It’s funny how when a girl is young they’re always like “she’s just using him for his money 😡” but not like “omg he’s taking advantage of this young girl in need of money 😡” like it’s a mutual exchange both parties benefit from this 😂

I studied FGM in uni in my Human Rights subject. As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) it is usually done to avoid girls from having sexual intercorse before marriage. Sometimes they even kinda like "sew" the lips together in order to only have the husband break the seal once they are married. It is a very painful experience that usually implies having infections, pain and difficulties to do thing like peeing. It's mostly religious reasons as well. Not really personal preference like Hailey said (not hate, just clarifying). We even had a woman speaker in our school who told us her experience with it. Truly horrifying.

I’ve heard of this before and it’s actually sick and inhumane. My God (Jesus) would not want to harm something he created. Her body parts…etc. I think it’s disgusting and no religion like this is a “good” religion. That’s literally torture.

Awesome explanation! To clarify, the most common type of FGM is actually the clitoridectomy, which is the partial or complete removal of the clitoris (so the term ‘female circumcision’ that is used in the video is misleading). As you explained, this is done to ensure that women don’t find sex pleasurable and avoid premarital sex as a result

As an Egyptian woman I would like to correct you concerning women circumcision in Egypt .. we do have laws against this heinous act and it does happen but mostly in rural areas here .. and there a lot of awareness campaigns to urge ignorant Egyptians to stop this act .. also it is a cultural practise in Egypt and many other African nations who r not particularly Muslims as it is totally against our Islamic religion .. it did happen and still happening but definitely not with the rate u r talking about

she said the year they banned it but in the sentence before that said like 90-somethinng percent of women have had some form of it? like please cite your sources, there's no way that is correct, just demographically there are too many people born around 2007 at this point for that to be even remotely accurate. I feel like she gets a lot of information incorrect in her videos which is unfortunate because she's a great storyteller.

FGM also happens in other African and Persian countries. The "purpose" is to prevent the female from ever experiencing sexual pleasure. The entire family is typically involved and the "procedure" is performed at home either by relative or other local women. Despite any laws, this practice is still far too common and laws dont reach in home mutilation. 😥

Yeah my twin sisters went on several mission trips [Chile, Africa, Haiti] and as their little sister I heard the unfortunate horrors of 3rd world countries, and with that, “female circumcision”. The tribes they visited in Haiti stated that's the exact reason why they performed these atrocities on literal children. So what? The idea being like spaying bitches, ultimately it will “calm them down”? 🙄 Then even more genius ensues by incestual r@ping them!?! It's beyond horrific and disgusting, it's utterly inconceivable.

@@thehillisalive sadly this topic doesn't get as much attention as it should. Women who have been harmed are embarrassed to talk about it and I think the rest of the world is uncomfortable discussing it. One aspect that I think is particularly horrifying is the young age that this happens. Also the tools used are primitive (ie: glass).

This is not hate-just a critique, but I’ve noticed in these videos you often get facts wrong whether it’s about the person, the crime, or some other miscellaneous things. While I know it is very difficult to do a lot of research for these stories, I hope that you would attempt to go above and beyond to portray the crimes and people as accurately as possible as these are real people, real crimes, real stigmas, and real stories that affect many people. Instances of some small examples are your facts about FGN and in a recent video a child was on 20mg of prozac which you said which is an extremely high dose, but it’s actually the lowest possible dosage for anyone to take. I’ve noticed many other things too. But yea I’m not trying to be a smart ass I just think if anyone is gonna tell true crime stories and profit off of it without contacting the families whenever possible, the story needs to be portrayed accurately.

Important comment and I think you said it well. Sometimes I’ll watch Hailey’s videos when I’ve already seen the crime/story from another KZfaqr and she does tend to get some details/perspectives wrong sometimes. Definitely important to research and triple check yourself in this genre. ❤

But 20mg of prozac is not the lowest possible dose for anyone to take. I was started on 10mg prozac as a teen then switched to 5mg as 10mg was too much for me. 20mg to start is average for an adult, so I imagine it would be less for a child. Upon further research, I found that it is advised to start a child on average 10mg Prozac. Its safer for psychiatrists to start the patient on a lower dose then work their way up if needed on medications like these.

