Is it an American CULT City? It is considered the most progressive city in America. Maharishi Vedic City bans non-organic food, and it's community meditates twice a day in America’s largest meditation dome. Maharishi Vedic City was inspired by of one the world’s most famous gurus, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

In India every household will consider vaastu when they are buying a house. The main entrance, bedroom, bed, kitchen, bathroom everything related to directions and even the small mandir inside house. In India every temple is like an energy. You feel so refreshed and calm when you visit temples in India

I have owned a house in Vedic City. It is an extraordinary experience that even as my house was being built, the non-meditating workers expressed amazement because they could feel the energy. When I had to move away, I feltl the contrast. I now feel the increased aging effects where I live--the denser, heavier atmosphere; the lessened quality of sleep, the increase in anxiety and less natural happiness.

@@rudeanne To start, everyone at Vedic City practices Transcendental Meditation. TM is not a cult or belief system but research has shown it is the most effective meditation technique so the people who live in Vedic City are highly developed. Also, every house in Vedic City is built according to natural law standards that are conducive to health and long livity, called "fortune creating homes." Anyone can live there who builds or buys one of these homes. Vedic City is the biggest and best "Vastuu" community but I moved to Florida to be part of a similar community that is being built in Vero Beach. www.maharishivastu.org

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this.. Maharishi had big effect on my life and his teaching that the mind naturally wants to go to a happier place so meditation should be effortless was a break through for many. He once told me "My love for you was established the day I met you" and that is a lovely memory to have.

This is the kind of thing that eventually caused me to go my own way. I'm not against the movement but in my case the constant introduction of extra things I needed to do to "get there" made me realise that reflecting my greater self was not dependent on anything external. There is no journey, there is only "this", nothing can be added, or is missing. No special community required. Total collapse of all structures constructed within is all.

It could be a very huge adjustment moving there and even more so to move out of there after a long residence. Cult is a strong word with negative connotations. We need another word that describes people who ferociously believe in a particular life style in pursuit of spiritual growth.

Hey this is a great video with one glaring inaccuracy at 5:35 “The goal of TM is to dissasociate into a thoughtless void.” Not so. Thoughts are fine and there is no goal. It’s a process, and an experience, that is satisfying and makes goals easier when you are not meditating. Disassociation is more a term you use for PTSD. In fact people who tend to disassociate can be more grounded withTM. Other than that lots of good info and well done.

I lived in Fairfield IA when I was a kid, before Maharishi Vedic City (pronounced VAY-dic, btw, not VEH-dic) was incorporated, from '93 to '97. My younger sister was born there. A couple of points from this perspective: - Technically speaking, not every resident meditated, because the kids didn't. There was a gradual training program for kids, starting with 'pre-meditation' in preschool, which was basically not talking for... 10 minutes, I think? And repeating a temporary, individual mantra in your head. At some age you're meant to be given your permanent individual mantra, but we moved away before I got mine. We (kids) were also not allowed in the domes. - Domes, plural. I remember there being two domes, so I'm not sure why there's just one now. They were gender-segregated. - I lived in a stationary trailer residential area called Utopia Park (lol), north of the MUM campus. I didn't notice a lot of architecture as a kid, but from my memory and comments from my parents, I believe the stationary trailers also had elements of vastu architecture. - In school (Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment), we were taught the teachings of Maharishi (I only remember "The world is as you are"), and I remember learning Sanskrit characters off of flashcards. My class was girls-only, and the uniform was a plain blue dress with a red or pink bow. The uniforms have changed since, just plaid now. Those shots are 3:20 really got to me -- I remember playing hide-and-seek around that hall below the stairs! - In addition to the ban on non-organic food, I'm fairly sure I didn't know anyone there who wasn't vegetarian. Iowa is big on soy bean production so it's a pretty easy place to be vegetarian. I'm still very pro-tofu even though I'm no longer vegetarian. People ate a lot of Indian food, rice and dahl was a staple. - They are 100% serious about that whole levitation thing. I don't believe it for a second but my dad still swears it was a thing that happened, even as he seems to have mixed feelings about the rest of the experience. - Regarding the cult issue -- I consider it a cult, just a relatively benign one, not really qualitatively much different from most organized religions in terms of societal pressure. My dad thinks it was a cult, my mum doesn't last time I checked. My father told me that my parents were pressured not to leave. I remember communicating openly to friends about our upcoming move and I wasn't discouraged from talking about it, though. It was just like "oh, we'll miss you so much". - I was hoping you would talk more about the Pandits, who were (are? I don't know what's going on now, you said something about 'up until a few years ago') abysmally treated. Which is particularly terrible given how much culture of Maharishi Vedic City is stolen from Hinduism and Indian culture. I wasn't aware of it at the time but found out later.

