Really appreciate u making these videos.. I played pro basketball in Europe, came home in 2013 cause of a knee injury. I'm finally healed but lost all strength in my legs. I need these videos more than a lot of people.

Chris, what is overtime athletes stance on full squats?

When performing the Trap Bar Deadlft, what do you think about the contact time of the weight and ground between each rep? I've found some guys are able to explode off the ground as soon as the weight touches the ground, whereas others reset and then start their next rep. Is this essential? It is something that as an athlete you think I should try to develop?

Conventional deadlift vs Trap Bar Deadlift for sprinters, which one do you recommend?
@overtimeathletes
@overtimeathletes 8 жыл бұрын
+Mart Muru Great question I really like the top portion of the conventional as it mimics the pulling motion in acceleration I teach. This is if the athlete can perform a proper deadlift. If not efficient, I see a greater progression in force when young athletes perform trap bar due to the simplicity of the movement in contrast to the conventional when you increase the weight.

+Mart Muru The trap bar deadlift is the most overrated exercise for athletes period. It's essentially a quarter squat with the weight at your sides. The range of motion in a conventional deadlift is far greater.
@arnoudverschoor1381
@arnoudverschoor1381 8 жыл бұрын
+neoswordian91 Range of motion is similar. Why is it overrated? All that matters is force put in the ground, which a trap bar does a lot more specific than a normal deadlift. A normal deadlift is way more spinal erectors and a lot less hips, a trap bar is a lot more the opposite.
@neoswordian91

+arnoud verschoor A quarter squat also generates more force than a full squat because heavier loads can be used. Your point?

I do these all the time more than deadlifts with a straight bar so witch is better for football straight bar or hex bar?
@BryanMcCaffrey10
@BryanMcCaffrey10 8 жыл бұрын
+Max Bahls both probably help so you should do both, but the deadlift with a straight bar beats out any other variation of the deadlift

A hex bar mimics a jump way better than a normal barbell would.

Yeah I think I'll do both I can't do near as much weight with the straight bar as I can with the shrug bar lol

if you go really heavy how does that translate too explosive power development as you are not travelling quickly so therefore not eliciting strength speed, speed strength or reactive strength but max strength, obviously making an athlete stronger will increase their ability to produce more force but we need to move weight quickly to improve vertical jumping ability

+travz21 You must have a really weak lower back...
@travz21
@travz21 8 жыл бұрын
The trap bar doesn't force you to engage your core because the weight is directly under your center of gravity. Deadlifting with a regular bar has the weight in front of center, which automatically engages your core when you go to pick it up. This is why trap bar is snap city. Try picking up hundreds of pounds with a weak core.
