What I always find funny about the philosophy on whether or not to kill a dangerous enemy, is that it always comes after killing a myriad of foot soldiers who were only doing their job. They don't get a second thought, and yet the evil masterminds responsible for millions of deaths always get more consideration.

The thing with Obi Wan leaving Vader alive could have been so easily fixed.

Also, when Reva attacked Owen, I'm surprised that didn't change his mind about teaching Luke the ways of the force- or at least moving far away.

Someone already pointed this out but the biggest plot hole is that Obi Wan left Vader alive. Why would he then wait in hiding for 10 or so years waiting to train Luke to kill Vader?

Sometimes the old saying "leave well enough alone" is incredibly valuable. Disney would've been better off, imo, making a show centered around the early years of The Empire. Maybe 9 months after ROTS? That way Bail Organa could be in it, Vader and The Emperor could be in it and yet it stays far away from episode 4. The show we got didn't need to be at all.

Every time I see LucasFilm try to fix continuity or maintain canon, I'm reminded of the words of the great philosopher Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan: "The more you tighten your grip, the more plot holes will slip through your fingers."

I’ve never been a Lotr fan but I admire their fandom. They won’t stand for even the smallest lore change. Star Wars fans will not only accept blatant vandalism and plot holes but they’ll help the apathetic, agenda driven vandals piece it together 🤦🏽‍♂️.

I feel like Reeva surviving successive stabs to the heart and other organs breaks the Canon much more. To be honest, even if Darth Vader won and hence 'left' Obi Wan for dead, I wouldn't have been surprised if he just turned up perfectly fine a couple minutes after.

Any possible contradictions could've been easily avoided and the show could've been infinitely more consistent with ROTS and ANH if Vader and Obi-Wan never crossed paths, except only in a connection through the Force where they feel each other and exchange some lines. Then Vader would continue hunting down other Jedi survivors, while Obi-Wan would continue watching over Luke and maybe kill an Inquisitor or two. And Leia could've been saved by Ahsoka maybe, which could explain why Leia wasn't so close with Obi-Wan in ANH.

I think when Vader says "Obi-wan once thought as you do" he's referring to how Luke believes there is still an Anakin to save, just as Obi-wan once believed the same.

I wish they gave Obi-Wan more of a reason to leave Vader there instead of killing him. Really didn't feel right that he just walks away

If I’m being as fair as possible, it’s not the WORST canon breaker ever, I don’t think it was entirely justified either. My main issue with it is I don’t think it really added anything. It just feels like cheap fan service to me

I agree. A New Hope makes Obi Wan's time in the Clone Wars and relationship with Vader sound almost ancient.

"I haven't gone by the name of Obi-Wan since... oh, before you were born." This stuff is making me afraid the Mandela Effect will kick in and the Star Wars I remember will be gone forever.

Not only are they never supposed to meet, it undermines the purpose of Luke as a character. He, and Leia, are the only hope for defeating Vader. Point blank. Why do they need a "new hope" if the old Order could handle the problem on their own. Kenobi manipulating Anakin on Mustafar was at least consistent with the idea that before they met again in ANH, Vader had much more to learn but was still far more powerful than Obi-Wan. If this series had to exist, and it didn't, it should have seen Kenobi realizing Vader has grown massively in the Force since their last encounter making it obvious his only chance is prepare Luke to confront him one day. Not refuse to kill Vader right after accepting his brother is already dead and he's just releasing a mass murderer back into the galaxy.

It's incredibly dumb that Obi Wan leaves Vader alive. I mean, they've just established that Obi Wan learned and accepted that Vader really is only a shell of the person he knew, so it'd make perfect sense for him to be fine killing him to prevent all the bad things he'd do in the future.

Since RotS also doesn't show Vader leaving, I always kinda saw his "When I left you" line as more a cope. "When I left you" because he can act like he was in control of the fight then. That he let Kenobi walk away. As for the doing what he must . . . yeah I think they needed to time stuff differently. If he had felt that Luke was in danger before he could kill Vader you can easily justify it as "Oh no I need to go NOW and keep Luke safe!"
