All of this depends on how well your liver functions. Good liver function is needed to properly process protein. When your liver is over taxed you can end up with those elevated levels of ammonia. I had end stage cirrhosis and lost the ability to process protein had elevated levels of ammonia and was consuming my bodies muscle mass to keep my heart working. I was very lucky and received a liver transplant a few years ago. My functions continue to show improvements back to normal levels. Oh, my cirrhosis was caused by chemical exposure while in the military for 20 years in the 70's 80's and 90's. Never was much of a drinker and quit all together around 2000.

It saddens me to realize how much wrong diet / food information I've been fed for the last 50 plus years. I'm 65 years old and since following Dr. Ekbergs teachings for the past 4 months, I feel and look better than I did since I was in my 20`s. So, when it comes to following the advice from the mainstream medical media, "do the opposite" seems like a good plan!

Its about making money at the expense of your health. The “for profit” healthcare system will make money off of your health too. Then the gov will save money by not paying you social security because your body has been poisoned by the food supply and you wont last long if you happen to make it to age 67.

I feel so much better, hypoglycemia is gone, sinuses are better, sleep is better, cravings for sugar gone, more energy and I eat once or twice a day, I used to be starving hungry every 2-3 hours, now I don't need as much food. I don’t have health insurance either and I’ve been trying my best to heal it myself. I found your page just 3 weeks ago. The fasting videos, this one etc…Fast forward I was 193 lbs and today I am 168 lbs and my knee seems to be getting more than slightly better. I feel so much healthier physicall and mentally. I listen to your videos even when I’m on the road and your videos have been a blessing in my life and I’m sure to many here as well. From the bottom of mi heart, I just want to give thanks to you. I was diagnosed with Rhabdo not too long ago…. After my recovery, about a couple months later, I would wake up with my kidneys feeling like they were on fire. Every time I ate, my back hurt so bad that it would paralyze me for days. I thought I was having a healthy diet by quitting fast food and transitioned to eating cereal and sandwiches. It wasn’t until I found this channel that I realized that I was doing it all wrong. It was my body inability to break down the large amounts of bread I would eat on a daily basis that was causing my kidney and lower back pain. This channel saved my life! Thank you!

@@dianelanderson5504 hemoglobin A1c blood test. You can also do glucose meter testing on what effect various foods have on your blood glucose. If your blood glucose goes high after eating certain foods and it stays high after a couple of hours then you have insulin resistance. Type 2 diabetes. You can also check if you have hyperinsulinemia which usually precedes type 2 diabetes. Again do glucose curves after eating carbohydrates. If your blood sugar actually goes down quickly after eating something that ought to be raising it, then you are producing too much insulin in response to a glucose load. That's what people call hypoglycemia but it's actually not. Just that glucose can rapidly reduce from a normal high to a normal low in a short period of time.

@K Good for you! I know that your changeover was not easy. A very common misperception is that if you are not a vegetarian, then you do not care about animals. This could not be further from the truth. In fact, many carnivore and keto eaters are animal lovers, and want animals to live and thrive. When they are harvested, we want it done in the most humane way possible. I am glad that you are able to overcome these crossroads, and that you are on your way to better health and happiness.

I love your content and really appreciate the time, research and effort that go into you videos. I would love to see a video that talks about how to eat according to the principles that you recommend if you are also extremely active. On average I work out at least two hours each day and I am often training for a long-distance running event. I find it very difficult to fuel my body adequately when trying any form of intermittent fasting and/or limiting my carb intake. I would love to see a video about this issue as I’m sure you have valuable insight!

Almost everything I was taught in high school biology regarding the structure and properties of poly-unsaturated fats, saturated fats and trans fats was twisted around. Often times during the unit, it was explained saturated fats were terrible because the types of bonds they formed and the close packing of hydrogen made it more difficult for the body to break down. I have recently switched over from a 3 year strict vegan diet to eating much more red meat, chicken, eggs and fish. Cut grains and processed foods out of my diet and man the change has been mind blowing as an athlete. I feel strong and the rebound in aerobic activity is staggering. Thank you for your informative videos Dr Ekberg, they are a bright spot on KZfaq.

I have found, that the inclusion of a digestive enzyme supplement, in a medium protein, high fat diet, can make it easier on the stomach. A lot of people don't make enough bile, so struggle to digest fat. Also, I do split eggs. I use the whites to make Keto sub roll's and the yolks for mayonnaise.

Hi. I recently started watching your videos.They're very informative, and you present ideas very clearly. Thanks. In this video, you said we don't utilize whey protein very well when it's separated and put into protein powders. If we drink a whey protein shake at the same meal where we also have a steak, does the utilization of the whey protein increase? I know we probably should just avoid the whey protein. However, I'm curious about the effects when we combine foods at the same meal.

