So I have 2 points I really want The Theorizer to ponder on that I have discovered about Coraline that he has *not yet* mentioned : 1) How does the beldam know about Coraline's friends in Michigan? When Coraline visits the other world for the first time and she goes into her bedroom for this first time (in the other world) there is a photograph with Coraline's old friends that can TALK AND MOVE in the picture. Considering the beldam must have created that, how did she know what they looked *and* sounded like ? Coraline says nothing about a change in their appearance or voice, so it is safe to assume that the picture is identical to the real people. They also call her "Loper" which is a legitimate nickname they gave her, but how did the beldam know about this ? 2) Wybie's grandmother: Wybie's grandmother is quite an important character as she A. Owns the pink palace B. Lost her sister to the beldam as children C. Is a relative to Wybie Now, my point is *ALWAYS* when Wybie talks to Coraline and he starts to talk about the pink palace / danger or the grandma's sister, we always hear her interrupt the conversation by calling for him and sometimes ring a bell. When she calls him, she sounds worried and desperate to get him back home. I also believe her timings for calling Wybie home aren't just conveniant, as in she desperately wants to hide the secrets of the other world and her missing sister too . I have come to dead ends with my points though but I feel that they have a lot of potential and I would be super happy if you could ponder on my points or even expand and include them into a theory. It's make sense that she is part spider. Spiders produce silk(?) to make their webs. So, I know this might be a bit confusing because I suck at explanations, but she makes dolls, she has needles as fingers and button eyes, not to forget she is part spider. So it ties into her as being a creater. A spider's web is a spider's home. So the other world is like her web where she can trap her prey.

Before I watched this I watched another video saying “ that Coraline didn’t actually escape, it said that she had made it really clear she wouldn’t have button eyes ever, so when the other Wybie takes his glove off to show coraline he can’t go with her and blows and his hand like falls out, It said “what if it was the mother’s trick” to make coraline feel like she had escaped when really the bell dam only made a different version of the real world. Ok so, I had read the comic version of the book and watched the movie. I have a theory sort of based off yours. What if that the second portal is a symbol of Coraline going to sleep, and the beldam can actually control her dreams and manipulate her, like a dream dimension. I say this because she always comes back to the real world when she's waking, which doesn't make any sense because she went through a portal. It's just a theory I gathered from watching all the videos up to here. I usually don't ask for likes but please like this so he can see this!

I think I know how the other mother knew to get Coraline the new clothes. When Coraline is shopping with her mother, asking for the gloves, you can see a woman with orange hair stood outside watching them and smiling when Coraline says 'my other mother would get them.' Maybe, she is the other mother's spy or maybe, the other mother does have the ability to go to the real world as long as she takes the form of a person who already lives there. Maybe this would explain how she knew Coraline moved into the apartment in the first place, there was a moving guy at the beginning who would've saw Coraline, maybe he had something to do with it?

I've never read the book and haven't watched this in a while but I always assumed the Beldam was a witch before she went to the other world. The cat said hes been going their for awhile and that she hates cats. I think when the bedlam was alive he maybe served her (as slavery wasn't abolished at that time) and African Americans were often associated with voodoo. She also uses dolls. And heals Coraline's hand. Maybe the cat tricked her into that world as witches usually seek immortality. Witches also like to gamble. On the spiders note. They weave webs like she weaved this world, the dolls, the buttons also they are associated with catching their prey. Which is what she spends a long time trying to do.

Also the parents were NOT taken. It was just a trick to make Coraline go back to the other world

i’ve always had this question in my head, in the real world, and Coraline asks her mother to open the door/portal thing, how did her real mother know that the button key was the right one for that door?

Woah. Okay, so I just realized that Plastic Buttons, the ones that the Beldam uses along with trying to make Coraline sew them into her eyes, were first ever prdouced in the 1920s. Seem familiar? Thats around the time the pioneer girl was taken by the Beldam. Now, what if one of the reasons that the first boy, the cat, was able to escape was that the material of the buttons before plastic was made up of different materials?

What if Coraline's mother is the other mother. When Coraline asks to see what's behind the door, her mother knows exactly where to find the key, and what it looks like, the real life mother also makes coraline's life really bad not giving her what she wants, and not feeding her very well, this all leads to the audience thinking that she shouldn't be a mother in the first place. So this leads me to believe that Coraline's mother had a kid, because she needed to eat, and if she can control the real world, this would conclude why the grandmother let her live there, even though the grandmother didn't want any kids to live because she knew what would happen, so the mother mind controlled her. Also wybie (sorry if I'm spelling that wrong) is the grandson of the grandmother who knew too much, and then I remembered that when Coraline goes to the other world wybie's mouth is sewed shut, this was probably because the mother knew that he knew too much, so when she created the world for Coraline, she did this so he wouldn't tell Coraline what was going on.

