I like what the school is trying to do but how can you have mandatory recycling? If somebody doesn't want to recycle it is there choice. I think everyone should recycle because it helps the environment but you can't force anybody to do it. Ridiculous!

I think this student should have gotten a warning instead of a detention for what he did especially considering he was a new student at the school who was only there for a few days. This is the kind of offense that warrants a warning for the 1st time a student engages in this kind of behavior and then a detention if this kind of behavior continues.

@policeeatdoughnuts Back when I worked, we had the recycling option available but not mandatory. To encourage people to recycle, our management would take the proceeds and do special things from time to time, like refreshments for the all-hands meetings. I almost ditched an all-hands meeting one time. I didn't know that I'd be getting a check for productivity improvements. I suspect they would have gone and found their too-dedicated employee.

I don't agree with the schools policy of YOU HAVE TO RECYCLE, but its hard for me to be on the kids side cause he has this attitude like he's better then everyone else, and is too good to bend over to pick up something.

I'm on the kids side, the teacher told him to get rid of it, so he threw it away. Recycling is optional, what matters is that he threw it away. I don't blame him, he did what he was supposed to.
