i agree. i don’t have schizophrenia but i do hate that it’s always synonymous with violence. when i speak about it i will only say things i know for a fact are true, usually based off the few friends i have that deal with it and what they talk about experiencing, too many people are misjudged because of these mental illnesses and it isn’t fair to them.

People often miss that, they think taking any time to understand or explain why a crime happened means that you excuse it and think it’s ok. Like sorry but random acts of completely unprompted evil are insanely rare. And understanding crimes can possibly help prevent them. But the person who did it still committed an unforgivable crime, even under tragic circumstances that doesn’t change and they’ve still earned the consequences

Absolutely. And while I completely understand the reason behind people who are homicidal never really getting help and being treated as murderers even if they’ve never harmed someone sucks. When I was a late teenager/very early twenties I definitely had issues with homicidal thoughts. I knew it was bad obviously but it’s the same with knowing that suicide is bad. You find ways to justify it to yourself. I just wish that the same degree of help offered to suicidal people is also given to homicidal people because if you haven’t done any crime I don’t think that having urges you can’t control is worthy of being treated as if you did the crime. Even for pedophiles. They’re the worst people alive but pedos that have harmed children and pedos that haven’t should be treated differently. Not good but not as bad as those that have actually hurt people. Idk I just know that I had to spend a lot of time to figure out where the homicidal tendencies were coming from and how to get them to go away. It was quite honestly very difficult and I didn’t handle it in quite the healthiest way considering I just self harmed instead of hurting others. It makes me wish that there were some sort of resources out there for people who don’t want to deal with it but don’t know how to not have those feelings because it’s so much easier to deal with if there are people that know and are there to support you in getting away from that mindset.

I disagree, I think that many many people are just not equipped to be parents and even if they seem “perfect” to the child or to others, they can still inflict massive trauma within the child even if they’re not aware of it, possibly their entire lives. Think about how many adults are walking around who claim they never suffered any trauma, when from an outside perspective it’s clear they did. If anyone has ever been suicidal or homicidal, it stems from trauma. Point blank. I think many don’t realize just how subtle it can be, and yet still be deep enough to cause someone to want to take another person’s life. Not enough is understood by the masses about child psychology, but early childhood affects EVERYTHING about a person’s psyche. Healing is always possible, but for someone to get there in the first place is only ever a result of unresolved trauma. I think it’s actually kind of harmful to suggest otherwise. No one is born evil.

I think it is good that she did not forget what she did, but we must also understand that she was sick and, although this does not justify what she did, she is a person who needed treatment. Let's hope that if she comes out, she goes on with her life without hurting anyone else.

While that is true, not all disorders are trauma responses. DID is a trauma response that starts in childhood (cannot be diagnosed until adulthood) while Schizophrenia can be hereditary. DID is exactly what it sounds like, you experience so much trauma that you dissociate to protect yourself and in dissociating so much your brain creates a whole nother person to be there and deal with the garbage that you can't.

Very true! My brother suffer from schizophrenia, yet my parents always treated him like a king and always gave everything and did everything for him. My brother won chess competitions and had the best grades. I was the younger sister who was kinda neglected, but I didn’t mind since I really liked my brother and he deserved the best. So when my brother was started to randomly act weird and got into this point, it really broke our family.

10000% agreed. I have a disabled brother so when I'd come to my parents about my own mental health they'd pull a similar comparison stunt / not take me seriously which is a frustrating and horrible thing for anyone to go through, but I didn't kill someone because of it. Not to take away from her crimes at all but I really wish her parents would have taken action initially. If they had they'd still have both of their children. The whole case is incredibly sad.

