9:45 funny and relevant; my family and I all have pendants with my dad’s ashes in them that we always wear, and when my mom went to the bar for the first time after his passing, her friends had her meet a new friend, and they were like “she’s great at parties!” and he points right at my dad’s ashes and goes “oh I’ll bet she is, with a vial like that.” he thought it was coke. he was mortified when he was corrected and apologized profusely then avoided eye contact for the rest of the night. my mom thought it was hilarious.

eh thats nuffin, my stepdad turned a whole person into a necklace. we lived in an "artsy fartsy" area and had loads of "odd" customers and friends, we were "odd" ourselves, and had a jewelry store/workshop in the area at the time. he does glasswork, and makes many types of various jewelry, one day he was asked if he could make a "memorial pendant" for her husband, he had no clue what she meant, but took her up on it anyways, we needed the cash, later on she stops by his shop, with a 40 of old english, and an urn. long story short he was tasked by her, to drink the beer, and while doing so talk with her, and "earl" like he was there too, and use his ashes to make a glass pendant. he made a sick jellyfish pendant with glowing tentacles, and purposely made a cavity where its "head" should be, that he used "earl" to fill and finish off the design

People, in its peak, presume Tumblr as SJW central, but many of its users (especially people who weren't in aesthetic tumblr) remember it as the site with: -human pet guy (who migrated to Twitter, which is worse) -the girl that essentially asked for commissions for mental help without the PsyD/education necessary to actually become a therapist --the same girl had slaves (or a maid, but was a HUGE shitstorm) -the time where they tried to do all internet vigilantism but failed And this is off my head!

I really didn't care about the toe necklace since the person it belonged to gave their consent to it. But the little girl's skull thing disgusted me. @claritey
@claritey 2 жыл бұрын
@@yeahgirl11 The same way they preserve any biological specimen, usually its kept in a container with alcohol or formalin. But because my leg was badly infected they claimed they legally couldnt release it to me because the bacteria made it a biohazard. If I hadn't been near death and had the wherewithal to fight that policy I would have had to contact a funeral home and they would have taken possession of it for me and then either cremated or embalmed it so it could be buried. Although I am an atheist there are religions that believe that the body needs to have all its pieces buried together in order to be whole in the afterlife so there is a precedent for being able to keep/bury amputated body parts. When my mother had her gall bladder taken out she was given a glass jar with all her gall stones in it preserved in isopropyl alcohol, she didn't even have to ask for it.

Just to explain the "Why can't we keep our body parts that get amputated"-thing... Essentially, surgeons do not keep those for their own gains. Anything a surgeon takes out of a body has to go to pathology. They have to either make a diagnosis or confirm the existing diagnosis, so that the surgeon has on paper 'Yes, this body part should not be part of the body anymore, and the surgeon was right to remove it'. This does help to verify that, for example, the correct patient was being operated on. If you get your own body parts, you could go to a different pathology lab, make them say that that part shouldn't have been taken, and then you could sue the doctor. And, getting it back after pathology is not really possible either. The parts are cut up, some of it is just put into the solution again, some is put into wax, so they can cut it into extremely thin slices and look at that under the microscope. The rest in solution has to be stored for about a month in my country, the blocks of wax for up to 15 years. Just in case there is something else they need. And I guess it's cool having your whole toe, but having plucked apart pieces of the toe floating in a bloody solution is not that cool. The wax blocks are cool though.

There’s also a medical waste concern. Anything that is known to or could even possibly be contaminated with a human disease causing agent is a biohazard…regardless of the source. If a veterinarian gets an animal with rabies then all fluids, tissues and single-use items used on that pet are biohazards because there’s a chance that someone could cut themselves on the scalpel and contract it.

Do they ever explain why they don't want to give body parts back? I think it's pretty ridiculous that they think they can tell you what to do with your own body. I get it from a biohazard/ethical point (they probably often assume you're gonna put it on the black market or something), but as long as you're not hurting anyone I don't see why it matters to them. Unless they're the ones making money off of your body lol

Anything that’s contaminated (or could be contaminated) by a human communicable disease is considered a biohazard outright, if I remember right. Dog’s leg amputated after car accident? Not a biohazard. Body if a cow with Mad Cow? Biohazard, because if you handled it wrong you could catch something. HIV positive anything? Biohazard. Limb from someone who might have been exposed to hepatitis? Best treat it as biohazard.

It's consensual, she had her toe amputated for a good reason, and as weird as it seems she says it'll help her cope so why not? Weird does not equal unwholesome. Definitely weird though.
