@@sebastianahrens2385 Agree. I actually don't blame DR for leaving RB. I think he saw himself as the next Mark Webber to the favoured Seb Vettel. It was clear that Max would become the favoured one within RB (and probably understandable to some extent) and at that point of his career wasn't ready to give up the hope of being WDC one day. In hindsight he probably would have been a more competitive teammate to Max and may even had beaten him on the odd occasion going forward (yes. I know he did beat him but Max was still developing ) and won many grand prix. But he would never have won a WDC with Max in the other car.

I've been SO hopeful that 2024 would be the year when Daniel returns to his best, beating his teammates by a considerable margin. The facts are however, that whatever happened at McLaren has completely sapped his confidence, and in reality he's unlikely to get back his mojo. He MUST start beating Yuki and beating him handsomely if he's to stay in F1 let alone get a seat in a better car. I really believe he should consider retiring gracefully "for the good of the team and of himself" rather than ending his career being ignominiously "dropped" before the season ends.

I agree that leaving Red Bull was a huge mistake, I was a Ricciardo fan but it looked like he was running away from a fight. What really finished him off was not only a bad season with with McLaren but the fact that he wasn't just sacked he was bought out for a huge amount of money. At the time his wealth was estimated at 50 million dollars. He's got a farm in Western Australia, a mansion in Beverly Hills surrounded by movie stars - owns a brewing company and a car collection that includes at least 2 McLarens. He was being rewarded for being average, but Formula 1 doesn't reward a driver for being average. It forgets

To be fair, it's his inability to self analyse and pinpoint his problems, which is the biggest headache. Is it corner approach? Throttle control? His driving style? His braking habits? Data is showing him everything, yet he reamains "puzzled" all the time. At McLaren, it was "something intangible". At Renault, he couldn't "quite put his finger on it". At RB, he's "was happy with his lap, but somehow slower than Yuki" You can't rely on a driver's "Mojo" "Feels" "Vibes" forever... He needs to produce performances, yes, but also convincing explanations of his current pace, and a roadmap for mitigating his problems😅

I was a fan of DR when the racecraft was there, but it wasnt his performances that made it hard for me to continue cheering for the guy, it was his shift towards this "IG clown" persona while giving excuse after excuse for his poor performances. Suddenly the driving became secondary (for himself and fans alike), it was all masked by tons of excuses about cars and styles (and surely a ton of """funny""" """content"""), but now it feels like McLaren Ricciardo is just who he is at this point. Kinda feel bad for him but when you remember how he ran away from the fight with Max (trying to make it look like it had nothing to do with Max), how he kept the talk like 'he's back' or 'never left' or 'still there' with zero results to back it up, yea no mate I can't be a fan, head down and maybe focus less on TikTok and more on technical aspects, or some hours on the sim like Max and all the top drivers do.

Then he ran away from RB favorising max in 2018, not from max, ican understand rb since he was as good but younger and many "youngest driver records" is good for rb advertising, but dont play blind. Then "zero results to back it up" okay thats was a bad season but when he said that he just had won a grandprix in a mclaren, but okay zero results sure. You just dont like him and thats your right.

I think more than anything, he can only drive a car that suits his style, and is unable to fully adapt to a car that doesn't. And unfortunately the RB19 is still that RBR that suits him, so when they gave him a second shot at a drive and had a successful test and got the seat, I think it gave a false hope as the RB still doesn't have the front he needs. It's a confidence killer, along with the incessant media (this video not excluded), and I'm curious if he can ultimately be successful at RB.

I felt sorry for Ricciardo during 2018. After that win in Monaco, his season was a disaster of continuous car problems, which led to a ton of DNFs and grid penalties that compromised his race (hitting Räikkönen in Belgium was his only error I can recall). I recall it being painful to watch.

There’s a reason Redbull has an entire program dedicated to finding and training young drivers. To tailor them specifically for a Redbull seat, Redbull didn’t train Danny how to drive a Renault or McLaren and now he’s back in a car that’s quite literally passed him by and sadly he’s just too “old” at this point to be able to adapt. Life, man.

I think ricciardo still has pace, it seems like ric has a very specific driving style, which when the set up is done correctly he is very very quick. Mexico is an example of that. You dont become washed in a few months after qualifying p4 in an alpha tauri. He is a risk however, as he is underperforming in qualis this year, but I think we should just wait and see. Its been 3 races. Im not saying he will but what if from here on out he outqualifies tsunoda. Its so hard to tell. Anyways, if he continues like this he should be removed, but I think he needs more time tbh. Give him to mid season break to see what he can do and what happens.

