When the investigator is chuckling at Todd's jokes, he pauses mid laugh and says, " And that's after you shot him?" and Todd says "Yeah!". Clearly the investigators know their psychology. If they treated him like the monster he is, he would clam up and wouldn't tell them anything. They're giving him the validation he's been begging for so that he'll spill his guts. I agree that taken out of context it is very upsetting. But these detectives are doing everything they can to build a case against him and bring the families justice.

I feel like the interrogator laughing along with Todd isn't because he is a terrible person and finds Todd funny. I think he's trying to build rapport and so he can get Todd to admit to as much as possible. I know it seems callous and disrespectful, but if I were a victim of Todd's I would rather the police keep him talking so Todd will admit to everything, rather than them ending up shutting him down and jeopardizing the case.

She acknowledges that it is due to "buttering up" the perpetrator and getting them to confess due to their misplaced trust in the interrogator. Her issue with it was the victim possibly hearing the transcript in court (they're traumatized, this is extremely sensitive topic for them, etc.).

@@lotsofuwuenergy3983 but in the case they were talking about, there weren't any surviving victims and based on what we know about todd, he's willing to brag about what he's done if someone is willing to listen. it's definitely hard to witness, but without manipulative tactics like this, there could be a lot of missing information and even more bodies kept secret

In regards to the detective laughing along with Todd, it's the detective's job to make the criminal feel safe/comfortable/etc if that's the approach they need to take. I understand your viewpoint on the interviews but honestly: cops are not your friend in an interview room. That cop was manipulating the perp to get a confession. Cops will say anything to get you comfortable with them so they have something to use against you in court. He confirmed about 3 times in that little laughing scene that the perp killed that man. He got 3 different confessions that he indeed shot the man in about 45 seconds just by making a simple joke. He wasnt trying to be disrespectful to the victims he was trying to get as many confessions as possible and get justice for as many people as possible

Agreed. If you’re in an interrogation room, you can rest assured the person sitting across from you is NOT your friend. This dude was a lifetime loser and psycho that probably always wanted to be a cop, or in any position of authority, but his crime at 15 made that an impossibility for him. He wants the cops the like him, be impressed and they took advantage of it.

As someone who's gone deep deep into criminal psychology, I understand the flinching at the jokes towards the victims, but you have to understand that this is just how these psychopaths think, and in order to truly understand and build rapport in these questionings you have to go deep, no flinching back. Their minds are unyeilding and disgusting in their disregard for human emotion. I highly recommend the book The Murder Room by Michael Capuzzo as some supplementary reading into criminal psychology, and general detective stories. Just my take.

I'm diagnosed with depression, anxiety and psychosis by the doctors growing up, sounds tough. But I've never thought about harming another person besides the thought of taking my life time to time. Sometimes I think people who do harsh acts with "mental problems" are just genuinely evil. And no doctor can make an excuse for it. Your actions make you who you are.

Psychopaths have differences in their brain structure to neurotypicals. For example they have smaller areas in the brain which deal with empathy and larger reward centres in the brain. But most psychopaths don’t go on to abuse people. Also some people who have damage to their frontal lobes in the brain which means that they have less impulse control than neurotypical brains. But again poor impulse control doesn’t lead to criminal behaviour. I really think antisocial personality disorder does lead to this behaviour. Evil just feels simplistic to me, like ‘the devil made me do it’ and they take no responsibility for their actions. I feel like they are more likely to hurt other people but it’s still a choice. I have depression and anxiety and I’m autistic, so I’m fascinated by why people behave like they do. My dad is a malignant psychopath. He enjoys hurting people and only brings pain and unhappiness into everything and everyone he encounters.

(This isn’t intended to be rude, but) psychosis is a symptom of mental health issues such as schizophrenia, not a diagnosis. People experiencing psychosis may also be in the trenches of other symptoms - for schizophrenia, this can include: delusions of grandeur; anhedonia; and hallucinations. Someone experiencing these issues may think they (and/or their loved ones, community, country, etc) are being threatened, endangered, or persecuted. While they may not want to cause distress, pain, or harm to someone, their delusions warp their reality into thinking these actions are absolutely necessary. This can yield terrible results, however it’s worth noting that 1) people with mental health issues are significantly more likely to be victimised than victimisers, and 2) people with mental health issues are significantly more likely to cause harm to themselves than anyone else. Again, I’m not trying to be rude, but comments like this do a great disservice to those struggling with mental health issues. Psychosis is a cage, with sufferers experiencing irrational thoughts and a severe disconnect with reality. That doesn’t make a person “evil”. Interestingly, the indicator that the man being discussed wasn’t experiencing psychosis is that he was present and aware of his actions. ETA: One can experience psychosis without a pre-existing mental illness, but to repeat: psychosis is not a diagnosis. It’s a mental state, and a symptom.

Just for clarification, the interrogator laughing with Todd wasn't really getting along with him -- it's an interrogation tactic. He's "befriending" Todd to lower his defenses and make him talk more. They only have a limited amount of time to get as much information out of the criminal as possible. If the criminal asks for a lawyer, that basically shuts the police down and makes it where they can't keep getting information (because the lawyer will advise the criminal doesn't speak). So if the police officer had snapped at him and (rightfully) told Todd that he was being awful, Todd likely would have clammed up and demanded a lawyer, vs continuing to spill information that would convict him later.

The way the interrogators act is an interrogation tactic. Like you said, it's their job to get a confession, or at least get a story that can be compared against other statements from the same person to check for discrepancies. Yeah, to us it seems rude to the victim. But most of us haven't been interrogators and don't know how difficult the job is. I'm sure they were thinking about how awful those discussions were while they were having them, but anything to keep the guy talking. I'm not saying that there aren't any terrible cops; or course there are. Unless we've been in that position, I think we should think twice before judging.

Yeah her comment was really weird. And with what they were talking about the victims hadn't survived to know what they said. Idk I feel like someone who is doing true crime videos should understand what the investigators were doing.

Being able to lie his way through life and being able to work a pretty good job after 15 years jail time really shows what privilege can do for you. I watched another video on this guy but they didn’t have that first portion of his SA in the video. If he was anything but a young white man, he would not have been able to talk anyone into believing his 15 year jail time was a misunderstanding. That alone to me is wild

Yeah like youre a registered sex offender and you have a felony but they still decided to hire you ? And the cops in his house were so respectful and polite. Totally said “Bless you” and you threw me off when you said “Thank you”! Now i feel completely compelled to SUBSCRIBE because the last video you said “costed” and as i was caught off guard by you saying that, you chimed in on a separate edit correcting yourself so i then started to google “costed” as you chimed in again on a another edit because you said it twice at this point and had looked it up yourself and found out it is in fact a word. I would like to add that i enjoy the way you deliver your content in a calm yet intriguing tone that the first video i watched by you was during a massive panic attack and i was seeking content to distract myself and 3 hours later.... im hooked, completely calmed and wanted to thank you for that! Plus i really like the “natural” look you are doing with your makeup with the freckles, its giving me great inspiration to try something new which turns my anxiety into excitement!
