it's pretty sad to see people like that especially when you know it's pretty common for this type of thing to occur with serial killers. The belief they hold that they have the power to "fix" people is just a flawed and dangerous mindset. I remember watching a case of a woman who broke free from an abusive love, only to return back because of that very same belief; she ended up being murdered by her very own love sometime after reconciling. Remember this: no amount of love can ever really fix someone; only the person themselves can truly fix themselves if they choose to. You are no savior that can turn their life around. It isn't like the books where you can simply look into their eyes and suddenly everything changes. This ain't a fairytale, it's real life with real harmful consquences, and some people fail to really grasp that and cling onto a false hope, only to realize all too late. Honestly these type of people need like some therapy asap; something in their life just broke them enough to go simping for serial killers and, i think they should start fixing themselves first before tryna fix anyone else.

Ed is one of those cases where, yeah, can you understand the why? Yes. I feel like you can UNDERSTAND why someone turned out like they did, without trying to justify what they did, or make it seem like it's suddenly okay. It's still not okay, but it does make sense.
@usernamenotfound6515
@usernamenotfound6515 2 жыл бұрын
@Zih Vil I think what OP means is that Ed grew up with absolutely no understanding of the outside world or how to socialise and such. He probably never fully understood that others can feel pain and such since that's something we're taught and learn in our early childhood. So you can *understand* why Ed thought these things were okay and why he did them (which is more for the fact that he was trapped alone for so long that he was obsessed with others- especially since he's a male and has never seen a female so he was curious but also his mother might have expressed to him how she wished he was a girl), but that doesn't excuse how awful everything he did was. And there are plenty of people who grow up in similar situations but don't then do evil things like this, so it's certainly not an excuse for Ed, though.

@Zih Vil It’s definitely debatable if he knew or not. I see him announcing that the woman was simply at his house as proof he didn’t know it was wrong. However, he did initially deny everything when he was caught, so that supports the opposite. It’s difficult to come up with a definitive answer
@sylmarie

@Zih Vil I don’t think it’s correct to say that “we all grow up with correct understanding regardless of our circumstances” just because you were abused and you recognized it as being wrong. All people are not the same. All people don’t think the same way

I kinda feel that one of the reasons that Eddie dressed up in woman skin is because his mother really wanted a girl but ended up with a boy. If Eddie found out about his mother's desire he could have thought that this was how he was supposed to be. Another reason could also be is that he loved the women's beauty so much that he wanted to wear it.

@Zih Vil idk. Not everything has to be about misogyny. In this pertucular case, we don't know the extent of how his father affected his views but it's safe to say his mother had the most influence in her children. Lack of socialization is for sure one part of the extent of the things he did but his brother was actually able to snap off her mother's brainwashing while he didn't. Like he even killed his brother for going against his mother. Figuring how his mother was, I wouldn't be surprised if anytime she snapped at them she brought up the fact that she actually wanted daughters, coupled with the fact that she probably wanted her sons to be the type of men her own husband never was. Plus, she was abused by him, so we don't know exactly how she transferred that onto her sons in the sense of hatred towards men or simply any other person other than herself. This would translate in not seeing people as actual human beings, plus either hatred, though I think it was more jealousy at the fact that if he was a woman, maybe his mother would've loved him more, as because of all the displays he made and how painted genitalia silver and put a freaking bow on it.

Funny that you just covered this story, because in my last video we visited his hometown, the land where his house once sat, interviewed locals whose family members knew him, and even spent the night ghost hunting in the jail where he was held after his arrest! We were also given access to his personal items. We literally got to hold & investigate Ed Gein's knife, his guns (with original crime lab tags), his snowskis and even his razor blade for paranormal activity as well! It was one of my favorite videos I think I've ever made. Super cool to explore this extremely dark history in person. We also visited Bernice Worden's grave and laid flowers down on it for she and Mary Hogan. You'd probably like it! Great job with the videos, keep it up !!!

I say this on every video about Ed gein, my grandpa grew up in the same town as him, he said he was very kind but strange. He’d sit at the diner counter waiting for kids to get out of school and offer them rides home. I visited the town when I was younger and the hardware store where he committed the murder that got him caught