FGM is often done out of religious purpose, it happens often in certain parts of Africa as well it’s done because it is believed that the women should not know what pleaser is and it’s supposed to stop young girls from doing the deed before marriage( I had to write a whole paper about this). also love the podcast and how you speak to the viewers like you’ve known us as friends.

Im from an African country that practices FGM, and it’s purely cultural. Thank you for shedding light on domestic violence victims. As a survivor myself, you explained it perfectly. Victims don't report or talk due to fear and shame. There are no witnesses because it happens when no one else is around. The abuser is calculating with every step of the abuse and is typically charming. That false personality is a tactic to catch victims and to portray them as a liar to all people around for future defense. Many times, DV doesn't come to light till something horrible happens. The victim knows these circumstances are the last chance to escape alive.

I was lucky enough that my ex was so dumb, he actually got the services involved in an attempt to get my kids taken away. They found nothing wrong with me but the FI lady was with me when he called me. When I ended the call she was almost grey. She told me to immediately call the NCDV, stop contact with him and my son and report every single incident to police, no matter how small. Within a week I had a family aid solicitor who secured me a non molestation without notice and he was arrested twice for harassment. The second arrest ended up going to court, where he was found guilty and I was awarded a restraining order and £500 comp. A year on and I’m still getting threats, although this time through a solicitor… but I have a catalogue of evidence Logged with police, CAFCASS deemed him unsuitable to be around my son and I have been offered a DV survivor group counselling session, as well as a high risk DV survivor worker and waiting for my personal counselling and therapy to go ahead. Moral of the story TELL SOMEONE!!!! It frustrates me when people spread the narrative that police will not help… that’s a dangerous thing to say ad hoc and will stop victims coming forward. Look into DV specific charity groups (for me it was womens aid, NCDV and SIDAS) and log every single incident with police. They may not be able to do something immediately, but you can log incidents with them without the abuser knowing. Please tell someone, get as much help snd as much evidence as you possibly can

My friends ex girlfriend was EXTREMELY controlling, and had a habit of just pouring hot liquids on him if he said something she didn’t like. One night she apparently lost it for no real reason, and just smashed him with a wooden table. She died chasing him in a wreck. Most people thought he was exaggerating the abuse or just flat out lying to get attention (He’s the quiet kid). Hell, one girl still insists he’s a misogynist to this DAY. Right now he’s doing good, and with this guy. Later, it turned out she was in her mid 20’s. He was 15 at the time. They met online.

I’m Sudanese by nationality, but I was born & raised in Alexandria, Egypt 2nd capital in Egypt, till I came to Australia, so this case really hits close to home. I know soooooo many horror stories from girls that lived in Sudan & Egypt that I know the true crime community couldn’t digest 😢 or Social content wouldn’t allow. So many girls, have been abused from close male family members, but told to be quite from the women as “they went though the same and survived” It’s actual BS, and we need to start speaking up so these disgusting men can be arrested and shamed!! Egypt still has not legalized martial rape, they only recently made rape illegal and for the women to speak up. There’s a few movies about it, as it’s a current issue.. If these disgusting men never touched us from the beginning, we might of had a chance, but it’s the men closest to us harming us 😢

i’m South Sudanese and if this ain’t the truth…….. i was the only one of my siblings born in Canada so i see the westernized world view and the cultural aspect and……. our people are very very stuck in their ways. the amount of conversations i’ve had with elders that always end in the same “we went through it, too” or “that’s our culture and it’s just how it is”. the girls and women are really suffering at the hands of men and patriarchy and just the lack of viewing women as human beings. (we’re still being bought for marriage… imagine). every man being an ‘uncle’ and inviting close relationships with young girls that just shouldn’t even be a thing… it’s all so sad.

Egypt just made rape illegal!!! There's a huge difference between something being illegal and the fact that many girls felt scared or ashamed to tell anyone. And that's the reason many girls never reported the abuse. Unfortunately, girls in Egypt need to remain virgins till they get married, and with rape the hymen is gone, which ridiculously would mean for most guys that the girl is trash because most probably she had been sleeping around. But thankfully, this misconception is changing now, and it mostly depends on the social class and educational level.

