School buses run on diesel and can be heavy polluters, releasing harmful gases into the air while ferrying millions of children. Around the country, there's a push to switch the buses to electric options. Manuel Bojorquez has more.

Schoolbusses of this size don't have seatbelts because through years of testing it was found that they are safer without them. First, the schoolbus is bigger than most other vehicles on the road, so it would plow through most any impact, coming to a softer stop than other vehicles involved. And with so many children on the busses, each one wriggling like a worm, its found that keeping up with making sure they're all wearing their seatbelts results in many scenarios where the kids take the belts off when supervisors aren't looking. So the schoolbus manufacturers designed high-back seats with padding on all sides, designed to absorb the impact of a child hitting it. It causes less damage to a child to hit the back of the seat in front, than it does to have them strapped in. And then in times of emergency escape, like a bus sinking into a river or lake, trying to get 50 kindergarteners out of seatbelts is just not feasible.

Besides the fact that they're more expensive, cause far more pollution to manufacture, break down frequently, take longer and cost more to repair, have woefully limited range, and are horrendous fire hazards, of course. Yeah, those are some amazing "positive differences"!

Why do we need so many buses in the first place. That is the bigger issue/question we should be asking ourselves. If we hadn't created such a car-centric, sprawling, unwalkable, unbikeable, bad built butch body country this wouldn't be an issue.

Not every single School buses should be Electric, they should retain some of the Diesel School bus and used them for long haul field trip if your taking students to the beach or going up in the mountains otherwise electric bus should be used for picking up student and taking them to school as usual routine but you might get away using electric school bus on field trip on local such as the zoo, museum, and waterpark.

Even if this as approved today, it would take at least a decade to replace every ICE school bus in every state. The amount of school buses in Texas alone would be a major task

The days when drivers more educated I have seen drivers that are basically can't even read in English driving children can't read English can't read the signs can't even pass the driving test to driving test would be the most important to hire a driver 0:25

@@trevor8419 doctor good enough from Texas University patented solid-state rechargeable technology that promised to be three to five times as energy dense as the current technology and recharging in approximately 15% of the time, requiring only tiny traces of precious or semi-precious Metals using mostly sodium and silicon... and being highly stable not catching fire or exploding... that was practically a decade ago... Elon picked up doctor good enough and the patent and has made nothing but excuses and it is apparent that the occult is sitting on this benevolent technology... okay can I be any more specific and clear then that? I don't think we should be settling for Less... if we're going to revolutionize off forms of transportation we need those batteries now... Enough with this mediocrity

It is with lithium Ion batteries, Id wait until they start using solid state batteries otherwise bunch of the buses might blow up in the lots one by one like i've seen with the Nicola Trucks.
