I'm not sure if you know, but it's technically not really even a wine, it's a "mistella". Literally just fruit juice with ethanol and caffeine added. Probably why there is such a pronounced burn. It's made in the same way as communion wine.

Its reputation is notorious, its biggest customer base in UK is Glasgow. They have tried restricting it's sales in Scotland as the police know if the locals have had a good night by the amount of bottles they see on the street. Unscientific but true: My maternal grandmother drank a small amount daily as tonic. She lived to be 84yrs.... This is my absolute favorite wine although I haven't had it in years because it's not sold in US stores. It's not meant to be consumed by the wine glass full/bottle in one event. It's perfect for the palate in shot glass or liqueur size glass.

You need to chill it, drink it out the bottle & once you're past the neck it's bliss! You get a much better buzz than when drinking beer, just be brave and get past the neck mate!!

Hello from the US! I'd read about this stuff, unfortunately it's illegal in the United States because alcoholic beverages containing caffeine are banned. We have a fruity malt liquor drink called "FOUR LOKO" with a similar reputation. It came in 500 ml cans and had the same amount of alcohol as 4 shots of vodka, and the same amount of caffeine as 4 cups of coffee (hence the name Four Loko). It got banned because people got heart attacks from drinking the whole can, but like you said people drank it on street corners and in college dorm rooms.

I have recently tried Buckfast tonic wine and I thought it tasted like a very sweet sherry I felt quite intoxicated from my very first sip still I quite liked it and I thought it would go down well at Christmas.

I've had 2 bottles of it so far. Weeks apart I have to add. I think the only really down side is I find it very heavy. Very much like port. I couldn't drink several glasses in a night. But a couple of small glasses I think is fine. Personally I like it. Its only the price that puts me off. I live in South Yorkshire and pay £8. odd. Which to me is quite expensive. But yes. I'll be getting another another one soon.

We don't have it in Canada-there's a lot of restrictions about caffeine in alcoholic beverages, so I'm not shocked. If you get a bomb-style shot most bars won't even drop it in for legal reasons, and so from their perspective are just selling you some energy drink and some alcohol with no way of telling what you'll do with it. But yeah the local version of fight juice is a 50/50 split of rye and red bull. Bad times for all involved.

It's massive in N.Ireland/Rep of Ireland and Scotland of course. People usually grow out of it in their early 20s but many 'reasonably respectable' people drink it further into adulthood. Very poor reputation in general however. Sadly, in Ireland, many call it 'a bottle of beat the wife'.
