This is an excellent explanation. Beyond the cartoonish exterior, the geopolitics in One Piece is very well-thought of by Oda. It's realistic as far as the conditions of the world/universe are concerned. Here's an idea that I thought of while watching this video: What if the WG actually deliberately suppressed the invention and development of flying machines? Similar to what happened in Attack on Titan.

I would guess Pluton, as it's described as a ship capable of wreaking massive damage and destruction. What better ship would be capable of this in a world full of pirate and navy ships other than a flying machine? That would actually be really cool if one of the ancient weapons was a flying machine that if found would lead to the other nations building their own.

Theory: The World Government (The Cipher Pol branch, most likely) actively hunts down and discourages / wipes out any and all attempts at creating flying machine technology in order to maintain their absolute geographical advantages. I actually wonder now if the series will ever get a character or an arc that includes those themes.

EDIT: **Looks at current manga chapters, detailing how Saturn is the biggest pile of shit to ever exist in all of fiction** Welp...this comment aged poorly. Why do I get the feeling that The Gorusei themselves are not the bad guys? Every time we've seen them, it honestly looks like they're just a group of guys trying their best to do their job. What if they're not trying to control the world, but protect it instead? We know that there are 3 legendary, world ending weapons, yet, we only know what 2 of them are: Pluton (a massive warship that can only be beaten by another Pluton), Poseidon (a mermaid capable of controlling the Sea Kings), and Uranos. We have been given absolutely ZERO details as to what Uranos is besides its name. So, here is a theory of mine: The Celestial Dragons are the only people capable of activating Uranos. This is why they are allowed to do whatever they damn well please, because they could easily end the world. However, it seems as if they have forgotten exactly what kind of power they wield. The Gorusei are aware of this, but are not 100% sure that all of The Dragons have forgotten, so, they follow the orders of the Dragons to ensure that Uranos is not activated. We've all seen how cruel the Dragons are, and I'm sure the Gorusei have to. Thus, if they are to activate Uranos, no one will survive. However, on the off chance that the Dragons HAVE completely forgotten of their capabilities, the Gorusei have, to their regret, outlawed the study of the history of the world, not to remain in power, but to keep the Dragons from potentially being reminded of their capabilities. Of course, this is a theory based off of some pretty minor evidence. But, if I'm right, that makes Vivi's position in the story that much more important, for she will have the capability to control Uranos.

You know how World Government flag has 4 dots connected to 1 dot in the middle, maybe it is symbolizing 4 red poneglyphs and Raftels ?

Lately, especially with the reverie, I finally understand the depth of the world government. So much power. And in turn, Luffy declaring war on the WG seems to have so much more weight now.

Germa 66 was capable of taking over an entire sea maybe it is for that feat that they were seen as mythical since having control of an enitre sea seemed so absurd. Enel had a flying machine the Arc Maxim and the Germa have the raid suits that allow for flight.

I don't have time to find the time stamp, but I am so glad Tekking explained why the world nobles are still needed, and even why royal families and bloodlines are followed through out history and today. Like, I've tried to comprehend how being a child or descendant of a ruler has any qualification for power, but from this video I have a bigger grasp of it now.

I usually don't comment, but I think I had to for this. I really like the explanation of the branches of government and the overall power structure and the philosophy behind the government's institutions. I have been aware that there is a complex world underlying one piece, but when it's viewed like this I can really get a grasp on the politics and really get down to why things are the way they are. For example, the fact that the geography of One Piece is islands, and how that allows for a government to stabilize and hold power for centuries, ya know I never thought of that but it's spot on. Honestly this whole analysis is pretty fucking brilliant, especially the angle from which you are breaking down concepts. I mean, honestly I don't see that many steps between the politics we are seeing here, vs the politics we are seeing right now in the world as we speak. There are a lot of parallels and connection (not exact parallels, but a general structure that mirrors the balances of power). I think you got a got eye for these politics. I already know I'm going to think about The division of power between Marines, Intelligence, and Warlords, and how that parallels the three branches of american government. It's just really goddamn interesting. Kudos young scholar.

if Doflamingo was smart he wouldve had Pica assimilate the red line and make a passageway through there, or hell he could even lay the foundation of a town. Then he could use it for whatever he wanted, and charge people to pass through. Seems like a great plan to get ahead in the one piece world to me.

Tekking, There were plenty of royalty in the past that governed. For future reference the World Nobles can be thought of as the collective Head of State, the ceremonial leader, or symbolic leader. Of course the WN, can rule directly, they are just too lazy 99% of the time. The Gorosei would be the Head of Government.

watching this i had a thought, What if the original reason why the world nobles wear those bubble contraptions is to deal with the thinner air atop the red line(given it's altitude), it makes sense because it seams as if the world nobles of the current era in one piece are just spoiled brats who never got told no,and come up with all manner of reasons for there "greatness"(like not wanting to breath the same air as "peasants") Agree or disagree?
