GM 2.4 Ecotec Camshaft Position Sensor - How To Test & Replace

In this video we go through the process of diagnosing the problem with my car via an OBDII scanner, testing the probable Camshaft Position Sensor failure and replacing the part. My vehicle is a 2012 GMC Terrain but the process should be essentially the same on any 2.4 Ecotec engine.

Tools Needed:
Ratchet w/ Extension
8mm socket
10mm socket
Pliers / channel locks
Slotted / flat screwdriver
ODBII scanner (if you want to check your engine codes)
Multimeter (if you want to test the camshaft position sensor)

Thank you SO much. I could hardy sleep last night worrying about what the problem was. Went to auto zone and got it read and mine was the intake. Watched your video and got it done. Not sure if you check old posts, but I have a 2011 Chevy Equinox and I just had to replace these, instead of taking it to a shop "440.00" I was able to buy the parts "29.99 on amazon" and fix it myself within 45 min. thanks so much man <3

Thank you for video. I replaced my intake one in Sept. 2018, with your help from this video. My check engine light came back on now and it is the same thing. Last time just replaced the intake. This time I'm going to do both. As soon as that code came and how my car was acting I knew I had to come back to your video. Thank you so much!!

Thank you for this video! Had my sensor replaced by the shop (p0014) a year ago and it was covered under my Warrenty. It was roughly 600.00 bucks that I didn’t have to pay for due to the Warrenty but just a few days ago my engine light turned on again and according to OnStar it’s the same exact issue (p0014) if the part isn’t covered under their parts Warrenty than I’m going to do it myself. Thanks again!

What a good video man. Amen to your last rant. I do all my mechanic work, my wife and i have 4 vehicles and you cloud just imagine what I’d spend just in cutting rotors and break pads, oil change. Not to mention other more expensive stuff. PEOPLE PLEASE MAKE YOUR BEST EFFORT TO DO YOUR OWN MECHANIC WORK. This job seriously is a walk in the park. Again thanks for the video.

I need to add it’s because of you I am getting new pistons and rings after six months of a consumption test and waiting for an available tech. There wasn’t a recall issued for Canadian models even though they have the same problem
