These crime stories from centuries past are fascinating since forensics were in their infancy. It makes me wonder how many murders had been chalked up to illness in the past. If George Crozier hadn't been so careless and practically broadcast his affection for Minerva Dutcher, he might have gotten away with it.

Or Minerva would have grown away from him as old age would have been overtaking him just as she was reaching her prime. Her affection would surely have found another direction. Then it would have been a race to see which one would be the first to commit murder. The young wife that had fallen for a man closer to her age or the old man seething with jealous rage.

If she truly wanted to end her life from dying with stomach cancer and told her husband and son, why would they have not told the doctor who was giving her medicine to help her get better unless they wanted her gone. Even if they were following her wishes, they surely would change their mind when they saw the suffering she was going through. For that reason , George killed her, I believe.

What a great way to start the new year! Arsenic! Seriously, this is an age old story. All vegetables are poisonous, but they’ve been bred down and hybridized. Wild carrots will kill you. Oranges used to be bitter and poisonous. Almonds had cyanide in them and still have small bits of it in them. Kale and other brassica crops cause hemolytic anemia, goiter, thyroid issues, birth defects, miscarriage, and sunlight sensitivity. Greens and things like dates and almonds also have oxalates in them. The plant kingdom survives via chemical warfare, and they create anti nutrients to protect themselves since they cannot run away or protect themselves with teeth and claws. The government prefers you sick and weak, so they leave out the pertinent chemical information.

@resourcedragon
@resourcedragon Жыл бұрын
I wonder with whether or not there really were as many poisonings in history as there appeared to have been. As noted in this case, the medicine that poor Fanny was prescribed may have contained arsenic (I'd be curious if the dose she might have received from that would be as great as the dose that actually killed her). There was a lot of arsenic (and a variety of other poisons) rattling around in cupboards all over the place, so that I think there were a lot of opportunities for accidental poisoning. I also question whether or not the forensic techniques were really up to the job, for example, whether or not they were able to ensure that samples weren't contaminated and the chain of evidence kept unbroken. So I'm not sure that people were necessarily poisoning their spouses quite as often as was claimed at the time. What about these days? I'm not going to say people don't try to poison each other these days but my impression is that it's not all that common. However, I think there are quite a few people who are murdered and whose deaths are not investigated. Missing people are an obvious starting point. If someone goes missing and no one tries to access their bank accounts and there's not a peep out of their telephones or on their social media accounts, then that says to me that there is a good chance that they have met with misadventure or perhaps worse. Then there are the homeless, particularly rough sleepers. Unfortunately, I doubt that people would look for them if they went missing.

Fanny also has one slang meaning in America and another, cruder meaning in Australia and England. I sometimes have difficulties focusing on the stories with that name in them. Not Briefy's of course. (In the USA it's meaning is a bottom, that is, a bum. In England and Australia it's still an anatomical term and still in the same general area but it's only present in females)

This case could be either way. 1. Her husband killed her to get her out of the way; or 2. She killed herself to frame him because of the humiliation of being cheated on. Being afraid of stomach cancer would be the perfect excuse. Although a big part of me is saying he did it, there is still a lot of that reasonable doubt going on too, thanks to his attorney. I don't know that I could have come up with a guilty verdict.
@jubileeballoons5773
@jubileeballoons5773 Жыл бұрын
I agree. U.S. Law says “if you have any doubt you have to vote Not Guilty.” Fact is that good lawyering did raise a little doubt with the “she feared stomach cancer” IF that were true but reality is this it all got down to his daughter in law’s testimony “he ask her to lie for him & proclaim his wife spoke of taking her life.” The jury obviously believed her so they voted guilty. However, that he remained adamant of his innocence all the rest of his life does say something. Either he’s in deep delusional denial or, he was innocent. 😮 Oh well adulterer in your case that was the price to be paid for brashly stepping out on your wife. Que’ sera’ sera’.

Mrs.C Was too sick to have continuously given herself arsenic in a timely manner. In conclusion, she would have had to take a large enough dose to kill herself all at once. However, I did wonder about the daughter-in-law(.DIL) If Mr C had told DIL to say his dying wife told her she would kill herself with arsenic should she find out she had stomach cancer,in order for DIL TO gain maximum profit, it made me think she KILLED HER MOTHER-in-law. Since the son would inherit everything and they could immediately move Mr. c’s love interest out of the house. Many twists to the story pointing at other people who may have commuted the dastardly deed! …So not guilty !
@kathyjones1576
@kathyjones1576 Жыл бұрын
@@jubileeballoons5773 sure it could be true that he asked her to lie for him. But, look at it this way...just because the daughter-in-law said she never heard her say that, doesn't mean she never said it. Fanny's son said she had talked to him about her concern about it. A couple other people said the same thing. So it looks like she confided in a few people, but wasn't really obsessed with the idea. If she was, she would have been spreading it around like gossip. That defense attorney did his job, he found those few people who she had confided in, and used that information to throw doubt into this case. The husband doesn't seem like the brightest crayon in the box, to be honest. If he did ask his daughter in law to lie for him, he could see the direction the case was going, and out of fear, simply did another stupid thing that actually made it point back at him.

I don't know if George killed Fanny. However, reason doubt was raised when three doctors removed the wrong organs in the first exhumation. Two them attended Fanny when she was alive. Who's to say that she wasn't misdiagnosed and was given "medication" she didn't need in the first place. On another note, I'm want to know what Frank's relationship with his wife was like after the trial.

