Musing out loud, I see this video has been up for 13 months now. 34K people have watched it. Only 1 in 34 who watched the video give it a thumbs up 9 (Adobe stockholders?) voted it down. I've seen this phenomenon often on KZfaq - a great, informative video but few users bothering to thank the author with an up-vote. Great tips! I tried applying these tips to Affinity Designer (working on a vector project at the moment) and found them very helpful using that app as well. I refused to pay a subscription fee after all the money I laid out since my first Photoshop purchase in 1992. Affinity is progressing quickly and I find myself enjoying using their products. Love that I can use either my IPad or MacBook Pro interchangeably. Adobe is so late to the tablet market it’s laughable. Appreciate you for taking the time to share, I’m subscribing to see what else you got! Thank you so much!

I used to have the entire Adobe suite, but I hated paying the monthly subscription even though I had a discount. When my one year was over I drop kicked Adobe like a bad habit, and bought the entire Affinity suite. Affinity does things slightly different, but not so much that I'm starting with the huge learning curve I had with Photoshop. I really like your numbered "Tips" videos, in this case 20, because I think their even better than the "tutorials" Affinity has on their website

Great Tips. For Polygon Tool you can also hold down SHIFT while in Freehand and it will turn into Polygon.

Anyway, your "Photoshop did it like this and Affinity does it like this" was just the thing since I'm so familiar with PS. Great transitioning video!

I have just started with Affinity Designer 2, having used Gimp for many years. I am sure much of this can be applied to Designer 2 even though it is meant for Photo. Thank you for the time and effort.

these tips were awesome ;) I've ordered the book as I am loving owning this program and so want to get to be great at it. one thing I noticed is as a novice even in Photoshop, I found myself far more comfortable with the this program instead.

To toggle the ruler measurement you can also "right click" / "cmd click(?)" the upper right corner, where it shows the shorthand (px, mm, in ...) to bring up that same popup menu with the other measurements. You can also drag that corner to re-adjust the zero marker for both axis (enable the move tool first).

Good video - Tip 17 (I think it was) once you have half of heart shape selected, just add layer mask and then only selected half of heart would show. No need to rasterise.

Perfect group of 20 fast and effective tutorials. You should consider the possibility of a tutorial about the DENOISE filter. As it is at the present does not have significant effects (before the was the button EXTREME, that worked perfectly well, but the AP developers have made the mistake to removed it).

21:30, that makes sense, a pixel layer is supposed to be an image/photograph and by default you don’t wanna change the aspect ratio. On a shape it’s the opposite.

As you requested: I have a picture my daughter took of my twins grandsons starting 7th grade, holding a glass framed picture of their first grade picture. She does this each year to show progress in their development. This past year, using her iPhone as camera source and facing wrong direction, her image taking picture reflected through the glass framed picture. I tried everything to remove her reflection. Suggestion or KZfaq “How To” would be appreciated as many may have similar problem. Thank you.

Can you use textures in affinity?

Some simple key features explained here. I've been chasing around for some of these things and here they are. One quick question: is it possible to change the white canvas to a transparent checkerboard background in AP? I have been trying to figure that one out but haven't found a solution. Absolutely great video! In Photoshop I used "Fit Image" to create an "Action" which I used to downsize a batch of images. With "Fit Image" as part of the downsizing it downsize automatically without changing the aspect ratio. How do you do this in Affinity Photo?

at 26.28 you dragged the image back to the guidelines however when I try it the small markers around the image do not move. Has something changed in the subsequent updates since this fantastic video was made? It's okay, I fixed it, I have no idea how but it works:)

Hi. I'm a portrait artist and need help as to how to overlay photos for purpose of correcting the drawing of, and placement of facial features in a portrait painting. In this instance I'm working from a photo of my subject, and can't work out where I'm going wrong with my drawing using the traditional methods. I've been told that there is a way to upload the original reference photo, and then a photo of the painting which I can then adjust to make it the same size as the reference photo. Then I'm supposed to be able to make the photo of either the painting or the reference photo transparent and then overlay the two for comparison. I've never used more than the basic photo software that came with my Imac, and haven't a clue what to do. I've downloaded the free trial of Affinity, but before I commit to the full purchase I need to know how to to do the overlays. Can you please help me? thanks

Hey folks. If you want the POLYGON TOOL > You have to select FREEHAND SELECTION TOOL under that icon to have the polygon appear in the upper tool bar. .... that’s what I have to do anyway. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Richard - As a long time Photoshop user, I was disappointed that I couldn't find photo filters in Affinity. After looking at your video, it seems that your gradient overlay tip is the only way to achieve Photoshop's photo filters feature? - OR is there a simpler way!

Just wondering why you call Vectors or paths "curves" ? Is it a name applied to Affinity versus other software ?

I don't know if this has been mentioned, too many comments to browse through but to copy half the heart 1st draw the heart, then a rectangle large enough to cover the half you don't want, select both shapes and then GEOMETRY - DIVIDE. You will then have 2 halves of the heart and a rectangle with half a heart cut out of it. You probably have a video of that tip by know but if you don't.

The reason the pixel layer works like that is because it is to prevent distortions when you have a photo or texture in it
