I've never had that reaction. I was bullied and it just made me want to be kind...but it is said that parents who abuse their children were abused themselves. I guess it's a human characteristic. Maybe harming animals and younger children gave him a feeling of power

@@lazyhomebody1356 Same. I endured a lot of bullying at school and by family. I actually never wanted to be a wife and a mother as I was afraid I would be a bad parent. But, like you, it made me more kind and empathetic. Especially towards those who could not stand up for themselves. People can make choices to break cycles of abuse. Well said #Aphantastica, and #aye70aye. It's so easy for some persons to put on blinders, and only see the horrible things he did. But add together syphilis damage, with an abusive father, plus from a very, very young age being bullied by other children, and growing up spending most of his days wandering around the streets alone (!), it doesn't sound as if he was given much chance to turn into anything else than what he became. I presume that when they eventually sent him to the young offenders institution, the damage was already too ingrained. Besides, such institutions which I've heard about, hasn't exactly been known for their excellent rehabilitation scores.

What you say is all true but many millions have suffered abuse and have not done such despicable things. I was abused daily by a stepfather, both physically and mentally and I was nothing but kind to my younger siblings. In fact I was the only nurturer in that household. I've never even been mean to others unless they started it. Personal responsibility and basic human decency come into play SOMETIME, SOMEWHERE. I know he was a child, but still! I am not an expert but really, would you trust such a person free in society? I feel pity for the boy but am more concerned about innocent victims. They come first. His other siblings likely suffered in the home as well. They didn't go on to commit such evil.

I think I understand your comment. I'm often puzzled when people say children are honest and innocent. That's because I witness children lying with great ease and creativity. They also do selfish and/or cruel things with no regard to how it might impact others. I think there's a natural survival instinct born in children that prompts them to put themselves first. What THEY want is most important. The younger they are, the less filter they have over self-serving impulses. As kids mature, they acquire empathy and learn about considerate behavior. Something went terribly wrong in Cayetano's case. He continued to feed his impulses, growing monstrous instead of human.

It was a foolish insightment by him to kill the prison cats. Not only would they be very useful in keeping the cells vermin free but for prisoners starved of human love they would be like surrogate children. Anyone who would harm them would draw the ire of the entire inmate population perhaps even the guards. The cats would have made the guards job easier by smoothing the edges of some of the more violent convicts.

I have never heard a story as gruesome as this one. The signs were there that Cayetano Santos Godino’s behavior was becoming more violent. I don’t think that Cayetano’s parents realized that their young son was on his way to become a monster. Even at a young age, he killed animals and harmed or killed children. The police in Buenos Aires could’ve stopped him before but they let him go because he was a child and they had no idea what to do with someone that young.

When I was in Serbia I watched 4 year olds regularly playing on partially open balconies 16 stories up in dilapidated high rises. None of the adults seemed to notice. @@dondamon4669NO.... That is not what I meant at all. How did you extract "that I watch my children better, so these unwatched children deserve being hurt?! " No, maybe it's a translation issue for you. Let me explain. My child was always doing things to hurt himself, like running in front of cars, jumping off roofs, chasing snakes 🐍, you know? Regular kid stuff. Its hard enough trying to keep them alive without a killer running about grabbing them. I wasn't judging anyone's parenting. I'm just curious. How? How does a parent not know where their 4 year old is? Children do dangerous things when unattended.

@@shelleydawnballard In those times in Argentina, immigrant families would live in buildings commonly called "conventillos". They were large houses and families would share some of the rooms, like the dining room, bathroom and a central patio. @@micaela1646 thank you for a very understandable explanation. In my neighborhood, we are not communal unless it's a holiday or school or church event. Even then, we are paranoid.. Because most are aware that pedophiles love to take jobs where children are involved. However, your description of these communities remind me of my childhood in the 60s. Before we were traumatized by horrific child abductions and murders, caused our community to change as it is today. Kind of sad, because a loving family community is wonderful. Its a shame pedophiles have changed our lives in this way. Thanks again. For reminding me of my own childhood and its good things.

I never had any sympathy for her. The way she asked the boy's mother if she could see him in his coffin...

I’m curious, what prayer would you pray for children that have been deceased for over a century.

Fascinating though clearly tragic story sir. Thank you. I wonder how you find these stories and carry out such detailed work and also wonder why the stories are not better known. By publishing the stories you carry out not only a historic duty but a tribute to those involved. Blessings and peace
