A critical ship review of the Frogmouth Shuttle by Sahb on Space Engineers, the Frogmouth is a low PCU transport ship designed with survival gameplay in mind having many features needed for it while staying efficient and looking nice while at it which was surprising because that's not what I expected from a passenger-esque transport ship

This is definitely an exploratory ship that's meant to establish a base wherever it lands and yes likely sent from a mother ship

IRL, planes make vortices at the tips of their wings (because there is less pressure over the wingtip than under it) and this creates drag. Adding a winglet move the Vortices up and reduce the difference in pressure between both sides. The result is smaller vortices and thus less drag.

For being a large-block ship with no sub-gridding, that is REALLY pretty.

It is quite a nice shuttle, I think the basic assembler is there for aesthetic reasons, it's a nice-looking block. from my own few ship that I published, small ships that are simple, good looking, and easy to build are more popular. Also if you reverse the edge of those wings, I think it would work well with the aerodynamic mod and be able to fly for a good while in the atmosphere (I would need to check on the center of mass and center of drag and lift to be sure)

It is c= and I see x3 that would be useful as well practically though and oo O: aerodynamic mod x3 I've only played with that on for a bit on a friend's private session c=

This is one of the nicest ships I've seen, Luca. I'm thinking of adopting it as my first lunar craft. The external texturing does need some serious work, but that's honestly the only criticism of it that I can think of.
@Zorrilote

I loved the interior of the ship, but the concept is quite limited for me at least. In official servers, ships should be very practical because of pcu limit, and i think that many other ships could have more production or defensive qualities with the same pcu. But yeah, if there's no pcu limit then this shuttle can shine with its design.
@LucaTheGuide

It is nice c= and yeah it's certainly not the most efficient way to utilize one's PCU in terms of getting the most out of your PCU in limited PCU situations

can easily add a refinery in the small craft area. replace the connector with a conveyor and fit one in that space. should just about fit

@@LucaTheGuide lol i'd find a way. I've crammed jump drives in some pretty small ships. with all the small hydro tanks should be easy to reposition stuff to fit.

What you called a 'winglet' is a vertical stabilizer on an airplane, usually it is in the back of an airplane, it serves to control both the direction and stability of an airplane. It serves no purpose on a vehicle in space.
@PalassCat
@PalassCat Жыл бұрын
But it's an absolutely must have for trans-atmospheric vehicle. The lack of aerodynamic stability is a top 2 reason for my ships no disintegrate on atmospheric entry in Kerbal Space Program. (top 1 is going in too fast and hot) Of course the stabilizers don't have much use in SE.
@anonymoususer3561

You might say this, but it has wings for a reason, and that reason is the same for which it has those wing tips.

I'm talking about the wingtip winglets c= which are separate things from the vertical stabilizers, usually found on modern airliners

@@LucaTheGuide I've worked a lot with aircraft in the past, so I am familiar with them, but the large pieces you seem to have been focusing on [the ones going upward from the 'wings' are too large to be useful in that role. If anything, those smaller, downward sloping pieces of single layer armor plate would be more the right size, only they are facing the wrong direction.

I've never had an issue with inset connectors on my ships. Or at least connectors that don't extend past the farthest point of the hull. Sometimes I will use half blocks or use a combination of angle blocks to create an indentation around the connector itself. as for a secondary connector, in the case of a ship like this it adds a lot off versatility for the PCU cost, and the ship is already pretty low PCU. Could dock a miner or rover to it, plus acts as a cargo access point when the ship is on the ground and the other connector is unacceptable.

Musai class Cruisers from Mobile Suit Gundam had shuttles that kind of look like this built under the nose that could be launched. So imagine this staying at being built in the first quarter underneath the nose plugging into the superstructure of the cruiser. I don't think it could fly in atmosphere.

That docking bay in the back would easily hold a really large cargo container. With internally mounted magnetic plates you could even ensure a whole lot more load holding control.

@@LucaTheGuide One may need either a ground vehicle to lift a container, OR it might need a built in crane/lift mechanism that the creator of the ship might have forgotten, did not think was needed or could not figure out how to put in there.