I came up with the theory that the Beldam is making Coraline hallucinate. That is why she goes into the portal because she isn’t in the right state of mind. To support the theory, the other mom has button eyes, and Coraline doesn’t freak out because of that. Her influence is to strong. That is the way Beldam gets the children’s souls.

Please help me! Okay, so at the middle of the film, why would the other mother get mad and put Coraline through the wall where the ghost children are? Doesn't she know that that the ghost children could tell her where the eyes are and once Coraline finds them, the Beldam starts to die. When Coraline finds the ghost eyes, the other world starts to die and same with the Beldam. But, when Coraline got the triangle thing to look at "bad" things in the other world, would've the Beldam knew she got that because Coraline has the doll and the Beldam uses that to look at Coraline. Please answer and like to he can see this comment.

I watched coraline when I was like 8 which was a long time but when I watched it last year I was thinking when the other mother Taps her fingers on the table could that have symbolized how many children she killed by taking there souls just a thought

i know i'm late, but if you really think about it, isn't the other world basically inside of her mother's favorite snow globe? you know that one snow globe that almost every person (not in coraline, real life here) has that has that tune that plays that one song that goes "it's a small world, after all" or whatever? well, that explains part of it. whenever coraline is trying to see the well in the other world, the cat catches up to her. she asks why she can't walk to the well and cat says that it's a walk around the world. coraline then answers with "small world." and continues to walk towards the house. and, whenever her parents are gone, it's all snowy, JUST like in the snowglobe. whenever she is trying to find her parents in the other world, they actually aren't there, meaning they had maybe gone somewhere without telling coraline and, as you said, maybe the other mother had tricked her. when coraline crawls out of the door to the other world and enters the real world again, she's crawling towards the fireplace. and, when she reaches it, the snow globe is broken, meaning that her mother and father had "escaped" from an unknown place, and breaking the curse or whatever. i dunno, just mine and my friend's thoughts.

could the key be one of the Beldam's eyes? Hear me out. My theory is that the void needs a soul to sustain itself, so it lored the Beldam and took her soul, which is why she has button eyes, you know that though. But here's the theory, additionally that the key is the needle sewing two realities, the key's button is the Beldam's eye. The Beldam is an accomplice to the void, just as the Beldam can choose her victims, the void chose the Beldam. The void can clearly lore adults and would easily lore children but it chooses to have an ambassador because it trusts the Beldam and her decisions. Just as the Beldam needed the attention of children and "die of boredom" the void will too. The void is toying with the Beldam on a large scale like the Beldam toys with children and so the key is made by the void and not the Beldam and it's like a security check with who's able to enter. Only the Beldam's soul is truly trusted by the void, so the key is part her soul which enable the void to reveal itself to the Beldam's soul presence. The button has a larger meaning than symbolism, it is literally a functional key with part the Beldam to access the void.

So let's say that the Beldam didn't die. Remember that scene when Coraline Tied the key to the blanket with the hand? They threw the blanket in the well (the portal) to the other world. Won't the Beldam get the key back? Are the Angel Kids right? Is Coraline still in danger? Will the Beldam get her?

This also makes me think that Grandma Lovet is psychic. She doesn’t see well at all yet somehow she calls Wybie to come home every time Coraline is around. Almost like she knows Coraline is in danger and she doesn’t want him anywhere near her. Also in the beginning of the movie you see the Beldam clearing cobwebs from her sewing supplies, which makes it seem like she hasn’t used it in a long time. So it ties in when you said she is trying to protect Wybie from the Beldam. How could she possibly know that the next tenants are going to bring a child?

Okay so I'm going to add a little thought I had even though it's late: so the fairy mushroom ring? Well, my obsession with fairies will help me here. So fairy rings are portals, that's covered, but in stories, if you enter the fairy realm with a circle of mushrooms you cannot eat or drink anything as that binds you to the world and you'll be trapped there forever, unable to leave. Now I haven't watched the movie for a while but I believe Coroline ate some of the food there and is now bound there. The other mother can control this world, molding it like clay. What if Coroline is still in that world. The other mother obviously has a lot of experience, she could probably anticipate Coroline's actions. What I think is that coroline is still in that world and is unable to leave because of the food she ate. Another thing about the fairy realm, is that time passes much differently and you could be in the realm for a millisecond and a thousand years have passed in the real world, or it may be the other way around. I'm not sure how that ties into it but I hope this is somewhat good

