The other naturally terrrifying thing about furbies is how durable they are. A child had no chance against one. Try ripping the fur off to get at the meachanisms? The fur is extremely durable and riveted to the animatronics. Gum up the gears with metal or play doh? No chance; The thing will still talk and attempt to move best it can. Take out the batteries? Only if you have an adult, or you magically find a star-head screwdriver that's small enough - and that's also assuming the Furby actually turns off when no longer powered, which these stories prove it can still function on residual power. I remember getting a furby for Christmas one year, I loved it. Like 2-3 years later, I thought it was just super creepy at this point because the motion sensor seemed to react more to absolute stillness over movement. Then one night I went over to my cousin's house (like a 30-45 minute drive on the highway) and left furby at home, my grandmother thought it was a mistake and brought it in secret. I found a Furbish-English dictionary, and this is what I felt: It looks like a dictionary of a real language from a place where most common priorities in people's lives are entirely different, but at the same time they have major English influence, like in the case of Japanglish. But also, this language is really alien to English and all European, Asian and any other languages of Earth. Might be late and unrelated but still thought I'd share. I used to have this talking Scooby-Doo toy as a kid who was meant to say "Rehehehe!! I'm Scooby!" when you pressed a button under his felt on his chest. There was a small toy that came with it and you were supposed to find "ghosts" (completely imaginative). One day my Scooby fell from my shelf and hit its speaker directly on the corner of my desk. From that day on, any time you pointed the extra toy and "found a ghost", instead of Scooby saying "Ruh-Roh", he'd wail at the pitch of a middle aged man.

So many of these stories are physically impossible given how the things are made and programmed. However stories about them doing things like that are common enough that I'm starting to think they're unintentionally perfect vessels for becoming a talking skull.

One of my middle school teachers owned a furby. He said that after a while, it quit working. A few days later, however, it woke up around midnight and started begging to be played with. He and his brother obviously wanted the quickest solution to the problem, so they ripped the batteries out of it. Furbies must somehow have a good bit of residual charge, because it kept at it for two hours. They got so frustrated that they grabbed it, went outside and through it onto the street in front of their house. Inevitably it was crushed by oncoming traffic, but it was still talking by the next morning, despite being completely pulverized.

This is nice to know that I haven't been alone in all of this. My furbie terrified me, and so I would hide it in my dresser. One night, it just randomly turned on and it was angry. HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY BATTERIES.

If I’m tech savvy enough, I want to get one of those deluxe Bill Cipher toys with a voice box, so I can take it out and put one inside the Furby I get with the most malice. So then I’ll just have a cursed furby with Bill Ciphers voice and personality. Appropriately refurbished to match the look, it’ll be a big project if I ever get around to it.

I didn’t have a Furby when I was younger, but something similar. I forget what it was called, but it was some kind of rubber alien that would interact with you in a similar way. It had antennas, a screen face, and it came in different colours. I had a pink one. Every so often, it would suddenly turn on and start talking in the middle of the night. I remember sitting up in my bed staring at it from across the room as it was blabbing away at the wall. I still cant get over this. I had one once as a kid, absolutely loved him, named him fluffles, and even had him sleep next to my bed facing my doorway like normal. Then... One night around 2am i HEARD it say: "Go Away, you aren't welcome here, leave her alone!" In a voice not its own! So naturally i woke to investigate, found nothing and remembered....i had turned my Furby off before bed!

Furbys are surprisingly fragile, especially the OG ones, so dropping it is a sure fire way to fuck it up. A less damaging and unpermanent way to screw one up is to give it low batteries. The only issue I have had with these guys is my Furby Boom waking up for no reason. These guys are really attentive because they might need to wake up at any moment. That is one of the reasons why their batteries drain so quickly. My boom was crazy sensitive, but my sister's was the opposite. You could dropkick that shit into a wall and it would be fine with it. Just walking around with mine in my hands would wake it up. I still have em both, and they are in fairly good condition.

i once had a hatchimal toy, which were like furbys but slightly less cursed. they worked pretty much the same way. all was well and good until it fell off its perch in my nightstand one too many times. it started repeating ‘oCcUlTtTtT’ in its raspy animatronic voice, but it would progressively get slower and deeper leaving a young me traumatized. the only good thing about it at the time was that me and my cousins would prank the eldest cousin every time they visited. this fun devolved into horror as it went from saying occult in its weird way to spitting straight death threats because its betteries had worn so it’s normal dialogue stopped playing properly. it is now safe in the depths of my nightmares (and bedside drawer) and it still haunts me to this day

My old furby was actually oddly sweet? They didn’t ever really do anything weird, but my mom convinced me that it was secretly evil as a joke. Little me's brain translated that into “this thing is going to kill me” So I was scared of a relatively sweet furby who the worst thing I can remember them doing was waking up at the asscrack of dawn and singing. I miss the little demon.

My furby story- Trigger warnings- psychotic children’s toys When I was about five or six, I was in and out of hospitals a lot because I had asthma but it was bad to the point if I fell asleep I could have stopped breathing at any moment. So during this time I was in my dads office (he worked in the hospital as an IT manager) and he downloaded the furby app on my IPad. For the next seven weeks I slowly accumulated about 150 furbies. This is where it gets funny cause I kept getting told when I logged in my furbies were dying of malnutrition cause I wasn’t remembering to feed them, I turned on notifications. That lasted all of four days before notifications started at two in the morning and my parents had a screaming and slightly traumatised child on their hands. We deleted the app and that was over with until two weeks ago I re-downloaded it for old times sake and to see if at fifteen I was now able to face the furbies. I wasn’t nearly a decade of notifications started popping up in my gmail we no longer have the furby app and should I ever have children I will never subject them to this torment. My friend gave me a furby party rocker in elementary school and I loved it. Eventually though, it started waking up in middle of the night to talk and dance. I gave it to my parents cause I got scared and it annoyed them to the point that they locked it in one of their dresser drawers. It still woke up in the middle of the night, but was now muffled and you could hear it rattling around in there.
