Bought it. Got my copy today. Had to come back to this video to figure out what hymnal was referenced. I’m not an Anglican, but what I self style as a Prayer Book Methodist. Thanks for the video and all your book recommendations.

Wow! Once again, a video that is informational, edifying, and entertaining. I am pretty much stable using the AOB, AB, and 1928 BCP with KJV and Apocrypha. I do have the 2019 BCP and To be A Christian, but I use them very little. I also have two confessional Lutheran hymnals. So, I was thinking throughout most of the video that I will just continue with what I have. However, toward the end of the video, the idea came to me that this Saint Aelfric Customary might still be useful for me. I'm wired to the one year lectionary, but it seems like this customary would be adaptable to the resources I already own. Besides, I want these materials to become popular and become established. I will check out the website.

Philip, you’re wasting your time reading Christian books if you reject Christ as the Son of God who died on the cross for your sins. Whenever I see your comments, I just can’t understand why.

Kind of a random thought/question/pondering ramble... I have found myself, since coming to Christ, yearning more and more for simplicity in life and disconnecting with the artificial modernity and reconnecting with the "natural" (sounds kinda hippy but I guess an idea would be less of star wars and more wind in the willows). In this search my mind has seemed to make this connection with natural simplicity, and liturgy/prayer books. It is strange when going to baptist churches which have a more simple worship, there is a complexity to it. I don't know if its this channel or what that has made this connection in my brain or what. Have you noticed this? Granted some liturgies and kalendars get very complicated. But something about getting by the duck pond with matins makes more sense than bringing an evangelical study bible and devotional to it. Ramble ramble ramble....

Ah yes. The Wind in the Willows, The Compleat Angler, and the Psalms. I have visited the baptist churches here, and I found the people lovely, and one of the pastors, who had been an entertainer on a cruise ship before, can even play his guitar. But it's not worship. It's a lecture, usually not a very good lecture, sandwiched between entertainment. Good stuff perhaps for the stray unbeliever who may wander in, but not much food for growth.

@@dalecaldwell something seems so artificial about it. It is like a spiritual home owners association. Gotta keep your house painted, lawn mowed, bible memorized and doctrines regurgitated to fit with with everyone else. Like a hospital where no one wants to admit they are sick, yet we are all taking medication for some reason....

@@dalecaldwell also as a lifelong fisherman, I will now have to add the compleat angler to my library. I feel as if you have a calling for expanding the ownership of books....my librarian wife approves.

@@dalecaldwell also also, I recently read a statement, "The Psalms are the prayer book of the church." Do you agree? I have tended to view the psalms as a part of prayer books and bibles, rather than seeing them as a prayer book in itself. I might have missed a tree somewhere in these woods...

The good thing is the folks are still working in the tradition. I wish the AOB had the lessons in the KJV for 1928. Can’t have everything!

The cross on the book being considered is the Cross of Saint Cuthbert. If the wiki people are to be trusted, that is a different thing from the Canterbury Cross. For my own part, the variations on the Canterbury Cross that are used by the Anglican Church, the Ordinariate, and the Catholic Truth Society are very pleasing designs. Sadly for Saint Cuthbert, his Cross is (to my eyes) ugly. What may be part of the appeal is that some of the variants of the Canterbury Cross are perfectly circular in their outer boundary. The result feels inevitable. There is no feeling that it might be other than what you see. Saint Chad's Cross provokes the same feeling of satisfaction.
