He is called "Osho" in my country. My oldest uncle followed him for so long, he had changed his name, but he wasn't estranged from us really, we never find out what exactly was it cause a lot of people were following from my city, so we thought it's just another religion. My uncle never really backed out from celebrating our festivities though. He was both this sannyasin( follower) and a Hindu. He went abroad 4 years ago but never stopped wearing the necklace with Osho's picture on it. I remember 10 or so years ago when I was really young, I went to one of these gatherings with a bunch of my friends cuz my uncle invited me. I remember being so embarrassed to dance while screaming, like really loud, it was a huge hall with hundreds of people, We closed our eyes and you couldn't even hear someone breathing cuz we were so focused. I never thought of it being a cult. I only went once. It's still prevalent in my country. It is never called a cult. I had seen a girl faint and people just crying. I saw some crazy stuff from that only one time I went there. It was so fun but fucked I never went again. My uncle died not even a month ago. He was back in the country. Still wearing that necklace. They did a vigil for him. My cousin wears that necklace in remembrance of my uncle. In every single picture, you will find him wearing that necklace. Sad thing is he'll never know that it was cult, I'll never be able to tell him now.

It wasnt a cult and problably ur uncle knew that, dont worry. I'm young and read a lot of Osho books, from a young age, on my own. I don't even consider a religion what he said, it was simply about freedom and being free. I must point out that I only read the books, and years later I found out more about Osho through the netflix documentary. I wouldn't do anything that's shown there, but his books and wisdom were worth it.

@beca I agree. I have only ever known him as Osho and have been reading his books for years. I even have one of his Tarot decks which I have used for years and that I love dearly. His teachings are valid and very much about freedom of the soul and contain a lot of wisdom. I had heard of the Netflix documentary but have never watched it. I clicked on this cause I love her channel and recognized his photo on the thumbnail. I think the important thing to remember is that when it comes to “spiritual” teachers from the past to the present, they like us all, have a dark side too. And most of them have severe dark sides that balance out their “light” aspects. Or to put it in more tangible terms, higher consciousness states of mind (which I consider him to have had) also has a flip side. It also sounds like the woman had more to do with all the drama than he did. But I am not one to make opinions as I only know him from his books and teachings which I have enjoyed and benefited from. I still love Osho and think his books remain valid standing alone from his personal life. Most teachers and high profile people have skeletons in their closets. It’s what makes us all human in the end. Lol. Great video as always. Thank you for keeping me up late at night ♥️ xox

I got into Osho through his books when I was 22yrs old and I'm 40 now. I felt a deepest connection and mirroring in my heart for where he was coming from in the books. It was a gift from above those books. Maybe because "it" or truth is so scarce in America that I felt such relief to hear what I have felt alone through someone else who could say it so well. Anyways, I went through the whole ohh shit moments when I found out more on Osho and Rajneeshpuram from the internet, way before Wild Wild Country came out and it was both awesome and horrible to hear of all of that. I mean, I was like OHH Shit! He had a total following of people! How awesome! But then to see the calamity.... damn. I would like to say that even through all of the "bad" I have a deeper understanding of life and life isn't all good. Was never meant to be and never will be. The story of Osho is for all to see. But to know Osho, to know of what he was speaking and pointing to👉, to know self, to know eternity, it is blissful and I hope for others to have the courage to seek....even in the face of harsh criticisms. Even when it is unpopular.

This is the first video I'm seeing of your channel and I'm hooked. You have really great storytelling skills. It didn't feel like an overload of information given to me in a condescending way like a lot of informative KZfaq videos and channels. It felt I was listening to you drop some tea to me. It feels so conversational, I was super hooked the whole time, like "oooh girl, then what happened ??" lmaoooo I just had to let you know that. Subscribed!!