Been on IF and Keto since the start of 2019, but I'm also vegetarian since 2016 (just can't bring myself to eat animals, no other reason), so eggs, cheese and butter are a staple for me. Nothing like a good 5-egg omelette with 5 different cheeses to break your fast at lunch. Been eating this literally every day, with a few single-digit exceptions, for the past (almost) 2 years - and I love it! Eggs are free-range, cheese and butter are from grass-fed cows. My grandpa even makes yoghurt for me from his friend who sells him raw milk from her cow (fully pastured). I've never been healthier in my life - lost 25 kg of fat, gain around 6-7 kg of muscle and all my bloodwork is spot-on (unlike before). Haven't had a day sick since, and I used to be sick all the time. I'm saying all of this in case you ever doubted Dr. Ekberg's advice - although I discovered his channel only a year ago, it's helped me a lot to keep me on the right track that I stumbled on by myself.

Hello Dr. Sten Ekberg. I am one of your new subscribers. I can verify the accuracy of your video regarding protein toxicity from eating only lean meats. I ate entirely lean meats for one year and ate nothing else to see what it would do. I became bloated, my belly became bloated but most importantly I was always hungry and never felt full no matter how much I ate. I developed brain fog and delerium and it affected my nervous system so much that I was hospitalized. After a short time of eating custard in the hospital and balanced hospital food I felt fine again but sadly the doctors never recognized or heard of protein toxicity. Keep making great videos.

Great video as always. Thank you Dr. Ekberg! As a subject for a future video (assuming you don't already have one), could you look more in depth into the effect of metabolic adaptation to weight loss? I'm talking about the process in which the body becomes more efficient at using its energy after being in a caloric deficit for a while (therefore lowering its basal metabolic rate beyond what is expected from loss of active tissue, and making further weight loss increasingly more difficult). It's an amazing survival mechanism and it's a good thing that it exists, but in modern society it can make it more tricky for us to maintain weight loss :) It would be interesting to find out for example if different types of diets have different effects on this, or if the frequency of meals plays a role or not. Not only that, but maybe there is also an optimal amount of calories (or macronutrients) that you should be consuming in a deficit, to keep this effect at a minimum
@mikafoxx2717
@mikafoxx2717 2 жыл бұрын
Let's not forget that the lighter someone is, the less energy is required to move them around day to day. So that might confound the data somewhat. Especially if those studied do cardio and calorie deficit with too little protien and they also lose the muscle that they used to use.

Thank you for all the work you do to help people lead healthy lives. Would it be possible for you to do a video on the vegetarian Keto lifestyle? I just can't eat meat...to me, it is gross. After finding your KZfaq channel, I'm trying to eat better, but there isn't much information for vegetarians. I have severe heart disease (three stents which were needed after the RCA and LAD were 100% blocked - not at the same time, though, and I'm very lucky to be alive). I should not have survived either event, but here I am. After following your advice, I am losing weight - slowly, but my heart is beginning to feel better. Any advice on how to eat healthy and reverse the inflammation on a vegetarian diet would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, again.

I would be really greatful, if you would make a video, on what foods to break a fast with. When I have been fasting for a few days, I am never quite sure which would be the best foods to break it with. I would also like to say, thank you for your videos. After being a person for decades who was really fit, even in my late forties ( karate 6 days a week and running 5 miles 3 days a week) I changeded jobs for long shifts and hit the menopause. I then spent the next few years seemingly, oblivious to gaining fat. I tried the usual quick fix starvation diets, and just as you have explained in other videos, you end up putting the weight back on..."and then some"... I found your site by accident, and was intrigued. I have gone on to watch many of your videos, sometimes repeated to ensure i have fully grasped what you have said. After 6 -7 weeks of following this, I not only feel much better as my energy levels are not all over the place, but have lost 17lb , without it even being difficult. In effect, your videos save lives. Thank you.

I wonder how much fat we really should eat. People lose good weight on a low fat diet (between low fat and low carb it's almost equal). So fat does make us fat, contrary to what some say. You may want to back off on the fats if you are eating too many.

I turned from lacto-ovo vegetarian to pescatarian and I got confirmation from your video that I am actually eating the best sources of protein (whole egg, fermented dairy products, fish). I only consume the fermented type of soy products, if at all, and I recently cut down with beans/lentils and legumes because I find that these types of food have strengthened my autoimmune symptoms. One thing I was missing from the list is mushrooms, I would have loved to know how could mushroom contribute to daily protein intake, although I am sure there is a reason why it's not on the list. Another common source these days is algae, so that could be interesting to discuss too. Although I personally find them to be worsening autoimmune symptoms as well. All in all, I got convinced that I follow the right diet, so I thank you for this really meaningful video Dr. Ekberg.
