I had no idea Nicholas Hoult could play a jackass so well. Tyler is easily one of the best jerks I have ever seen in a movie. The scene where he got humiliated while cooking was amazing.

I feel as if part of the reason he comes across as providing such a great performance is because we've all met someone (watered down but basically) like them, even if only briefly.

She got way more out of it. She got validated in her essence of being. A lower class, hard working, authentic human who amongst these privileged and arrogant people was able to rise to the top of the ranks and achieve *what nobody else there could do. She didn't get where she was by stepping on *others and being a shitty person. She was given hope that she could still enjoy life. I've watched about four reactions to this movie just today. I'm in love with the premise of this film. It has a lot of sociopolitical comparisons to our real world scenario, even in the dishes served. Stellar movie, indeed!

I just came across your channel and subbed. I absolutely enjoyed your reaction to this film. I was in the service industry for 40 years and I know exactly how those chefs and chef Julian felt. Lol! It was really interesting and satisfying for me. N.Hoult in The Great is fantastic. He’s very funny in that show. I don’t know if you’ve reacted to The VVitch yet but I hope you do If you haven’t. The bowl of emulsion is the same thing the critic commented on as not good enough. She was really trying to find fault. She was then sent bigger and bigger bowls. As in, we heard you. Emulsions will split if you leave them alone for 10 seconds. That's just what they do. The quote from MLK was to show that these people are so privileged that they never had to fight for anything. Everything is simply handed to them. So when they're in a situation where they need to fight back, Erin is really the only one who actually tries more than once to get out. Erin's experience as a sex worker is what gives her the skills to not only deduce that Slowik was only ever happy as a simple burger flipper, but she also knew how to manipulate the situation to give him the experience of doing something he genuinely loved doing. Basically she created a scene, and dom-ed him into doing something. And like a good customer, he should pay her for providing him a service, and she is able to give him all that without breaking the script for the evening. She creates her own little side show, while staying within her role as a restaurant customer. Very smart, and had she not had the experience of giving people these scenes, and reading people to understand what they want/need, she would probably have failed at it.

I think almost all of us can agree that Chef Julian Slowik is INDEED the main villain of the film, he is not the one who started it. I would argue that Sous-Chef Katherine Keller is the bigger bad here since it was her plan to kill everyone including HERSELF and Julian that set the events of the film in motion. Julian was already feeling some type of way about how his life was heading as it is and went along with it. Its really sick and twisted on her part for even thinking of it at all. With that being said, I really appreciate the themes of what the movie was trying to tell us and I can relate to it in some way. I'm a dishwasher at a local restaurant in Michigan and let me tell you, its not easy job at all. I can kind of relate to Julian's resentment of trying to please these kinds of people and the idea of never being satisfied with what you have in front of you. I liked the idea of us as human beings taking things for granted. Of course, we don't condone his actions! I think the only ones who didn't really deserved their fate was the actor and the wife of the dude who was cheating on her. Everyone else, including Tyler, all deserved it. I don't count Erin since she wasn't supposed to be there at all anyway.

Whats the name of this island? I'm getting some S2 E2 *Community vibes. A certain someone thought it would be bad ass to hunt humans, on an island, if I remember correctly. Cannon? 😋 EDIT: Also, notice how the chef had stabbed his father in the thigh, then later gets stabbed in the thigh. Interesting symbolism, indeed.

As much as we'd like the wife to be able to leave, she knew she had to stay because she realized that her husband was absolute scum and pretty much ignored his behavior, especially when it came to their daughter. She accepted her fate because she knew that she enabled her husband's behavior.

I thought this movie was a surprisingly good watch. There’s also a theory that he actually didn’t spare her at the end, “The cast are notably shown Hawthorn's smokehouse, where staff member Elsa explains they age the meat of dairy cows for 152 days. When Elsa is jokingly asked what would happen if they ate the beef on the 153 day, she states, "I suppose the bacteria would introduce itself to the consumer's bloodstream and spread into their spinal membranes, after which point, he or she would become incapacitated and shortly thereafter expire.” So people think he made the burger with that beef and so she’s going to die too!
@AnnekeOosterink
@AnnekeOosterink Жыл бұрын
That theory can be easily disproven though. The burger was made with fresh beef, and not smoked meat. Smoked meat is very dry, and does not fry into a juicy burger, it turns into a sad cremated bit of beef. Smoked meat is meant to be eaten as is, not cooked any further, which is why if bacteria is on that meat, it won't die during preparation.