I understand fatigue and the absolute sacrifice of a caregiver. I am a single mother, My daughter is 22 years old and has CP with spastic quadriplegia. Extremely severe. Non verbal, non ambulatory and needs maximum assistance in life over all. But is straight FIRE! lol she is AWESOME, smart, kind and funny. She is in there whether others want to see it or not!! And I commend anyone who has taken on this role. Bc it 24 hrs. It's hard, and taxing. Plus there's work, there's life, there's the caregivers individual wants and needs. Finding balance is a struggle. But...its about perspective. However if you know how to listen properly, people like Helen and like my daughter, will LITERALLY give you the answers of the universe period. I can't help but get a little triggered by this 14 yr old, privileged kid literally piercing her sister's throat with a knife. Her sister who is better than me. Better than her, better than most human beings. People like Helen are just better than most of us. And if you are exposed to them you should understand that...or leave period. It's not for everyone. But flagrantly not paying attention to what in that person is actually in front if you is a CHOICE Its the worlds biggest secret. They look meek, and to be "nonproductive" members of society to most. Yet, they are composed of complete innocence. They will never lie, they love and give kindness and compassion with out ulterior motive. They are literally what more people SHOULD BE. And to know there is a set of people that would glamorize this absolute waste of a kid...who was actually blessed to have a sister like Helen, makes me livid. Yeah... we all understand as caregivers the absolute exhaustion, the physical hardship on our own bodies. The sacrifice. Sure. This is what true entitlement of a privileged youth looks like. I'm sad her parents did not validate her needs the same way. That happens DAILY in many households. It still doesn't make it even a small bit understandable. I think that as caregivers we have to understand ourselves through the special person in our lives. We are just as chosen with the capabilities to do this job. If we ignore that and sell out to our own stuff with out being grateful daily for our abilities, then we are doing ourselves a disservice in realizing our own potential. But this kid, was not a caregiver, at least it's not reported if she was. We are talking, the lifting, the bathing, feeding, gtube operation, feeding, dressing, care after multiple extreme surgeries, packing wounds, incision care, seizures, medication administration, plus having the energy to show that person a good life. This kid was probably not responsible for any of that. She robbed the world of a teacher. Someone truly made and chosen to be pure, and stayed that way even though adversity that could put down a full grown man. And the people that glorify this killers cowardice, applaud this person for anything at all after Murdering a completely defenseless innocent little girl... are perhaps the most ignorant. They should all be replaced...with an army of worriors, like Helen...

I 100% agree, my twin brother has cerebral palsy and autism and he is my favorite person in the whole world, the sacrifices we make for them are so worth it just so we can see them smile and have a good time. Her family actually had a history of schizophrenia, so for her it was genetic!! Putting out a blanket statement saying that it is ALL caused by trauma is not a good thing.

I live near waukesha and was around 10 when the stabbings happened so I’ve been really interested in the case as well and can you believe one of the perpetrators ( Anissa) was released a week ago? she was granted early release after only 4 years of staying at a psychiatric hospital yet the victim has been living in fear of them ever since the incident so I can’t even begin to imagine how she feels now that one of them was granted early release

A lot of animes have these issues cuz they sell more if have these kinds of things., its sad but it happens with a lot of mangas that when they got an animation, themes like Ecchii and other problematic things are included just to appeal more to the public., unfortunaly its something structural, hypersexualization of minors, sex and violence for example always will exist cause everyone consumes these types of midias, and doesn't even need to go to far in japan, these things are in everything all around the world :( (srry for the bad english)

Imo a lot of anime is about facing and overcoming bad morals, shounen, magical girl, romance even some in the horror genre are heavily based in rising from the underdog. I feel the trend she sees isn’t the violence that gets inspired it is that a lot of these people are stuck in their head and use anime as an escape in a way. I really haven’t seen the trend she’s talking about, I’ve only seen a few where anime was a part of the perpetrators life. There could also be the romanticization of their own lives where they think their actions are cinematic- could be seen in a handful of criminals who leaned on any type of entertainment media before committing their crimes.

There is definitely something to be said about how those who don't feel like they fit in would gravitate towards entertainment from other cultures, regardless of its content. Anime is anime, so it does satisfy gore and all that, though I digress. I feel like it's more that anime isn't American, or Western for the matter, but a Japanese medium of entertainment, so ye. That, and correlation doesn't equal causation. Lol