Buildings are "perfectly" aligned w/ nature (and your neighbor's back door). Art is everywhere, (especially if you're fond of Pink & Gold. And LOTS of it!). Hiking anywhere around Iowa during Springtime will get you deep into Nature - (up to your knees, in fact). If by "pretty white" you mean race, well, there was absolutely more South Asians there then in any other small, Mid-West town (but most of the rest were upper-middle class Coastals). Is Maharishi offering entrance into Vaikuntha Dhama or is there some limitation regarding the Spiritual side to all of this? Is Maharishi following akin to beliefs such as Buddhism or Jainism? Is your way encouraging the development & advancement of the mind & intelligence more than Spiritual Life? Seems like a nice idea to build sustainable and Vedic. There may be interests worldwide at least for this. I do not think vegetarianism was mentioned in the video? Is the diet just organic or is it also vegetarian to some extent? For those near him, Mahesh was simply IT, and an Absolute Authority over everything. He originally called it the "Spiritual Regeneration Movement" in 1957 - it was simply Re-Branded Hinduism. Then he later re-labled everything for Western Science (and greater sales & publicity) in the '70s. There is typically some mild expectation towards vegetarianism (except for those times in India when Mahesh may have had some young, female followers over for evening meals when chicken could be on the menu).

Then add a serious serving of dedication. For dopamine try velvet beans and a number of vegetarian foods are recommended. Also try gardening and hiking. Some years ago I decided to advocate some tolerance with those who are still having difficulty with strict vegetarian diet. If they have to - let them eat animals, aquatics, and insects ; but, not pork, and no grazing animals. There are some beliefs going back more than a thousand years that may differ regarding the eating of certain insects such as the ant. They call it "city" but it has no police or fire departments for becoming a actual "City" and a different zip code doesn't make it a City. I have lived in Fairfield Iowa for over 40 years.

The Beatles didn't stop partying after visiting the maharishi mahesh yogi, in fact, John wrote the song Sexy Sadie about him and he sings, "you'll get yours yet..." They didn't buy into it. Even George who did embrace the Hare Krishna movement had Srila Prabhupada as his guru, so it would be nice to do real research before all the assumptions and misinformation. All you need to see is a guy claiming to "levitate" as he bounces up and forward in a cross-legged position to realize there's some deluded weirdness going on reinforced by group behavior. Some people buy the trump lie and some people "levitate" but the truth is an entirely different experience. I suppose we all have our own version of reality.

Their Maharishi Vastu architecture principles seemed to be their answer to Feng Shui - sort of a Hindu re-marketing of East Asian trends in the West (just as Maharishi Ayurveda Health seemed their answer to the wider acceptance of Acupuncture/TCM). They drained all the little ponds and steams on campus that had the misfortune of being located on "the wrong side" of buildings, still leaving up some tiny "bridges to nowhere" about campus. Likewise, campus buildings and private homes in town had their cosmically misaligned front entries closed-off (some with "door is broken, please use side door" signs on them!). But, on the upside I suppose, the Town Square easily had the highest number of Eastern & Indian Restaurants per capita than any other town in the Western Hemisphere. (I don't know if they all accept the official, alternate "Raam" currency also distributed out there). For most who want to live there, it seems a congenial enough place - only the "true believers" and devotees seemed to approach dogmatism. But it must be pointed out that much of their published, "Scientific" Sociological and Neuroscience that backs their practices and philosophy has come under a good bit of fire and skepticism over the years. (IOW, Buyer beware - and yes, it CAN get expensive). And nope, no one was ever witnessed to have *truly* levitated around there - neither Mahesh himself, or the late, great magician Doug Henning.

