I saw it this week and I was speechless. I was smiling through most of the movie, I truly felt like a child in a theater watching a puppet show. I haven't been immersed in a movie so much in a while, and the acting was just phenomenal as well. At the end, I wanted to cry, and I didn't even know why. Would totally recommend it to everyone I know

I grew up with my mom reading me the Arabic 1001 nights before I went to sleep , were my favorite books and this movie rendered the stories exactly how was I imagining them when I was a kid.. Idris is playing the role so fantastic and his voice is so soothing while he tells the stories I could've listened forever, I saw the movie 2 times already and the second time I fell asleep just like when I was little.. I'm not sure everyone is gonna feel connected at this level but it is a beautiful movie to watch even if you never read the books.. A movie series would be so great based on 1001 nights..

I saw that movie last weekend, and OMG, I fucking loved this movie. For the first time, I went there without knowing anything about the plot. I thought it was like a visual bad trip, with what the trailer showed...but it was superior to what I thought. I was captivated by the stories, and when the movie ended, while we were only three person seeing it, I stayed a minute longer in the theatre still thinking about it. No joke. It's a damn good movie.

I'm baffled how no one is talking about this movie more. It's such a visual & story telling masterpiece much like Everything Everywhere All At Once. Literally the only thing that irks me is how the Airbus A320 in the opening sequence had its horizontal stabilizer in the down position at cruising altitude and zero flaps setting upon landing. Everything else is just pure bliss. I hope there's a spin-off like what it means to be in a Djinn's world. We definitely need more movies like this where a corporation does not milk us off every cent by making ok movies all too often.

Really? I was annoyed at its depiction of djinn. It's very based on post Islamic ideas of djinn, sort of cautionary deities akin to demons but not quite. But djinn are pre Islamic spirits, the queen of Sheba predates Islam as a religion, so why does the djinn claim to fear god? If he said gods maybe it would make sense, but as is it seems so bizarre to shoehorn monotheism into mythology much older than it.
@nonnidreams
@nonnidreams Жыл бұрын
@@dunnejos8423, Islam is a monotheistic religion. This Djinn is based on those influences. Not before Islam. This is a movie, not a historically accurate documentary. @@dunnejos8423, It’s a fantasy, just like the myths about Djinn. So, you’re not supposed to expect realism and historical accuracy. All fairytales, are about the moral of the story, really. From been a bookworm, and reading a lot of fantasy genre, as well as comicbooks and manga since the 2nd grade till my early 30s. And anime, and fantasy films. It’s about suspension of disbelief, and like the reviewer said, been creative, not really about historical accuracy. And mainly movies are about escapism and entertainment really. Even if the director tells a really different and unique story like this one is.

I for one loved it, and I think I can get more from it with repeat viewings. It's of course a lot like One Thousand and One Nights in its form, but I do think the execution is unique, specially when Alithea and the Djinn have their exchanges about human nature and the nature of wishes/stories. This is the type of film we ask for ALL the time, not a franchise, not a reboot or remake or prequel... Just an original story that we can enjoy and get different things from. Great review Chris!

I found this a great story in its subtlety. This is the precise perfectionism of George Miller without the flash and bang. The actors were flawless. What we see are moments from the lives of these two characters with having everything tied with a bow, without the viewer being led around by the nose.

I wasn’t able to see it the theatre for health reasons but kept it in the back of my mind to watch because of this review. I just saw it last night and it was fantastic. I enjoyed the stories for what they were and didn’t worry about where they were going. I could see how Tilda’s character, being lover of stories, could come to realize she wanted love as experienced by the Djinn in his stories. I understood how she came to regret her first wish, as wanting love sometimes makes people selfish. She in turn showed love to the Djinn by giving up what she wanted most for him, something he hadn’t experienced before. The ending was as happy as it could be, given the circumstances, and in a way she gets to have both her love and her freedom. Great review Chris!

A movie for lonely ppl, ppl who love stories, and lonely ppl who love stories. The importance of stories in our culture and civilization. The importance of connectedness. The importance of not letting hope and that little inner spark fade away. Love. Art. Appreciating science and technology but not letting that take away from the unexplainable magic that can bring us joy and save our lives. It ping pongs back and forth between a fantastical back story, with insane visual and auditory artistry on display, and a smaller more intimate setting where 2 lonely characters talk their way into finding something more. Seriously though, the visuals and sound design in this movie are out of this world. Not a perfect flick. Loses some steam in certain spots. The trailers dont really hit the nail on the head as far as capturing the spirit of the movie. Probably not gonna be for everyone, but I love it more and more the more I think about it.