To clarify: "Bhagwan" was not his name, as you seemed to think at the start of the vid. "Bhagwan" is a form of traditional holy title, which he gave himself, like calling himself a "saint" or something like that. Same for his later self-given title "Osho," it's another traditional title that he arbitrarily took to himself. I think the best way to refer to the guy is "Rajneesh" since that was his actual name, without the extra titles. :)
@JamesChessman
@JamesChessman 2 жыл бұрын
"Sannyasin" is also borrowed terms from traditional religion, it's like saying a "monk" or a "spiritual devotee." So it's also a falsely co-opted word that is not really correct to use. His followers should be called Rajneeshees, I think, is probably the best term, lol. ALSO Rajneesh probably died from AIDS from all the unprotected sex, and nobody wanted to acknowledge that it was AIDS.
@JamesChessman
@JamesChessman 2 жыл бұрын
Also I visited the US Rajneesh center, around maybe 2001. It was mostly fizzled out and almost dead, as a community, they were mainly older middle-aged folks from the previous lifespan of the cult (before he died). They were nice people but it wasn't much of anything. Just people that liked his books and audio recordings, vids etc., more than anything. I didn't see any crazy parties or anything like that lol.
@JamesChessman
@JamesChessman 2 жыл бұрын
Also your final statement that you don't love but don't hate it, is not really an accurate conclusion, no offense, but the big picture is that the guy was completely inconsistent about everything. Cherry-picked quotes can sound wonderful, but for everything nice, he probably said the negative, opposite statement too, at some other point. He literally did NOT have a cohesive teaching or philosophy. So THAT is really the main take-way imo. He would always change whatever he was saying, seemingly depending on his mood, or the context of the talk, or whatever. So the teachings were everything, and nothing, because really it's all meaningless if he always changes his teachings, or says things that cancel out stuff he said at other times, etc. There's no real teaching, underneath it all. However, the guy was actually devoted for many years to TALKING for the entire day, I don't think you mentioned it. He would just sit and talk in a supposedly meditative state, for hours and hours. So this is the real context of when he did choose "silence," well he had been spending years of insane tons of hours spent talking all day. (There are still tons of audio and video of him talking endlessly.) People found his voice relaxing, he'd talk slow and make little jokes, and say things that would seem profound and positive. Supposedly it was a group meditation to just listen to him rambling for hours. ^So it's suspected that... during those days of talking for hours, he was apparently getting geeked from LAUGHING GAS, of all things. The stuff in whip cream containers, and the same stuff is used sometimes in dentists' offices. And apparently that laughing-gas would seemingly explain his real mind-state when he was kicking back and rambling all day, it kinda makes more sense when you consider such drugs were involved. What's amazing about learning about Rajneesh is that I literally learn something new with each video, including yours. :) But also it's too much history and madness, for anyone one person to cover it all. I only wanted to mention a few things that you didn't mention. Nice vid though, I enjoyed it and learned a few new things. It's also wild seeing the old video from the cult. I was formerly interested in the guy in the late 90's basically, but I was only reading books etc. and I wasn't hip with the web yet, to really get a good idea of what he was really about. His "Osho" rebranding is dishonest, and just to sell books, it would seem, since no one woudl buy a book from "Rajneesh" if they realized his history. But "Osho" sounds new and mysterious. IIRC it's a Japanese word for teacher, or something like that. The one book and product that got me really into his books back then, originally was the "Osho Zen Tarot," which is a beautiful deck of cards, of full size paintings on each card. But it does not contain the tradition of Zen, nor the tradition of Tarot either, it's like a scramble of everything. That's also a good way to describe his talks, it was a scramble of all different ideas and different religions etc. but obviously with himself singled out as the wealthy leader. It was all a big crazy scramble of madness lol.
@JamesChessman
@JamesChessman 2 жыл бұрын
@Boss Interepid I do understand him and his teachings. And he just lacked a real substance or meaning underneath it all. He was abusing laughing gas and that’s really his mindstate during his long rambling talks.

Not only was he a part of it but he was also one of the last disciples Rajneesh ever had, and they were very close! My family + my dads friend all grew up and live in New Zealand so it’s crazy to think he reached this far away from America. And he still follows the beliefs of the cult to this day. Absolutely blows my mind that I watched this whole video and only made the connection over a week later.

I can't be the only one feeling a bit weird that, although this cult seemingly colonized/terrorized this town, and the people talked about the historical relevance of the town, there isn't any acknowledgement of the actual owners of the land (the Native Americans), who had their land stolen and culture smouldered. Like it's a bit hard to get on board with their outrage when those before on the land were likely kicked out as well. Don't get me wrong, I do not agree with the cult's actions AT ALL, and could never condone violence on any human but it's a bit ironic that in this particular story, it's the Americans being kicked out.

@@eduarda2534 I completely agree with you. I don't really believe in people being held accountable for things their ancestors participated in nor does that justify any violence/harm against them. And they are certainly allowed to have an attachment to the land they were born/raised on. I grew up in North America and had been raised with the awareness that the land I was born and raised on was cruelly taken from those to who it belonged and that many Indigenous communities are still suffering and being ignored. It's not exactly my place to speak on behalf of their community so I don't want to speak out of line but I think even a verbal acknowledgement of the history would be nice since it is part of the actual history of the land. I hope I don't come off as too insensitive to the suffering of this community since I do not condone any of the cult's actions at all obviously.
