0:00 Introduction: Understanding the vagus nerve
0:45 How vitamin B1 deficiency affects the vagus nerve
1:18 Complications of low hydrochloric acid
5:25 How to support your gut health
6:28 Learn more about thiamine (vitamin B1)!
Let’s talk about the vagus nerve and digestion. One important function of the vagus nerve is regulating the hydrochloric acid in your stomach. A problem with the vagus nerve can lead to a cascade of digestive problems and health issues.
Acetylcholine is the main neurotransmitter involved in the vagus nerve. Acetylcholine needs vitamin B1, but a deficiency of B1 is a common problem. If you’re deficient in vitamin B1, your vagus nerve can’t make the hydrochloric acid you need.
A lack of hydrochloric acid can potentially lead to an increased risk of various health concerns, including:
• GERD
• Acid reflux
• Heartburn
• Hoarseness
• Problems digesting protein
• Bloating
• Constipation
• Allergies
• A lack of mineral absorption
• Anemia
• H. pylori
• Gastritis
• Ulcers
• Stomach cancer
• SIBO
• A lack of bile
• Gas
• Diarrhea
• Inflammation
• Leaky gut
• Immune problems
• Autoimmune problems
• Cognitive problems
• Mood problems
Consider taking natural vitamin B1 immediately. You can get it from nutritional yeast or a natural supplement. To increase hydrochloric acid naturally, try taking betaine hydrochloride.
If you have gastritis or ulcers, you may want to take zinc carnosine, but if you have SIBO, garlic may be beneficial. For stomach inflammation, try a carnivore diet.

This Doctor saved me. I was suffering from extreme constipation. 2 and a half months of hardly any bowel movements. The doctors couldn't do anything. Not once did they recommend bile salts or specific supplements. I started using Dr. Berg's supplements and apple cider vinegar. I also started eating non pasteurized sour kraut with small amounts of fiber to feed the probiotics. Thank you so much Dr.

Awesome job raising awareness on this. The connection between thiamine and the gut goes far deeper than just improving vagal tone and improve HCL output, however. The enteric neurons themselves require massive amounts of thiamine, and thiamine was shown in the older Japanese literature (not translated in English) to stimulate practically every function of the GI tract, all the way through output of pancreatic enzymes, intestinal motility, intestinal barrier function, etc. Research in China (also not translated in English) was using specific derivatives of thiamine back in the 1970s and 80s to treat intestinal disorders, ranging from IBS, constipation, obstruction and even IBD. The FIRST study in humans (induced thiamine deficiency in a controlled setting) found that none of the patients developed Beriberi or Wernicke encephalopathy, but instead most of the initial symptoms to develop were digestive complaints! Bloating, nausea, reflux, and symptoms identical to SIBO. All of these resolved when thiamine was repleted.

I follow both yourself and Dr Berg and a few weeks ago I started taking TTFD B1 900 mg per day and it seems to have started working, I seen on one of your videos that it can seem to make things worse before they get better so hopefully I am on that path. I have had tenesmus for 10 years, so many tests and docs have no idea what is causing it but watching your videos seemed to have all the symptoms of low B1 so thought I would give it a try. Keep up the good work.

Elliot, do you think benfothiamin can help here or should one use TTFD only to resolve the vagal and digestive issues? How about sulbutiamine? I don't tolerate TTFD well - massive headaches and brain fog. I cant do high amounts of molybdenum either which is what is recommended to help with the side effects of TTFD. I used to be on a high ox diet and am now under 60mg/day.

@vimalneha
@vimalneha Жыл бұрын
@@Johnnyquid20 Hi George, homoeopathy provides a cure for Gastritis but has a way to find a suitable remedy. That is essential. It is homeopathically incorrect to prescribe without knowing the causes. There is a sequence of medicines that are needed to be administered for 1, removal of acute symptoms and finally the cure. Not to discourage you, I would still write: Orinthogalum 30, to gradually go up or LM potencies Cantharis 30, Puls, Ipecac, Mezerium Acetic acid. YOu will need one to guide you. Then you would need constitutional treatment. Stress management is the core issue. These are quite extensive issues, but I would encourage you to stick to your health, eat plant-based food and lower the burden in your life. HPylori you must be knowing. There are many causes. I wish I start one-day of treatment distantly.

I had foot surgery yesterday and was pumped up with antibiotics and prescribed antibiotics. All I can think is my poor microbiome. I have a history of constipation and got into fermenting veg even using biofertilizers made with probiotics in my garden. I make my own sauerkraut and timed it just right for the ferment to be done when surgery was done. I make my own kombucha too.. So rebuilding now.

Acid reflux can also be in the way we eat . Not eating at the dinner table . Eating in a lounge chair or laying down right after a meal . Not being active to help digestion after we eat .

It's more to do with what someone eats. I lived with bad heartburn & reflux (thinking I had to live with it, since everyone in my family has them as well) for over 15 yrs. In 2009 I permanently eliminated bad gluten (wheat, barley, and rye). I haven't had either since. In addition, dozens of other health issues decreased substantially, or completely went away. Improving my overall health on every level, in many ways.

@@hotchihuahua1546 they sure do,due to nutrient deficiencies. In addition, what one eats, regarding ones health, is accumulative over their life. Thankfully many things MAY improve just by permanently eliminating bad gluten, and consuming nutrient dense whole foods. I know from personal experiences, and know lots of people whose health has also substantially improved. I'm turning 55 in a few days, and my health continues to slowly improve each year since 2009 (after 5 yrs of rapid health decline after the trauma of childbirth).

The connection between low stomach acid and GERD is such an unknown to the average sufferer. It took me a year of research to finally realize my silent reflux and GERD was caused by antacids. 🤦‍♂️

Omg! So I did have Gerd but I NEVER experienced heart burn Nor acid reflux. My Dr. Put me on a heartburn pill for years and I finally stopped taking it because I thought it made no sense because I Never had acid reflux issues just issues swallowing. Once I went off the heartburn pills I had unbearable acid reflux issues that I NEVER experienced before. I knew it was from the pills the moment I went off of them. Now after a few years I don’t really struggle with acid reflux as my body has gotten back to normal without those pills. But I still have it occasionally and I just take my vinegar with water and it helps.

I suffered from acid reflux for many years, and I was taking a lot of over the counter meds. Now what really worked for me and before I started doing a morning routine, i was skeptical, Apple cider vinegar 3 tablespoons diluted with water before I eaten anything and of course prebiotic. I no longer need over the counter meds.
