Disturbing indeed. Their descent into darker crimes was expected, but It's still so unconscionable to poison a child for a few pounds. There's such a savage underbelly to the life of Victorian Era poor that's always uncomfortable to hear. But thanks to Brief Case for reminding us of our not too distant history.

The sums the sisters got were pretty hefty at the time - where the average salary of a factory worker was, literally this time, just a few pounds….but yeah, they were monsters, plain and simple.

@@lazyhomebody1356 Exactly. Thankfully cases like the Ripper cases helped to pave the way for social reform so some good came out of these cases. Of course it probably didn’t entirely help the families of victims but still at least necessary adjustments were made. And this is still happening today with victim advocacy groups and new laws being passed.

This was truly one of the most "horrific" cases of two sisters who murdered even their own family members for money. I'm glad that justice was finally served in their death penalties, only wish they would have been exposed earlier, period. Great investigation, presentation and photos, too.

It really struck me that the doctor told one of these poor victims to stop drinking cheap whisky. And then went on to prescribe him opium. Makes me sad also that these poor people drank alcohol rather than infected water. It can't have helped with the crime rates - there must have been so many alcohol-related crimes. I think it was just a matter of time before they got caught and they did because of greed. Killing a child is a horrible thing that killing your own child such as the son, you can’t get lower than that. Whatever circumstances you’re born under such as being poor it’s up to you how you want to get out of it and killing is never the answer. Although these two women were illiterate they still knew what they were doing when they decided to kill both made bad choices Stories like this always affect me when children end up as victims thank you so much for another great video have an awesome week I will see you next Monday

AGREED...I've been watching crime shows since I was a kid. Probably because my dad was a police officer and would tell me of the numerous stories he had about his day. Early crime shows and movies were my favorite but Brief Case takes them ALL because even though many of those cases were based on true stories with a few details removed or altered, Brief Case covers the ENTIRE case and he doesn't miss a detail or at least the way the story is told, it sounds thorough and legitmate to me to believe even if some details are missed, lol but the research effort put forth in producing this video is absolutely incredible from the sound production to the video montages and editing that is done - All of it is makes this channel so watch worthy.

The older sister had a good business sense. If she hadn't been greedy she could have had boarding house through Britian. The history of how they lived is crazy. Britain's poor people suffered so much. They didn't play. She ratted everyone out. I find it interesting that people rather drink alcohol than water. Because water made them sick. Insane. Greed is a powerful sin. They could have had a good life. But, they chose greed. Everybody stay safe. BC really enjoyed this one. ✌ stay safe.
@Areyousayingidontknowmyname2 жыл бұрын
Weirdly enough Greed also has probably brought about a lot of societies achievements. Its the typical double edged sword. But you are right though if she had put her mind to increasing her business sense instead of trying to skip corners she could have been a real player in that time. Really how would a person not find greed as an option. Considering the level of poor these people lived in.
@fadeblac56332 жыл бұрын
@@Areyousayingidontknowmyname , greed takes alot of planning and work. Just like doing the right thing. But, either way she became something big. A hundred years later and she's still being mentioned. In those days I wouldn't blame people for stealing ect... because life was so hard. But, murder! You can also make amends for stealing. Not murder.

I love having a social history lesson along with a real life case study with BC. My first thought with this case was how much privacy we have now, how precious it is, and how much we take it for granted. Until recently, the average person had to work long hours, and then they had living in a lodging house with the Flanagan sisters to look forward to at the end of the day. The Flanagan sisters' profiteering and being sociopaths reminds me of the Clintons 'business and body count' activities in our modern era. The health and death statistics that form the backdrop of your stories are always of interest BC. The police did a good job getting these two to the gallows. If they'd lived now, they'd have put ads around that said "children, young women and healthy men die of heart attacks" as we suddenly see now to justify the population culling agenda of the global predators. You've done a great job presenting this insight into a family of insurance frauds BC. What a family to produce two such evil offspring!

What contrasts! The prosperity of the city and the wretchedness of its inhabitants, the wide squares and pillared halls of justice and the foetid narrow alleys and cramped housing....no wonder so many went down the dismal path of crime, taking lives for derisory sums of money. If anyone is interested in what life was like for the contemporaries of these miserable women, they can consult the eye witness accounts of Friedrich Engels : "The Condition of the Working Class in England" - and marvel that humans could survive in such a state.