Dead wrong. First and foremost, Feng shui is an ancient concept of India that influenced China. Acupuncture is an offshoot of Accupressure, which originated in India. "They drained all the little ponds and streams" Well people eradicated literally 100 times more forests, ponds etc for industrial purposes so your nitpick is irrelevant. If you are that hellbent about nature, let's stop all the functionalities of industries and let's see how you like it. "Cosmologically misaligned" No proof. So the claim is ignored. Also, you should provide evidence if you have any doubt in the scientific explanation of a scientist, then go ahead and provide a report to them on debunking thier claims. Well whether someone is levitating or not that doesn't change or impact anything.

@@phoenixj1299 Uh huh.... Believers in Fairfield were literally (and DECEPTIVELY) posting "Door Broken, use side door" signs on their, uh, " Sthapatya-ly wrong-facing direction" front doors (even the MIU Library rerouted users thru the mud to the emergency side exit).... and for what? WHAT?!?!? SUPERSTITION... pure & simple. Environmentally wise or not, "Industrial functionalities" DO have very practical, immediate, and quantifiable benefits. I'll happily await any, objective, 3rd-Party research confirmation (NOT more of the cooked-up, MIU kind) of the provable superiority of East or North facing entrances over Southern ones, or of all the benefits of senselessly draining away the habitats of the Campus wildlife (but I won't be holding my breath). And, while we're at it, please provide how purchasing expensive, Jyotisha-related gemstones or (undocumented) milk-soaked statue yagya punditry provides any quantifiable benefit to life (except to allay one's own instilled, fear-driven beliefs). When Mahesh passed over 20 years ago, he reportedly left his family one of the biggest fortunes of any comparable, uh, "contemporary spiritual movements" of recent times. Always annoyed me how Maharashi and his crew styled all this as just "science" and denied it is actually religion. (Hinduism) Also annoyed me that "the Maharishi" had an English (white) hippy mistress who he was attached to, to an asinine degree, like a child. I used to hang around a bit in Fairfield before they set up "Vedic City." Very interesting scene there. But when you have hundreds of Hindu "pundits" chanting and meditating there, you can no longer keep saying "It's not a religion." Maharishi started as a western type who continued to gradually discover his own country's Hinduism. So, after he discovered Vastu Shastra (Hindu Feng Shui) he started pressing that on his followers. There are TM-trained astrologers in Fairfield/Vedic City. They train in TM astrology courses and they are beholden to the TM organization. They can't step outside of their Vedic astrology bubble or they get in trouble with Big TM.

