Usually when people do water changes they fill the tank back up with slightly colder water and they get them to spawn, you will probably have better luck when you put them outside, good luck with them Chris.

Wow Chris. Such work and planning to get them to spawn. It seemed like what you were doing was working. Wish you could have just left them like that overnight. I was really hoping the moon light effect would have worked. I sure hope you can figure out the perfect combination. They sure were willing to try. 😅 Great video, really enjoyed watching. ❤

Awesome video Chris, I would definitely try doing a water change but lower the temperature, most fish prefer to breed during and after a large rain shower , it is more natural for them. Hope that helps mate. Gotta say they are stunning looking barbs you have there mate. Full view 😊

I think patience is the key. I have never actually tried to breed fish but with that said I have 3 different species that are breeding all on their own time. I have Sevrums, Uaru's and Empire Gudgeons all breeding. Let nature take it's course and they will do their thing in their time

I have had water changes trigger spawning, but never while draining the tank. Super interesting Chris, i hope you can get them to breed inside. Have you tried candlelight and guitar music?

That's the problem I was probably singing and that just made them mad. I do hope they breed inside instead of me having to drain the tank and take everything out to get to them

@@stubbsaquatics6080 I was reading about breeding them a bit, and the warmer water changes and lower water simulate the time just before monsoon season which is apparently when they breed in their natural habitat, so I bet they will! 🤞

The spawning trap looks good, we have never bred or even kept these but I in the UK these are double at least the price of Denison barbs so I suspect they are even harder to breed and may need hormones as you say yourself in your video bud! The thing that might get in the way of it working in the aquarium is you have a lot of live plants and they may preferer to spawn around these, again you said pretty much the same as I was typing lol! You may have better luck with them outside I guess but I would suspect they will need a fairly large pond to get them frisky?! Not much help but def interested to see if you manage it! Oh we also find we get more success in breeding if we have a single male and female(s) as the males attention is focused on the females rather than displaying to other males, not sure if that helps at all?!
@Aquadiction3 ай бұрын
Sorry for another comment, on reflection I would take a single male and biggest female and move them to their own aquarium with the breeding trap and no other plants, I THINK that's your best chance with these, all of the males attention will be on that one female rather than chasing multiple females and herd her into the mops! Put the trap at the very back, heavy feed the night before and observe at first light in the morning, Just my opinion bud!
@stubbsaquatics60803 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for your advice. I will look at that.. I will probably end up taking some of them outside in the summer. I had them conditioned with non stop Shrimp but can't keep that up lol. I am going to do a bit more studying them and others who have bred these guys

They are really nice fish. Do you think decreasing the male to female ratio woul help them spawn?
@stubbsaquatics60803 ай бұрын
I don't think so. They are similar to koi in that respect and how they breed. Plus I don't really want to disrupt the tank to move fish if I really don't have to
@mykoiobsession3 ай бұрын
Unfortunate that the barbs didn't spawn as hoped but if you decide to try again I would suggest that rather than lowering the water you turn down the lights, put on some Barry White and think twice about videoing it as the presence of the camera might make the fish uncomfortable. The last thing you want is KZfaq shutting down your channel for showing pornographic ,albeit fish, content. 🤣🤣🤣
@stubbsaquatics60803 ай бұрын
I tried playing Barry White , I think my wife was jealous or something calling my name over and over 🤣😂 I turned the lights down for almost a day I will try again one more time before summer. Maybe will keep the lights and the water low then increase water level each day like it was monsoon season.. who knows lol
