her