I think thats the problem that Daniel Ricciardo brings, he shows glimpses of greatness every once in a while and his popularity rekindles, i think he will have 2 o 3 really good performances before the summer break, but they will be enough to overshadow Yuki and put Daniel back on the map of the redbull seat, because lets be real Redbull would sell more cans with a Daniel/Max pairing than a Checo/Max pairing, Redbull doesnt need Ricciardo of old, they already have Max to overperform, if Ricciardo can perform as good as Checo the seat is gonna be his.

Obviously these types of things can't be pinpointed to just one factor or day, but from a fans perspective I'll have to say it all came down crashing officially at Imola 2021. Ric clearly still struggling with that car, but perhaps more relevant was the massive development of Lando Norris. Being in contention for the front row (lap deleted), but ultimately so quick in the race that the only smart thing to do was to hit Ric with that team order message. Even if Ric had come to grips with that car he would've always been in the shadow of Lando at McLaren.

@dunniss 29 күн бұрын
I like that you included his move to Renault wasn't necessarily a bad one AT THE TIME. Knowing the situation at the time is completely relevant to why he made that call. 1. Money - Red Bull offering him $10 million a season versus Renault offering $21 million per season. 2. Preference - Red Bull backing Max Verstappen over him. He knew he would be playing second fiddle, and at that time he was still high from a stock perspective, and wanted to win a championship 3. New regs coming - At the time the new regs were looming, and every driver though the new regs would massively shake up the field and even up the playing field. Red Bull up until that point was still running a Renault engine, and the Honda engine wasn't the best out there, so no championship in sight at that point, merc looking unbeatable. The summary being, Ric took the cash and a 2 year deal with Renault, believing what Cyril Abiteboul was saying around their plan to improve, he quickly worked out that Renault were unable too and will never go anywhere, hence why he left for Mclaren (albeit with a life changing amount of money in his pocket and a huge social net worth from a branding perspective as well).

You should have pointed out that it was announced he was leaving Renault and joining Mclaren before the 2020 season had even started. I think his crash with Max at Azerbaijan was the day that changed his career. He walked away from a fight and toward a team with an engine that had given him something like 8 DNF's that year. Red Bull switched to Honda and went into the stratosphere and Daniel wasted his best year in a Renault car and engine that just wasn't good enough, which is what prompted him to leave for Mclaren. It all starts with the decision to leave Red Bull, which even he himself was his biggest mistake. Only Red Bull and Mercedes have won championships in the last *15 years*. If you get a seat at Red Bull and you want a championship, leaving voluntarily is madness.

I really don't think nor do I believe that Daniel Ricciardo have fogotten how to drive a Formula 1 car at a competitive level, I mean he was at Max's level and in some races he was even faster, he truly deserves more time and would be a shame to see him go. In my opinion is just that with the lack of practice and testing what is 3 races?, nothing, he should be given more time to practice with the car and I know it is the same for everybody but the fact it is the same for everybody doesn't mean it affect everybody the same way, some drivers need more time to get used to until finally everyhing click again at least I found myself to be that kind of person.

He needs to race himself, not his team mate. You can't emulate another driver's style, you have to be able to do it yourself at your rhythm. Ricciardo thrived when he was the hot new thing or the #1 driver, but when confronted with a better team mate and a design philisophy that is very different I think he looks outside to improve. Gaining some insight via data is one thing, but even Christian Horner is on record about how Daniel had obviously altered his driving and developed some bad habits from McLaren - likely in an attempt to be closer to Lando.

I think he'll be fine by the end of the year , where he's going I'd say the plan has always been to leave him at rb for a couple seasons ... reason being they need guidance on getting the car into the top 5 teams (which is the aim for rb) . You only need to listen to what the team is saying to understand what his value is with the big picture in mind , yeah lawson is waiting in the wind , but his entry into f1 is inevitable , it fares better for him if the team is better poised to race for podiums as it will boost his career much better than racing for the single point at the top of the mid pack . 👍 And on a final note , He's only ~0.1 off tsunoda in 4 races , that's not bad in effectively his first season at rb 😉

I disagree with this video. Ricciardo's move to McLaren seemed like a step up from Renault in terms of prospects. The challenges related to the characteristics of the car are being blown out of proportion. Both Norris and Piastri are doing fine, and so did Sainz in the past. Adapting to change is fundamental in F1, and Ricciardo simply failed to adapt at McLaren. The turning point in his career was the day he chose to leave Red Bull. Not only was he running away from the challenge of Verstappen but more importantly he was moving to a less competitive car that had no real hope of becoming a title challenger. It seemed like an emotional decision and something seemed off about his whole approach. I don't see how you can justify that move in any way. In a super-competitive sport like F1 you can't afford to carry any baggage. Ricciardo certainly had some and it weighed him down over time. He had the wrong attitude and paid for it.