I'm a philosopher writing about time. Spontaneous generation. I don't sell my work. I don't want praise. The work does. Female understanding. Free. Maybe this was hidden. I reveal a lot but I don't think it's been illustrated by anyone else. Eg Wonder: Is the meaning of life really the meaning of centre? Is truth churning story all there is & nothing else? I know. It's quite simple & black & white for what so colourful isn't it. Do opposites really attract or is it that one churns out the other? God said all this was good didn't he? 📖✍️As there is no such thing as wrong as opposed to right but only less right, there is no such thing as dead as opposed to alive. A person whether their body still works or not is as alive as long as not reject life, or alive yet they do. The body is not significant in regards to death & neither is it's decomposition. Energy does not die. The better instrument of truth, the better instrument will had been born. Time is cyclical. Though we aren't born young, grow up, then die young in cyclical motion, it is not from birth life begins. The greater edges we be of what more important, & the greater edges of us they be ..the richer our story. Our body is just a temporary room, & so long as it exists, alive or not, it will be rich in richness of story. As history expands as does universe & we change beneath our noses as the story dictates, no two same moments the same, because regardless of that time is cyclical we move You may experience cyclical time where moments however long come full circle. In regards to life, we will move forward & back & forward to go forward, checkpoint to checkpoint we shuffle. This is how we & earth with us more beautiful every yesterday. As there is no such thing as wrong as opposed to right but only less right there is no such thing as dead as opposed to alive. You can come back from subjective death, because, at any one given moment you are both somewhat anew & somewhat excess else you hadn't been any this one same moment ago. We fly. Right this very moment sometimes together we're richer of story, & sometimes not as rich, but another this moment away you're going to be ok. So will we all with you. We are like a wing of a bird together. When a wing flaps the wing travels upwards & down 'in unison' with itself all at once & it's only the bird that notices it's going anywhere & that anything goes full circle & that life doesn't. The wing is programmed to age, but it's awareness isn't on age but on what it does. Every movement flows into a next & irrespective of that It cannot move but another does, it still does what it does. We each breathe singularly per our willingness to live, but also we do all at once together. ..It doesn't appear like anything has changed dramatically since 10 minutes ago. We see the sky is still blue, & that we still have two legs, & some of us still can't get out of spots because it is so easy to believe changes occur moment after moment & not that the story kaleidoscopes out from centre. That to every living thing they are the centre, disguises that centre is centre. Feathers may flutter about like unprecedented things happen, & the papillas that feathers grow from centre. Are wings like what flutter compared to the bird what be centre ..& like wings are we of varying different proportions moment to same moment some strong & others weak & then what otherwise & some being born & some dying to this extreme & that, & is the bird like the earth & like the papillas the seemingly unchanging. When we go back to check we'd done the right things whether & how we could have done better to go forward (like for example to check we had locked the door again upon trying to leave the house) ..well when the places we go are back to what to repair, does it really matter what it is we repair? .. because the sky is still going to be blue & we'll still have two legs, or however many we've always had not unprecedented? Fly. Like does it really matter where we go when not know we're going anywhere or not know we're not, when no point in time gone back to to get to live twice forward from be the same, as well as no point twice headed back from? *Wonders jokingly what would happen if we smacked the Kaleidoscope like a pinball machine? Would it be yesterday again? Might you have been a brunette all your life? Aren't kaleidoscopes meant to be tapped sometimes? I mean, God told Moses he shouldn't hit the rock, not not tap the kaleidoscope. Maybe it's centre to do it? maybe there'll be something better than chicken next this time around. (Definitely try for that lol! God? Can you do it? By writing, am I doing it? I know that wherever there's richness of story, there we will be. Lol. I know it's totally what you'd have thought too. You always speak really interesting things. You have such a talent for life. Anyway, things can only get better . We are bound to be more than what from our perspectives. No matter how interesting, I don't think we'll ever leave a place absolutely done with it. Maybe we don't have to wack the kaleidoscope. 🫂❤️☮️❤️🌕❤️🗺️❤️💞 *Wonders. If we are comparisons as much as the comparisons we draw & symmetrical so expansion had used deduction & this way fly, might we sing to be bigger than ourselves like butterflies use wings & be a song ourselves, vibrations, never gone? Oh how colourful can be black & white.✍️

Do other forms of meditation have similar effects?
@aardvarkansaw
@aardvarkansaw 4 жыл бұрын
@@OfftheCuff_Series Different meditation practices will have different effects and will show the differences when examined by the tools of science. Meditation has become a generic term, but in fact meditation techniques and their effects do differ. For instance from the outside many may think that mindfulness meditation and TM may sound similar, but in fact the two techniques are quite distinct and the practices of mindfulness are incompatible with TM. For instances, the very core of mindfulness meditation is putting one's attention on feeling one's breathing process. But conversely in TM one never puts one's attention on the breath or heartbeat etc. but it is rather a practice of the effortless use of a thought of a certain sound or mantra. The effect of the TM practice is that one settles into a very deep state of rest automatically. In TM the profound state of rest is very easy to examine scientifically--It is very easy to measure the breath and heart rate slowing down and at the same time blood flow increasing and stress markers in the blood chemistry reducing and that there is an increase in the coherence in the brainwaves--all of these things can be easily measured. A common analogy for TM is that it is like brushing the teeth: We brush our teeth and our teeth are clean and we do not have to go through the day always saying to ourselves: "I have brushed my teeth and my teeth are clean." In TM the effect is just there from the deep restful alertness that has been achieved, so we just go out and enjoy the effects that are now just built in to the nervous system.

Quite honestly, have you ever been around some the most dedicated TMers? Some of them were zoned-out or bliss-ninnys - even the other, more casual meditators would joke about them. It's was always attributed to "unstressing."
