2024 UPDATE: 9. With No. 1309 now operable, a rebuild for No. 734 is planned, pending funding. 6. No. 2716 has since moved to the former CSX facility in Ravenna, Ky., and is undergoing extensive rebuilding, including a firebox rebuild, various appliance replacements and conversion to oil firing. 15:02 - By the way, I hear a lot of complaints regarding 1309’s heritage being changed from C&O to WMSR, but the same thing happened to 2716 decades before, but I didn't see anyone complaining.

Most of the hate on 1309 comes from C&O fans, and 2716 did get a little bit of complaining from the C&O fans when she was changed to a Southern locomotive. The likely reason is because the C&O was a large railroad with a lot of big fans. When 734 was changed from a LS&I engine to a Western Maryland engine, for example, no one really cared because the LS&I was not a large or significant railroad, so there's not a lot of fans of the line.

@@PennsyPro you have a point but I think 1309 and 2716 looks good in thoses looks 2716 as a southern engine with smokenox headlight and 1309 in western Maryland colors

Robert Kersey if time travel is ever to become possible, I don’t care if it screws up time and space continuum, I’m going to bring back 5269 from the dead and save her to keep her from scrap, buy her after her owner gets rid of her, and move her to the Iowa interstate, lol I’m kiding April fools.

2716 looks good regardless. The only thing I dislike about her Southern masqurade is her whistle. They apparently installed a filter so the smoke wouldn't get onto the sand dome, but the filter made the whistle sound bad.

I remember having a magazine as an 8 year old called "Fantastic 4-8-4s". 5632's unfortunate demise was in that magazine. I remember crying hysterically after reading those 2 pages. I refused to read that thing for a straight month after reading that section. I don't know where this was going, but seeing this video brought it back into my head. Still tragic regardless of frankly stupid childhood trauma. I was dumb.

One thing about the LS&I 2-8-0s, 33 actually ran on the Hocking Valley Railroad throughout the 80s if you didn't know.

We’re unlikely to see 587 run for a very long time as it’s still owned by ITM. ITM has arguably managed the restoration of 587 worse than WMSR 1309 and PRR 1361. Our only hope to see an NKP Mikado run again as of current is Ft. Wayne. They’re looking at NKP 624.

@@blackbirdgaming8147 yea but there is hope because after the 2716 is done talks of 587 getting restored next and steaming up again. 587 has always been my personal favorite so it would be cool to see two NKP steam engines and to see it maybe double head with 611 again!

Richard Jenson passed away in March 16, 1991? This is worse than Grand Trunk Western 5629 being scrapped!

Forgive me if I sound ignorant, but who exactly is this Richard Jensen? I’ve heard his name tossed around in a few videos like this, but I’ve never heard of him, and I can’t seem to find any information about him

@@Jaidyn228 He was also the one who worked on getting the CB&Q excursion locomotives preserved, though one of them was sadly cut up for scrap after it was evicted from a roundhouse and derailed moving into a scrapyard for storage.

If 765 underwent restoration in 2005, that means she will be restored this year too since they need to be rebuilt every 15 years by federal law.

@@awildjared1396, that's a good observation, but what the FWRHS did this time around was split the inpsection in half, doing one part during the 2015-16 off-season, and the other part during the 2017-18 off-season. The engine is still in great condition, and doing it this way ensures she won't miss a season. She'll be good until the winter of 2031.

2716 was in terrible shape from complete neglect from the KRM. The KRM has many very rare and historical pieces in their yard but all sit rusting away, many nearly beyond preservation. They completely mismanage their equipment but thankfully KSHC has saved 2716 from the fate of rusting into the dirt like the rest of the KRM collection. Now I’m Revenna KY, just 20min from my home, I’ll get to see the giant steam again within a couple years.

The 5629 is long gone. She was cut up in the 1980s.

33 was on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway and then it was traded to Jerry in about 2001

GTW 5629 was meant to be preserved for further excursion but sadly scrapped following a legal battle between Metra and Richard Jenson. They tried to save it but couldn't. Some are currently either being restored or have been scrapped completely.

The Southern RR wanted to buy or lease 5629 so they could turn her into a 'Southern PS-4' like the one in Smithsonian. Jensen wouldn't lease the locomotive for any affordable price, so it never happened. I except it'd be around today if that'd happened

Just to clarify the part about 5629, it wasn’t Metra who was at fault for her scrapping. Metra tried to save the locomotive by buying it off of Jenson, but Jenson, like an utter piece of sh*t, denied the offer because he wanted to sue Metra for damages. Also, when several museums tried to get their hands on 5629, a**hole Jenson again denied them. After several attempts to save her, Metra was given the court order to scrap 5629. Metra was forced to scrap her all because Jenson was being an arrogant piece of sh*t who just cared about the money from a lawsuit he wanted to win and when he did, he thankfully was told to shove it up his ass. So for those of you blaming Metra for what happened to 5629, Jenson just proved how much of a piece of sh*t he really was because he wanted her scrapped just to sue Metra. If you don’t believe me, go check out the video by History In The Dark about 5629. He’ll explain it all.

This is my personal opinion, so my fellow railfans don't get upset. 2716 from the videos I've watched of "him" yes I said him because 2716 has a masculine chuff and steam exhaust bark. While let's say 765 has a more quieter femmine park and chuff. I'm a frim believer that locomotives can have masculine attributes and then some can have feminine attributes. This hole every Locomotive is a "she" is just silly to me. But I am happy 2716 is getting the restoration "he" deserve either though 2707 the locomotives sister should have one to. It's really hard seeing just sitting there at the IRM rotting.
