Random Orc:"Got ya!" They really put that sentence in the show, when the orc goes to attack the kid hiding in the well, an Orc saying that phrase, what a hell .... This series is suffering tremendously from not having Tolkien's words, sometimes they try to sound like Tolkien but sounds cringe like "There is a tempest in me" other times they wanna be funny and cool but sounds cringe as well like the examples above. They have none of Tolkien's elegancy and mastery of words but also sometimes they dont even try, they just use straight up modern sentences. I knew the dialogue would be bad, but I thought they would care a little bit to at least read some of Tolkien's inspirations, someone send them a copy of the Prose Edda or Icelandic Sagas because those writers need some inspiration, actually, send them a copy of the LOTR because I really dont think they even read that lol

One of the major factors this show is boring (aside from the pace) is the plot seems unfocused. If you watch HOTD, you can clearly see the path they're trying to achieve. You can see every episode and every scene working towards that path. With this show they're just throwing subplots against the wall and see what sticks.

@@Yagu83 No bc unlike this show, Jackson trilogy stayed true to the spirit of Tolkiens writings. Was there differences in the Jackson trilogy compared to the book? Yes of course. You can't adapt LOTR without condensing or changing certain things. But the key thing is those changes didn't take away from Tolkiens original vision. As Jackson said in an interview he made these movies for him (Tolkien). ROP is the exact opposite of that statement which is why I and many others reject it.

In his letters, he's specifically said that middle earth was not representative of issues in our world today. The writers of this show have said they wanted to put modern themes and politics into this show. Tolkien would have shit a brick seeing that. Specifically last episode where the guildmen were saying elves were coming to take away their jobs. This was clearly an allegory (and a badly written one) of the situation on our southern board. Also, the characters are completely unlike they are in Tolkiens lore. For example, Galadriel is not a warrior. She is a powerful sorceress and leader of her people. She is also several thousand years old and should understand how to talk to nobility without being thrown in jail. I know the show runners are saying she's young but that's actually not true. By this point in the second age, she should be approaching middle age bc elves mature into adults at about 100 years old. I could go on and on but for the interest of time basically as Alex said everyone is Sauron, everyone is Gandalf bc this is as far from Tolkiens vision as you can possibly get. They waited till Christopher died to do this bc if he didn't like Jackson's trilogy he definitely wouldn't have like this one.

She is absoutely a terribly written character. As for the sexism thing ^^ I mean Jon Snow did turn into a terrible character near the end :P I absoutely hate how they took a character most audiences know as a wise powerful mage and turned her into a naive stubborn child warrior. I mean the 50'ish year old human even gave her a "you remind me of my kids" speech, which makes absoutely no sense when you're talking to an elf who is older than the sun itself.

I Think it is the opposite, its completely counterproductive to try to fit it into book lore or whatever. Like it literally doesnt matter, its a different story, a parallel universe, different timeline. They arent adapting any specific story, and they dont have rights to The Silmarillion, and Alex is complaining about it not being like in The Silmarillion. Literally. It was never advertised to be that, and its clear its not going to be that since episode 1. Its a waste of this shows time to focus on this.

They could have easily thrown their budget on a sidestory set during the events of the main trilogy and it would have been fine. They would have had complete creative freedom with only a few rules/events in the books they would have to be wary of and build off of. Instead they set their story during another book without having the rights too it. Making it a complete minefield for an adaptation, likely to upset the fans. Amazons biggest mistake was making the Rings of Power in the first place. Like, the hubris in making your own "non-canon" series set during the events of a Tolkien book you don't own. And then throwing events and characters together, while not giving a damn about the source material. Then censoring negative reviews when they inevitably come flowing in, and throwing in a black dwarf so you can use her as a scapegoat for the negativity. I feel like it's wasted on you because you're actually trying to defend this insulting shite, but CyberPunk: Edgerunners is a fantastic sidestory prequel that Amazon could have made for LOTR. Some fairly irrelevant story prior to the events of the Fellowship of the Ring, introducing some of the characters and factions present, while also showing the world from a new lens. Visiting new places and adding new characters. It's a sidestory that enriches the original story from the games, and makes you want to play it with that new view on the world. While not doing anything that compromises on the world or characters that we saw in the original material. Rings of Power is a bastard child that should never have been made. Amazon was so preoccupied with whether or not they could, that they didn't stop to think if they should.

@@CdrRogue it's almost as if people try to hate it for "reasons" instead of looking at all the good stuff. It's keeps casual fans and hardcore ones guessing, it makes changes where changes are needed to transform it into a show that doesn't span the next 2000years and on top make it watchable, while keeping true to the themes of the source material. We are only a few episodes in and people are disappointed that it doesn't ramp up faster or cry that we haven't seen army's collide on a battlefield yet.
