Finely decided to purchase the 2013 Harley-Davidson Iron 883 on 6/27/13 and this is a video of me leaving Latus Motorsports Harley-Davidson.
Since this video, the Iron has made it through the 500 mile break-in period and has had it 1,000 mile 1st service. I've replaced the rear shocks and installed a for kit.
After a little over 1,000 miles, I could not be happier with this little bike!

I bought an 2013 XL883N, had the same shock problem within three weeks. The dealer fixed right away, took shock apart and greased the bushing. Great bike, keeps getting better the more I ride.

Don Haller That's cool they got right on it and fixed it. Mine turned out to be the little cup on the upper left shock eye. It had turned when Harley tightened it down and was rubbing on the shock body. Fixed it when I got home that night and there was no damage. Congratulations on your Iron! I sure love mine... You won't be disappointed! They are very reliable and very easy to service (regardless of what the Harley dealer may lead you to believe). I performed the 1st (1,000 mile) service on mine in 45 minutes, by the book. The Harley dealer wanted $450...! They tried hard to schedule that during the purchase. Plus, it's a Harley-Davidson! That's totally cool in and of itself...

I just bought my iron... love the hell out of it! I had the ring the bell too as a new harley owner! Im coming from a gsxr 1000. I didn't realize how much fun having a Harley would be! good pic I have the exact same color and everything

Man, I know your feeling of elation, I just picked up a 2013 Road Glide Custom on August 25 and I’m still in shock that I finally got it. After 2 long years of perseverating over getting my credit straight and saving my money, I was able to qualify as a tier 2 borrower and take my bike home with a 6.75% APR. The only thing that was missing was the pomp and circumstance that you received when you drove into the sunset on that beauty that you purchased. Congrats, and enjoy the ride.

Haven't done anything but suspension mods so far... I purchased a 2012 XL1200V "72" with 1,200 miles three weeks after the Iron, and it has Exhaust and Stage-I kit. The 72 is loud and fast, so I'm starting to like the quiet stealthiness of the Iron, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do... Thanks for viewing and commenting! - Shawn

The break-in is 500 miles. The standard stuff... Don't hold at high RPM's, don't lug the engine, vary the speed, etc. The 1st service is recommended at 1,000 miles, then every 5K after that. Thanks for watching!

I went with Progressive Suspension 412, 13". So far, I'm quite happy with them. It took a couple hundred miles to break them in though... As I was advised by some Harley riders, they work better than some higher-end Progressive's I've used on other Sportsters, and I paid half the price! Thanks for viewing and commenting! - Shawn

It started back in the late 40's after WWII in the UK and gained major popularity in the 60's and again now, in current times. It's basically back road burning between cafes (or pubs) on custom bikes that handle any kind of riding styles, twistiest, drags, even a little off-roading... Google it for the detailed history. I purchased the Harley pillion seat and pegs for the Iron. I only took my wife for one couple hour ride, and everything was just fine. I took the pegs off and put them on my 'Seventy-Two' to give it a try... It was such a pain to put the right peg on the 72 that I just left them on it... Lol. I'll order another set for the Iron soon. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Nice bike I have 77 custom ironhead 1000cc it's got a wide Glyde front end 21 inch 80 spoke front wheel soft tail rear fender I'm the second owner of the bike only thing I've had to fix on my harley was the transmission my main shaft 23 roller pin bearings come out destroying all my gears I replaced them with Andrew gears . just in case someone reads this comment might be replacing there transmission in there old irionhead r sportster from 64 to like 84 r the same only 64 to 72 I think not sure then they switched the transmission over to the right side. when putting your transmission back in make sure your all of your gears r spaced correctly and once your transmission housing bolts r tight your main shaft should spin freely with no drag and if it has drag you either have incorrect gear spacing between your primary shaft and secondary shaft or you might even need to shimm your main shaft. cool video put some deisl pipes on that iron make it sound really sweet and give you a few more hp.

Shawn, you say a couple times around the 3:00 mark that you want to let the bike cool down...did it get that hot that quickly? I'm seriously considering the 883 as my first motorcycle and am trying to learn all I can from other riders. Thanks!
@ShawnSmoak
@ShawnSmoak 10 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed reply! The Iron wasn't getting hot at all... I had to take a lot of freeway to get her home up north, which is not the desired way of breaking-in a bike's engine. I was just doing heat cycles, run it to temp, let it cool off and back to temp, etc... Just some old school break-in practices that probably mean nothing nowadays. Hope you end up with an Iron 883! They are a ton of fun... Thanks for watching and commenting abeigor !

@Chrisdbliss1
@Chrisdbliss1 8 жыл бұрын
As your first bike, I wouldn't recommend something bigger. I am 6'5", 280 lbs and I ride a 2005 Harley Davidson 883. I think it feels great. I would recommend that you go to a dealership and just sit on a bunch of bikes. Sit on the shadow, the v-star, a sportster. Then when you are ready, find a dealer that lets you do a test ride. If you find a dealer that doesn't let you test ride, they might even make you feel bad for asking. Those dealers you know are cheap. They can't even pay for good insurance. So don't go there. Best thing you can do is sit on a bunch of bikes.

I was thinking of buying an "iron" for my Dad (he's 75), I was wondering if it's slow and weak enough?
@ShawnSmoak
@ShawnSmoak 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, any bike can be slow and weak by controlling that right twisty thing... Lol If you're asking if it's power and speed is low enough not to get someone in trouble, I would have to say no. As with most bikes in this class (ie: Honda VT750, Kawasaki VN900, Yamaha XVS950, etc.) they can be very easy to control due to their torquey v-twin engines. The Iron would be fine for rider graduating from a beginner bike... I hope that somewhat answers your question. Thanks for watching and commenting Joe!

Agreed, Sir Shawn. He practically stole it. Actually, I'm envious. P.S. You are A-okay in everybody's book bro.

I really want one, but I cant decide if it'll be the iron 883, xl1200c or the forty-eight. I hope it looks badass on a 5'5 1/2 filipino guy. :P

Harley has to tease us with multiple choices to choose from...! They are all awesome, you have to find the one that speaks to you personally... Oh yeah, you would definitely look badass on one! Thanks for watching and commenting Tetels Jose !

I prefer the iron 883 over the two, I just want to customize it and make it my own.

What jacket are you wearing? Looks like the perfect ventilation.
@ShawnSmoak
@ShawnSmoak 10 жыл бұрын
The jacket is a Firstgear TPG Rainier. The ventilation is fantastic! Though not the best behind a large touring shield, as I've found out on those types of bikes... Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks Shawn for responding so fast. So what would you suggest for a protective jacket behind a windshield that still offers ventilation?

Well Cory, I'm looking for that one... I usually don't ride the touring bikes in the heat, but I find myself taking two 2,500+ mile road trips on tourers. One one a Spyder RT, followed by almost the same trip on the Road King in 100°F weather. This could be very interesting for sure! I'll let you know what I figure out...