First, let's be real, it's hard not to be totally enraptured by Idris, Lord!! I absolutely loved this film for so many reasons. The cinematic visual evoked all the right emotions at the right time and really did transport me on a magical journey. The thing I loved most is we get finally get the story of the Genie (Djinn) from the eyes and experiences of the Genie. Bravo George Miller, cast, and crew, I did become a part of the story, mission accomplished. I will see this again and again. I rarely go to the movies anymore because I despise violence, blowing things up and vulgarity. I really despise sex scenes. They are so creepy to me. I mean REALLY,,, would you go watch your neighbors having sex? Why would anyone want to watch that? The few sex scenes in this movie were suggestive and not in your face porn like most of Hollywood. Loved it! Period!

I appreciate to see your views on the film albeit at the same time I'm not surprised. The way you analyze and approach the rarities which these gems tend to be as handled with such discretion it's truly remarkable to see and hear. I saw this movie yesterday, as I went in the usher told me I heard it's bad good luck (me being a regular) ... my response was so it's different, must that be bad? I took the ushers words as this will be just as fascinatingly bonkers as I wish it could be. I was absolutely blown away. No, it's not perfect as you say but it gave me so much to ponder over and look at ... It remained with me after and something I wished to discuss. But I found the masses had not had much appreciation. It will be a cult classic I'm sure. Last time I recall I had a similar experience was cloud atlas in 2012, I wish more movies to this degree came around more than once a decade. They are truly a marvel to behold and so much to take away from it, if you have the desire and patience to await the project to deliver its essence.

This was a movie that I really wanted to love, especially since I always respect anytime a movie as creative as this is able to release to theatres, but... man that last act just killed a lot of my enthusiasm for it. I was absorbed in learning all about the stories of the Djinn, but when it came time for the film to wrap up its own story, I just felt like it collapsed under its own ambition and became aimless. I don't usually mind when a movie gets messy near the end (I mean Last Night in Soho was one of my favorites last year), but this one just didn't do it for me in the end. I would definitely be open to rewatching it, but considering my theatre will probably ditch it next week, it may be a while out before I get the chance to

Idk maybe it was just me but it felt out of place. I would’ve preferred them just being friends. I think it’s very common in American media for us to prop up romantic relationships over others, and view them as more valuable. But it isn’t always necessary to see that in a story. We just saw this film and were literally mesmerized by it. It's one that we want to watch again at home with closed captions on because 1) my husband is very hard of hearing (even with aids) and 2) we want to understand the dialog in the telling of the tales. Even though it was at times difficult to keep track of what was happening, it hardly mattered...we both just enjoyed the magnificent ride. And it was made even better because we ate indica gummies before the movie began! 😎

This is the most gorgeous movie I've seen in a long time. It has a weird premise, but the ending is weirdly accessible and romantic (even though that's actually the part that confused me). It kinda reminds me of The Fall.

I expected it to bomb unfortunately. I’d almost compare this to Cloud Atlas in the sense of it being an indie film with a Hollywood budget, essentially dooming its success. I quite enjoyed it and don’t regret seeing it in theaters. Ik it means very little but I went out and supported it. Movies like this deserve better. Another movie I felt this way towards was David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future. Even tho I wouldn’t say I loved it, it was entirely a legendary director’s vision and I appreciate the commitment. The failure of it assured Cronenberg’s retirement, but he had a good run. Hopefully George Miller can succeed with Furiosa

Most of the movie reminded me a lot of The Red Violin how it was an anthology of different historical periods. I'm making it a policy of mine to go in as blind as possible because that really paid off with this one. Plus my screening (AMC) had an introductory clip of George Miller thanking us for coming out to see the movie which was nice.

I was expecting something along the line of The Fall or The Adventures of Baron Munchausen based on the trailer, but instead I just got this awsome bit of story telling. I really enjoyed it. My only question is the fact that she sees one of the court members in the audience before she meets the Djinn. This leaves the rest of the film in a "is this happening" or is this part of her "imaginiation."

I like weird, challenging movies too-I always have-but I think this film showed me how much I like “likable” characters in trouble and a coherent, developed narrative. Alithea told us outright (paraphrasing) “she’s content, she doesn’t want or need anything she hasn’t got.”. Sure, she could be incorrect about this but it turns me off as a viewer. Likewise, Idris’ character had no clear motivations beyond not being re-imprisoned for millenia. This felt VERY much like a book adaptation and as well-acted and shot as it was, it fell flat for me.

This movie had so many fantastic elements, and yet somehow I felt that the pieces didn't flow in a way that was as thrilling as it should've been.