That's what I wondered about also. The son said one thing and his wife said something totally different which probably sealed the father's fate. Hopefully they'd discussed it and he knew what she was going to do. The son was torn about losing his father too and felt compelled to lie (?) for him, but maybe was happy that his wife would get some justice for his mother. That's what I hope anyway. If not, that would certainly be an awkward marriage from there on out. Lol!

Keep the booms! I LOVE IT! I listen to your true crime stories while sitting in my car in the parking lot at work for 30 mins before entering my hospital for my 13 hr ICU shift (Yes, we have to get and give report... so it's 13 hrs, NOT JUST 12 hrs!). MAKES ME FEEL LIKE ME JOB IS VERY INPORTANT. I need to look past the minutiae and look at the BIG picture. I've helped to solve many cases throughout the years because of widening my eyes' view. I think, "Hmmm... This is very odd. There must be something else going on here. What would an 1800's Doctor or Nurse think or NOT THINK OR DO?". Sometimes, it's the most simplest answer that everyone else overthinks. They think renal failure, RESP failure and altered mental status from metabolic acidosis. I think, "ALCOHOLISM, DRUGS or even POISONING! WE NEED A DRUG SCREEN! NOBODY LEAVES THE FAMILY ALONE WITH THE PATIENT AT ANY GIVEN TIME. Ever!". People don't realize that Munchausen syndrome or Munchi by proxy still EXISTS in our society. To every Healthcare worker that reads this, "Please, remember to be involved and DO NOT be afraid to call 1-800-96-ABUSE! When you see bruises on the inner thighs of your patient or bruises all over the body in different healing phases; CALL THIS NUMBER AND REPORT! You can make a huge difference in a person's life! Even when they are in their 90's with AMS (Altered Mental Staus). ESPECIALLY THEN! THE ELDERLY ARE LIKE THE YOUNG. THEY SOMETIMES/ DON'T HAVE A VOICE. We are our patients' advocates and we sometimes we are the last resort before their awful, untold and forgotten demise.". Sorry for being such a bummer. I'm a strong believer in advocating for MY PATIENTS (and sometimes their family members [that's a whole other jar of worms that I can speak for hours about] Just be AWARE, PLEASE, my friends!). My veredict: shamelessly guilty Fanny knew that her husband was cheating, he got her ill and told people it was because she ate cucumbers. She got the hint and maybe, got so depressed that preferred be dead than continue seeing her shameless husband flirting with a younger girl. It's a sad story. At the end, the girl wasn't so dumb to stay with a man that killed her wife for a younger gal, she could be the second... Aside of shameless, he was terribly dumb and sloppy. Well he got a life to pay his consequences.

That means she was 13 years old that means that he is a pedophile that is disgusting I am shocked that no one is mentioning that that's not a young girl that is a child and he groomed her. He is guilty he is a pig

Good Morning, I hope your holidays were relaxing and exciting at the same time. This was a good one. I was a bit conflicted only because he seemed upset while his wife was sick but at the same time what was he doing chasing around a young lady? When he married a week later I thought that was a little quick and then hired the young woman that he was chasing around which made me think would he murder his second wife and then marry the young lady that was obvious in my opinion, the woman he wanted to be with. Love, money and infatuation plus arsenic are a dangerous combination. Have a wonderful week

This story reminds me of an old joke I used to hear (that's what us old people remember 🤣) my dad and Grandpap used to say to our family that when their wives became 44 they would trade them in for two 22's. Fanny was 37 and George traded her in for an 18 year old 🤔 Thanks Brief Case, God bless and have a great New Year and week ahead 🥰 I do love your videos so much ❤️

Interesting defense. I could almost believe it possible except for a couple of witnesses. It almost sounds like a confession after trial, but then he wouldn’t take that deal. He’s not likable, but it’s hard to know without seeing these people. I think the jury really did get it right. Guilty or not, I’d have taken that deal no matter what people thought of me, that’s jail for heaven sake!

Not sure if I commented this before but I found your channel during covid lockdown at a time when I was "looking after" a kid while he did his online lessons, which he took in the basement; essentially I just sitting around making sure he ate a healthy lunch and didn't go anywhere during the day, he was in middle school and didn't need me holding his hand. I would listen to your videos and struggle not to doze, you have a very calming voice and I was pretty tired, but the "booms" between scenes did a good job of keeping me conscious. To this day I'm fond of the booms and your soothing voice!

Since he wasn't clever enough to avoid so openly show his infatuation in Minerva, I wonder if he was clever enough to not write something incriminating in those letters to Minerva. Or maybe they just contained infatuated nonsense, who knows, but imagine a descendant finding those letters... Happy New Year Brief Case!

This was a great case to start off a new year, fascinating and yet intriguing about the "horrific" murder of Fanny Crozier. I believe her husband murdered her, but he definitely didn't get the sentence that he should have or the young woman he was infatuated with. Great investigating, presentation and historical information, too.

This video reminded me of my grandmother's saying "Na svatého dvoře nejvíce jest hoře" which can be translated into something like "Misery is the most common thing on saint's backyard". In this sense saying reffers to apparent over-religious stereotype, who on the surface is pretending to be best of the bunch while in reality they're one of the worst, for example by constantly demeaning and insulting, or outright beating their relatives, ruling over them with iron fist and at the times living at their expense, or even expanding this abuse to portion or sometimes even entire community. And they often see this as their divine right, therefore would never admit to any wrongdoing, no matter how obvious it is.
