Great surfing from both guys even with those power lacking conditions.they will always be remembered and compared with the surfing of today.also a reminder that style is very important.

These flatter, thicker 80s designs are making a comeback, aren't they? I see that a lot of shapers have some 80s-inspired shapes nowadays.

Those waves would be great to learn to surf on, or longboard on, IMO.

I do. Curren's boards at the time were 2 and 7/8 " thick. Try turning that.

Dá pra ver claramente que as pranchas são muito muito duras.

@jstnhnh the thicker boards worked good! the guy that i used to get boards from when i was a kid in the 90s was always yelling at me for ordering boards that were WAY too thin! i wish i had listened. but these days it's fun to go out on thicker boards and see what works and what's fun to ride. when i was a 15 year old kid i was too worried about image and all that. funny.

You do realize that those "TERRIBLE BOARDS" were state of the art, just like today's boards. Most, if not all boards made back then were low rocker, with lots of volume through the middle. I had about a dozen of them, just like Curren's.

i wish they had more variety back then. all they r doing are cutbacks and snaps and pumping
@marleySux14 жыл бұрын
curren had triple concave- the tri plane hull- al merrick started that in 73 or so. thats why curren was the best in those days, and why he was surfing faster than carroll

Curren's board would look/ride better a couple or more inches shorter. Carroll's style and maneuver's are looking more inspiring than Curren's in this vid.

Both would have done better with a short & thin modern board. However, it was their era that made the biggest changes in surfing which continued. To bad they didn't have 2-3 week 'wait periods' for contests back then. Define "more inspiring" style & maneuvers because Curren was riding a log in sluggish waist high slop & still got it on rail to slap the faces silly*
