How can you get fired in a MLM ?

The MLM I worked for mostly involved selling door-to-door, we had to drive for up to 3 hours to the location we were selling in. I got fired and replaced because there were only limited spaces in the cars - Most of us didn't drive cuz we were 18-20 and couldn't afford a car on the commission salary. As we were technically 'self-employed' I wasn't told "you're fired", just not to come in on Monday, as my manager wouldn't have given me a space in a car, so I couldn't work.

I never made myself dependable to others. I always focused on myself. Even by chosing my job. Of course, when I find a real pro, who knows his stuff I follow that person. Otherwise I find myself my own way. You could save up money and go by bus to another location. You don't need to follow the crowd. You can simply do it by yourself, on your own. And that is not only mlm. Even if you want to start your own business, at the end of the day you must be the leader and show commitment. But, it is indeed sad that the team left you behind. Pyramid schemes are illegal. Network marketing has been around for over 100 and is regulated by the direct selling association which is the equivalent of the financial conduct authority to banks. The idea of network marketing is that instead of paying corporations to sells products, the company pay distributors for doing just that. There are rules and regulations which all distributors should adhere to but unfortunately there are people are there who don’t abide by these rules, until they get caught out. You cannot be successful yourself unless you help other people be successful, this is where you train other people to do the same as you to make an income and the company pays you a thank you check for helping those become successful, this comes directly from the company. Much in the same way as corporations paying sales managers bonuses. Your other income is by selling products to your clients and making commission, the same as many sales people do. Network marketing companies don’t pay for advertisement, instead they use this money to pay the distributors a lucrative income. I hope that clears this up.

@White Man you need to remember that these people are isolated from their family and friends if they dont support them. By removing those people from your life the mlm counterparts become your closest confidants. You realise whats happening, the brainwashing, the isolation, the manipulation and they turn on you like snakes. The people you were manipulated into trusting are now your biggest enemy. And you have no one.

It's not a cult. To compare it to that is an insult to people who have made it out of cults. Look, not everybody is cut out to sell. You can't blame an entire company because you failed and don't have the strength and backbone to move forward.

Its the thousands of people who are understandably unhappy about their work situation and dream of making it alone, living life without a boss, having a flexible schedule, etc. There are many young people in these, many men and women, with our without families. I just watched a story about Lula Roe and they said Lula Roe was started by a mormon couple and that MLMs were huge in Utah.

Utah is the only state with an affinity fraud registry, it's like a sex offender registry, only for people convicted of affinity fraud. That's how common white collar crime is there...

I'm a Mormon who has lived in Utah for a couple of years now. It is SCARY how many MLM companies there are, but it makes sense as to why. MLMs largely target stay at home moms and with so many Mormon families here, it's easy to find a woman who's looking to make more money for their family. And because the church really encourages entrepreneurship and hard work, a lot of people fall victim to the idea that if they just work hard enough, they'll make that money. The people who are in the church, or claim they are, and start these companies are despicable. Thanks to more light being shed on MLMs through documentaries and r/antimlm, I hope we start to see a change.

Gracy Rù I think that just goes to show how desperate we are to make our family life work, not because we are naive. Most of these women that go into MLMs are mothers that can’t afford daycare so they go looking for ways to make money from home or something that gives them flexibility so they can put their kids first. It’s a sad reality that we get scammed by these MLMs out of desperation.

Me too. I personally never tried to recruit someone. People and family often asked me what I was doing, and I told them with honest. But always said that it is not easy, and that I don't want them to join until I know that I can make money or until I make real money just with customers. I liked the product, but it is to expensive. You need the fl triangle to get out the full potential. But, if you want to help an entire family with this product, the family must spend hundred of $/€ Not many families out there can spend so much money. And yes, the business model is not the best at all. Some companies have slightly better models. Kyanis is honestly the first one I never completely understood because it is so difficult, even those people who make already 5 figures could not explain to 100% how it works. They just knew that money comes in

Exactly, if the product had real market value, the company would sell it themselves. But they make more money selling the products to their own distributors rather than actual end customers. For them, a distributor is like a guaranteed consumer. And when they say "distributors don't have to buy inventory because they can just sell through the website" it is true, but then, the distributor pays for the right to that website. Another thing is, how can you sell a product you don't even know and haven't tried yourself? So what do they do? buy it for themselves so then they can tell people about it to appear more genuine. They also have to buy samples to send their customers. So in conclusion, the distributors don't have to keep inventory BUT have to pay for the website, have to meet a quota to remind active as a distributor, have to buy samples, have to buy the product to try it etc. The distributor is the actual customer.

@@heyjackieblue Except they don't give any money because guess what, the return on profit they make from distributors selling is WAY bigger than what the actual distributor ACTUALLY SELLING the product is getting (which is in 90% of the cases nothing).

@@heyjackieblue I took part in 2 MLM companies (Oriflame from Sweden and Forever from the US) I am now an independent social media marketer on MY OWN niche (3d modelling sculptors promoter) and if anything, these companies have taught me how to manipulate people into agreement. NOBODY loves a product. That is simply a dumb statement. Selling others products is a dunce behaviour and a loser mindset. Have fun trying to convince your cousin she really needs this other moist creme instead of that one.

And don't tell me the difference is that he can work from home, because ok you can call people from home but how are you going to close with them if you don't manipulate them with the usual dumb pseudo scientific experiments they teach you to perform? If anything, being an MLM distributor is harder.

@@heyjackieblue If you do the math, these companies are overall less beneficial in what they do. Look at the statistics. They pretend they help, but for the majority of people it's a money waste, a time waste and in some cases a social problem.

my mom was involved in amway. she's a very intelligent woman but when it comes to things like this she becomes weirdly gullible. its probably because she tries to always give everyone the benefit of the doubt. she isn't a malicious person, so its hard for her to imagine these charismatic salespeople as malicious individuals. whats funny is what was the last straw (and the eye-opener) for my mother. amway vaguely claimed at an event that sandra bullock was just one of many faces for their makeup brand. i looked it up; of course it was false. a bullshit pyramid scheme piece of trash company like amway could never book someone like sandra bullock to advertise their dogshit makeup. i showed my mom the evidence. she got angry with amway, left, and never looked back. thanks sandra.

@@HarekaTysiri honestly, getting my mother to open her eyes was quite the process. it took a good while to convince her of their deceit, although i couldn't put a timeframe on it if i tried. i'd say maybe six or seven in-depth conversations about pyramid schemes, and even then she wasn't entirely convinced. like i said, the whole sandra bullock thing was the last straw for her. the best thing to do is find credible sources (ironically enough, my mom was skeptical about where i got my information from, despite blindly following this enterprise) and present your friend with facts and statistics which prove the deceit. of course i don't know your friend, but my mom is very much a people-person, so one thing that helped was presenting her with reviews of amway from real customers and former employees (a.k.a. victims). i also showed her how difficult it really was to make any amount of money through amway, and how, even if one did manage to somehow make money, it wouldn't be very much. meanwhile they advertise that their employees will be making gazillions in no time.

Just be there for your friend when they hit rock bottom and are consumed by debt. That's what friends are for.

Lol Younique is based in Lehi, UT which is an hour away from Salt Lake. I drive by that building all the time on my way to work. For real tho, I swear Utah is a breeding ground for MLM's (Google it, its true!) because we have a higher population of stay at home moms (easy prey) who need to feel like "boss babes" and want to contribute financially somehow to their household, but sadly just flush their own money down the drain. Younique, Nu Skin,DoTerra, Young Living, Jamberry, etc all based here. It's so sad. I know so many friends/fam who get sucked into these. 😞