Wanted to preface this comment by saying that I love this style/vibe and appreciate the amount of work that goes into researching and creating these videos. I hope this doesn't come off as an attack or hate, because that's not what I intend. I watch a lot of true crime channels, and something that sticks out to me is the frequency with which details are misrepresented. I can appreciate how hard it is to weave a narrative and relay information, but when simple facts about a case (about the people involved, aspects, etc) are not related correctly, it's a little off putting from a viewership perspective. True crime is an interesting genre to enter because of the research/information available and how competitive it is. There are so many channels that produce similar content. When that content is not presented correctly, it may potentially drive viewers to other channels.

You’re my all time favourite true crime youtuber. I really appreciate how sensitively you handle these subjects and how you don’t dramatise the events by using scary music and sound effects. It seems that almost every other true crime podcaster/youtuber treats these cases as if they are some kind of ‘creepy pasta’ or fictional stories. I’d like to hear your opinion on the current situation with the new Jeffery Dahmer show. How do you feel about peoples reactions and the show’s existence in general? Personally I find it disturbing how many people are fangirling/fanboying/obsessing over the show.

Male circumcision isn't necessarily a bad thing if an *adult* male wants to do it since it offers little drawbacks. But doing it to newborns is absolutely unethical. It's an incredibly invasive, and graphic procedure and a lot of penile tissue is removed it's not a small amount. It's also completely unnecessary. Cutting off entire sections of someone's genitals that have a function before their old enough to understand what's happening. Not to mention that scarring from the procedure is very much prone to infection in the weeks right after. You can't just clean it normally you have to use medication and ointments to prevent infection for a couple weeks. Circumcision doesn't really make one's penis any more clean inherently as many would like to believe. It's the equivalent of shaving everyone's hair to avoid lice. Technically it's easier to clean a bald head and no lice would come but hair has a purpose and it's not right to remove everyone's hair follicles. It's become such a normalized practice in the U.S. and is seen as a standard of cleanliness but it's really not. Having a cheesy, smelly penis isn't the norm in countries that don't have circumcision as the norm (almost every other country). It's quite literally genital mutilation. There's no substantial benefit to it just people being like "certain types of diseases can get trapped under the foreskin so its" but they don't see that removing the foreskin exposes the entire urethra to all types of disease whereas a foreskin provides a barrier.

Hey Hailey! I love love love your videos, your podcast is amazing and I just wanted to tell you that you are one of a kind. Keep the work up and enjoy your day/night! 1 more tiny thing, can you make a video about "The Death of Elisa Lam" or "Cecil Hotel" (the hotel where she died). It's not true crime in a way but you can include it in your conspiracy videos. I would really love that if you do so! Again enjoy your week!

I think it’s best to not bring up things that you haven’t researched yet. Like bringing up a subject and being like “I’m not sure, I don’t know” kinda deflates the video. For example, bringing up the prison visits but not knowing the actual rules or circumstances.

Great story telling Hailey! - not sure why people have to hate on pronunciation mistakes. I am sure we all have words that we mispronounce on a regular basis. No need to make jokes out of it.
@tilsbug2635

i think it's a bit of an inside joke within her and her viewers that she struggles with pronunciation and often misuses phrases and words. It bugs people because if you're listening to someone talk for upwards of an hour it can be difficult to follow if names are being misused or words mispronounced. Its her channel and she can talk how she likes- its not fair to make fun of someone, and there's a difference between constructive critisism and just being rude: I can see why people find it offputting.

I hate how ready people are to be genuinely vicious over something as minor as mispronunciation 💀 it's something that can absolutely be abliest, even if someone doesn't have disorders that can cause words to get scanbled or they don't disclose it, it doesn't make it acceptable to perpetuate behaviour like that. I can't count how many times I've been ragged on because my adhd or autism makes my sentences a verbal trainwreck LMAO

i was reading comments and noticed some fair criticism. but i also wanted to point out that Hailey is quite young and are most likely self-taught in research. she has also made fun of her own pronunciation problems. hopefully she'll take these criticisms to heart and perhaps look into a class on research. overall though, it's pretty impressive the amount of research and other content this young woman has put out. just wanted to offer some praise on top of fair criticism.

I don’t think you can say she’s “self-taught” in research when all throughout elementary, middle, and high school in the US (which is where she’s from) we’re constantly taught how to conduct proper research, what sources are reliable vs unreliable, etc lol