How about instead of the Beldam having control of the real world she takes control of The Pink Palace, which in itself is a paradox which has her pocket universe, and those who inhabit it. Controlling them as if they were... Dolls. When you enter the house (preferably naive children) she is able to change the things around you and manipulate your surroundings and life to make children fall in love with her. Like a game with dolls. And the only way to win is to escape and to not fall into her trap. You break the curse/paradox and your life goes normal although everything that had happened was real it was just in a paradox/pocket universe. This is probably completely wrong but I'll comment anyway. The beldam is coraline. It would make sense because they look so alike. This is the beldam trying to stay young. By trapping her younger self in the other world this means she can stay young. She can also travel between both worlds. The reason coraline doesn't want to go to the other world is because inside she knows she will be trapped whereas the beldam thinks she will be easily manipulated by herself. Also by bringing herself into the world she can use her younger self to play with the children. Also coraline is a reincarnation of the beldam even though she isn't dead. The other mother has disappeared from the real world so she was reincarnated

To prove that the portal to the other world is also the well, in the scene where Wibourne and Coraline are being attacked by the hand, when Wibourne falls into the well, the hand tried to get him to fall down by poking off his fingers. But if that's true then I wonder what she would plan to do with Wibby once she got him to fall in.

I have a few things.. First, I find myself asking about Wybie's grandmother. I like and can see the reason she did let Coraline's family into the Pink Palace as a way to save her grandson. It's kind of underhanded of her, but she already lost her sister, and she seems to know about the Other Mother. Her sister had probably told her the stories before she disappeared, much like how Coraline told her parents at first. So she did it to save Wybie. But then, i was wondering to myself, why would she be mad that Wybie took the doll? Didn't she want to sacrifice Coraline in order to save him? Then I realized. She isn't a mean old lady. she's friendly and kind. So, while she does what she thinks she has to do to protect him, she isn't heartless. She knows the doll has something big to do with what happened to her sister--a doll that looked exactly like her sister? kind of creepy. so, when it disappeared on her, she must have known it likely had taken on Coraline's image, and it was beginning all over again. She wanted to distract the Beldam, but not just hand over another child. She wanted to keep that one tool of the Beldam's away from Coraline, to hinder, and perhaps stop the Beldam from ever tempting Coraline through the tiny door portal, hoping that the Beldam would be focusing on Coraline but unable to actually get to her. But when Wybie took the doll and gave it to Coraline, her plans to help protect Coraline was dashed, and that's why she freaked out, wanting him to get it back for her. Second, I don't believe that she's related to the cat. I'm not sold on the cat ever being human before,, weather he's related to grandma or not. However, I do think there is something about him. He does seem older than his assumed cat years, so I wonder if maybe he was a cat around when the Beldam was a normal human. Maybe a mangy stray she hated hanging around. And when she got involved with the other demention or whatever, some f the magic affected him as well, and has kept him alive all these many years. Thats why he can talk in the other world, though because he obviously didnt sew buttons over his eyes and create that connection and need of staying in the other world, he can still come and go as he wishes. Third, I'm pretty sure that there are two sets of mice. the real mice, and the other mice. She created her mice to go and act as spies, but Bobinsky's mice are not in on the Beldam's plot at all. They just know. They probably found mini portals as well and have spied on the other mother. that's why they send a warning to Coraline not to go through the little door. Because if they were the same mice the Beldam made, then they wouldn't warn her at all. The other mice, the other dogs, and the other neighbors are the only ones loyal to the Other Mother. Even in the end the other mice prove their loyalty to the Beldam by keeping the eye away from Coraline and trying to sound an alarm. The cat had to help Coraline with the other mice. The other dad and other Wybie were the only ones of her creations that betrayed the Beldam. (I typed this part up before you went over the soul sand point and yeah that would explain it. lol) Editing in: I wonder if the well is like a one-way portal. that's why the Beldam didn't want the key to be thrown in. it'd be locked in on her side and she needs it to go through the now locked door to tempt another kid into her trap. Sooner, at least. I'm sure if she gathers her power up after a time she can get it back on the real world side.... Also, I wonder why she put Coraline into the mirror room where she could talk to the ghosts. she had to know that Coraline wouldn't "behave" after that. was she that desperate, maybe? hoping that a few days of no food would weaken her to the point where she can force on the buttons because a weak soul is better than none?

I’ve never heard anyone talk about when the beldam was singing part of the “dreaming” song in the intro, where she was sewing the Coraline doll. Obviously Teri Hatcher did the voice of the other mother/beldam and on Apple Music in the song “dreaming”, it lists Teri Hatcher as one of the artists in the song. Also when Coraline first enters the other world you can hear the beldam singing the Coraline tune again, but a different melody.

I think the cat was once the Beldams pet and when the cat found out about his owners plans he tried to help the children. Giving the kids information on the beldam. And the is able to talk because he used to drink water from the well which changes him and he has the power of talking and senses the other portals existence. So the cat can now jump through the portals whenever he wants thats why he disappears and reappears constantly.
